Two vast and trunkless legs of stone / Re: What is Kek?

Hi. As a Kekistani who is in exile and fighting on the front lines of the on going World War: Meme, I remembered my time spent reading the Discipline Discordia and the BIP and it occurred to me that in many ways Kek seems rather Erisian.

However, upon coming to your discussion board, as a humble meme farmer, I am disappointed to see very little discussion about The God Kek. (Unless I just failed to understand how to use your search engine.) I am very curious as to what the followers of Eris think about Kek. Yes, I'm leaving the topic rather open and not even asking a question because reasons. Please respond as to your thoughts on the topic as you see fit.

Dear Eris,

Due to some stupid ontological filters my workplace has in effect, I'm able to post to any forum on the board except those that don't exist. That's a pain in the ass. Can you please fire a message off into the void concerning my enthusiasm for that domain name and the possibilities it presents?

Don't worry if that sounds vague...they'll know what I'm getting at!

Looks like we're on our way to being an alternate history!

From John Oliver's first show back:

http://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2017/2/13/14597200/john-oliver-trump-lies-last-week-tonight

Quote"Normally, we like to focus this part of the show on complex, depressing policy issues — something fun like CO2 emissions from hearses or space poverty or the proliferation of special-purpose taxing districts, a topic so boring you didn't even realize we literally already did that exact story last year," Oliver said on Sunday's Last Week Tonight. "And we want to keep doing those kind of things. But unfortunately we can't until we address something even bigger: the concept of reality itself."

As Oliver explained, one of the fundamental concepts of analyzing policy is agreeing on a very basic set of facts to start from. People can disagree on how to react to some of the facts, although the basic facts should remain largely uncontested. But Trump and his team don't meet that threshold — not even agreeing on the basic facts, whether the topic is terrorism or former President Barack Obama's birth certificate.

This can have dangerous consequences, Oliver said: "Real people get hurt when you make policy based on false information. Billions will get spent on a wall that won't work to prevent a crime wave that isn't happening, while refugees sit in dangerous situations to prevent Bowling Green–style massacres that never took place."

The whole Trump wall thing constantly reminds me of the south park episode where all the Mexicans in America said fuck this place and scrambled across the border back into Mexico and the border patrol was confused as fuck and then tried to stop them anyway.

Aside from being hilarious, that episode may have been a bit prophetic.  I am mildly tempted to learn Spanish and try to make it to Mexico before there really IS a wall keeping me in.

I have two friends who've beat that path already.

Already tired of the "my team lost the Superbowl. Maybe I should go march in protest" derpery.

So tired.

This is the first of a short series of videos that invented (discovered?) the genre Yacht Rock:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jMTI8vg7A5U

They also went Beyond Yacht Rock to start a podcast called Beyond Yacht Rock (http://www.feralaudio.com/show/beyond-yacht-rock/) where they invent arbitrary genres of music, do a countdown of songs that exemplify that genre, toss in some funny ass commentary and shit gold!

Right now I'm listening to their "I Can't Believe It's Not Vedder!" countdown. It's Stunning.

"Project Redmap," "Maptitude," and "Ratfucked" are all pretty delicious terms.

They've got the numbers but we've got the analytics.

Something cute about using Saturday's porn searches to figure out who would vote for slut-shamers on Sunday.

Highly recommend finding interviews with David Daley. There could be a lot of inspiration in there.

I haven't been trained to look for the number of likes or upvotes, but I do reflexively look to click like on posts. Of course I also reply with :mittens: on FB (even to people who have NO idea what that means), so I guess it works both ways.

City council tried to fluoridate the water. The woo community marched in the street, held an election, and blocked the measure.

A local capitalist owns a lot and allowed a tent city to operate there. They have accrued fines into 6 figures.

On a related note, we have a "no stopping" ordinance on the sidewalks. Also, there's code against unpermitted structures, which includes putting a tarp over you if you're sleeping on the streets. The old mayor stopped enforcing these ordinances. Camps went up. People in houses raised hell. Camps got swept. This in a VERY liberal city.

This article has a first-person point of view about what we've been talking about:

QuoteStill, what was really bothering me? Where was my sense of awe and hope? The next morning realized: I don't trust these people.

I don't trust most of the Women's March participants to show up again. I don't trust the resolve of their concern. I don't trust that all voted for Hillary Clinton or recognized the unprecedented threat of Donald Trump. I don't trust that they understood this was an election to do everything in our power to keep him out of the White House—too important to throw a vote away on Jill Stein or write in your mother's name on the ballot.

In this case, it seems to be coming from a well-earned sense of jaded cynicism.  Which, I suppose could be considered ironic.

QuoteOn Saturday I attended the march in Los Angeles and can't say I began the day with much enthusiasm, especially when compared to the downright giddiness I witnessed from other marchers. It was like watching a foreign film without subtitles—I understood what was happening and why, but I didn't quite get the tone or the nuance. The times I've taken to the streets or raised my voice about an issue have been out of anger or as a response to gross injustice. The joviality of the march, the "warmth and love and care" was unfamiliar.

One of my friends posted that she saw people hugging and taking selfies with a cop that tear gassed her the night before.

I can see that.  But I decided my best response is to understand why they're upset and try to work with them.  And much of that will be actions over words.  My first instinct was to say "this is why we can't have nice things", but that doesn't help move things forward.

We've got a sort of tepid version of Antifa going in my neighborhood. A few weeks ago, an accomplice started raising hell about some hippy shop in the neighborhood hosting a class on how to make dream-catchers. I rolled my eyes almost out of my head at that.

Then we had a nasty cold snap in Portland, and the same person who I was accusing of having an ineffective set of priorities pretty much single-handedly threw together a warming shelter and kept it running for several days on about three hours of sleep a night. I put in all of three hours helping in that effort.

I think it would be wise for me to be slower to judge...

The screeching about the word pussy on FB currently unfolding is a good example of this.

Yes.  I am told that the march was counterproductive and worse than Pol Pot because the pink hats were a symbol of TERF.

The people doing the bitching are of course stupid and probably won't be available for comment inside of 24 months.

I think that may be some hyperbole.

Some women of color were commenting that they were put off by pink being used to represent pussies. But saying put off is not the same as saying counterproductive and worse than pol pot.

And the people that I heard this from have breathed more than their share of tear-gas, in case there's a tourist question.

I think GW was the last presidential candidate that evangelicals were really excited about. Rapture means we don't have to worry about climate change, but politically, I think they mainly just vote GOP as a reflex because of abortion.

Also, there's the dominionists in the evangelical wing, so anyone who supports Israeli settlement is helping to usher in the second coming.

HOW is the internet capable of being so boring today? I swear, I was able to find more interesting things on the internet when there was less STUFF on it.

It's comforting that you're having the same experience. I was worried it was just my diminished capacity for enjoyment.

Had a doctor appointment last Monday. Dealing with some skin conditions, mental futzing, and a strong family history issue emerged that I wanted to see if there was any kind of early detection available for. The doc said there's no way to know for sure, but there some signs that might be able to out on a blood test. Took the blood test.

A week later I got the results. My iron levels are normal, but evidently I have dangerously high levels of Cramulus.
