I need somebody to look at this, It keeps gertting rejected by the t-shirt company. They say:
QuoteAll visible lines and individual components of the design must have a minimum width of 1.5 mm. Texts must be at least 10 mm high. This absolutely necessary because plot printing is a special kind of process. These requirements are not yet met with the present scaling of the design.
I thought it didn't matter what size the fucking thing was if it was a vector! http://www.poee.co.uk/images/scrid.eps

i looked at it! :D
on the upside, i think it's very cool.
on the downside, i know NOTHING about computer art/graphics and thus unable to solve your vector problems. (sorry syn')
please, talented art/computer people - help syn' realize his lifelong ambition to make scrid shirts!
I don't even know which program opens *.eps files :(
If they are using a silk screen methond of some sort, that might explain it, detail finer than a certain limit will not show up, but them telling you the same thing over and over isn't helping you.
try converting it to another format rather than eps
%%BoundingBox: 0 0 463 648
The problem may be user-coord scale.
PostScript specifies 72 units per inch.
EPS probably shouldn't be treated that way, though, but it might be.
Just use the "-e -c -q" options to get a plain EPS dump and look for the scale command near the top. Adjust it until everything meets the specified criteria.

It seems to me, after googling "Plot Printing", that the problem is purely physical. The machine that applies the flock or flex print can only manage down to a certain limit. Think of it like trying to do a fine line drawing with a crayon. You have to have a minimum size in order for it to reproduce, otherwise it's just a ball of illegible mush.

erm... I used potrace by dumping my .bmps on the icon. I've never used the command line. Without this there will be no Scrid shirts. They say they'll fix it for me, but want to charge £10 per half hour they work on it!

this is a worrying development. :(

If Syn sends you the file can you do this bit for him?

He had the link up top. I'll put the mod in my DA scraps for now:
http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/24578073/
If it still doesn't work, just open the file in whatever text editor and change the magic number (3 dup scale) and update the bounding box (the original times the magic number).
(If you get to "72 dup scale" and it still won't work, you may have to change the image to widen the thinner lines and just submit a PNG.)
Quote from: synaptyxerm... I used potrace by dumping my .bmps on the icon. I've never used the command line.
*sigh*
I started on one (Apple2c), moved to a different one (MS-DOS), got schooled on another (SCO), and had a lot of fun on the best (Linux/Bash).
GUIs are fun too... if all you like to do is watch porn and play MP3s... ;)
Sorry, command line is for geeks with supple wrists. I'm a wanker, therfore my wrists are abused and no good for command lining.
Thanks for the mod. I'll see if they accept it. :)
The good money says they won't. If they do, I bet only part of it gets on to the shirt.
And you don't need good wrists if you know how to support yourself. ;)
we want scrid! we want scrid! we want scrid! we want scrid!
that is all

Nope, still not right. I made a few alterations. Removed shiny bits in eyes and scrid badge, but no dice. I just don't have a fucking clue about vectors.
Sorry Mang. This is a high priority for me as Scrid is one of the best things I've been inspired to design. I just don't do vectors outside of dumping bmps through potrace.

I don't know what this means...but it sounds serious :(
Don't suppose they told you why it wasn't working or how to fix it, did they?
There must be a way!!

Here's what I know about potrace:
It's insane and will gladly use 5000 curveto segments to approximate a straight line while rounding sharp corners and sharpening round corners.
What I suggest is: submit a bitmap if at all possible. If not:
Decrease the dimensions of the original image, zoom in, and using a pencil tool, change a few pixels, run potrace, change a few pixels, run potrace, etc, focusing on two things:
1. Decrease the EPS file size. Fewer segments mean better chance of acceptance.
2. Smoothly round all curves. Make all stright lines straight. Potrace is anal about this. One pixel can mean the difference between 2 segments and 12.
Also keep in mind that a path has many inter-dependant parts. If you have problems in one area, it may be best to look nearby on the same line for something else to fiddle with. A pixel 20 pixels away may have a huge impact.
Don't worry too much about details. T-shirts don't show them well anyway. (Particularly with the methods they're using.) Take oblong shapes and turn them into circles or rectangles. Remove a few of the hands (five hands would be numerologically significant ;) ). Turn the hands into a cubist approximation of a hand (a rectangle with a rectangular thing sticking out of it).
You get the point.
Potrace is black-and-white only, and does a simple threshold quantization (grey 127 and below is black, 128 and above is white), so it's easier to see what potrace is seeing if you decrease color depth to 1 bit.
And it all takes time. (I spent days fudging around with Nurb's Eris and I have all day to do that, so it may take you a week or so to get something that looks good.)
Of course, I'm probably not telling you anything you don't already know. :)
Can I have the source bitmap you started with so I can screw around with it?
SAVE OUR SCRIDS!!!!
I don't want to compromise on the design, Scrid is Scrid! I'll get he bmp up for you later.
I am willing to put money into somebody's paypal account if the image gets accepted, I'm totally lost here. I refuse to give spreadshop money, because they could spin out the work for hours. They won't accept anything less than a vector.
Ta!

Artistic integrity! That's what we like to see around here.
Syn' - is there another t-shirt provider that you could use? Just thinking of alternatives in case the vector can't be tweaked according to their demands.
I'm not gonna use cafe frickin' press, their clothing is really poor quality. There don't seem to be any that don't charge to set up. It can be really expensive. I will continue to look around.
Meanwhile here's the scrid bmp I'd like to work from.

It's 3Mb!

Holy crap, I want that on a Tshirt.

this is the problem - the t-shirt people don't want teh scrid :(
This MUST be overcome!
I now have Scrid on white clothing, it was no problem to upload a png. Need the vector for coloured items.

Dude, I'd so take one off your hands.
Don't panic! I am in the process of setting up a US shop. Dunno why they keep them seperate, but there you go. Site will be up later. It won't have the full compliment, but I'll get Scrid shirts up first.
Cheers!
