Weekends are a Con by the Man. Everyday should be a day free of the eight hour grind... weekends however, compartmentalize the week into Work/Not Work times for the majority of people. This is a False Duality.

For a while (incidentally around when I first arrived here) I managed my work (self-unemployed, if you will) using that calendar, and set a couple of arbitrary no-work and no-paid-work days for myself... The rhythm of it was actually way more natural to me than the 7-day rhythm, but it turned out it was impractical to live on a separate calendar from the rest of the world (duhhh)

Living on both calendars works quite well. I can't do what you did, though, because I'm just a simple school child, y'know.
Basically, you take 1,2,3,4 or 5 days off from the discordian week, depending on how much you want to work.
It's not really that hard.

That because the Discordian calendar doesn't have 7 day weeks there are no weeks. When of course the more obvious answer is, well duh, the weeks are 5 days. And that means there aren't 52 weeks, there are 73. It's just different math, is all.

Um, you add extra weeks. 73 weeks instead of 52.
365 is divisible by 5, you know.
365 / 5 = 73
So there's no need to change the number of hours in the day.

this is actually a pretty good point, and one in which our regular calender sucks goat asses.
the discordian calendar has the nice property that it has an exact number of weeks (73) that make up an entire year. and leap day (aka St Tibb's day) just gets squeezed in if it happens that year, or not, but doesnt count as a week day.
therefore, if you'd use a Discordian day/week/year planner, you could buy one at any moment of the year, and not worry about pages with wasted weeks that are already past, or that you'll have to wait a couple of weeks before your planner starts. just start at today's date, and when you hit the end of the year, go back to page one, the weekdays will always line up.
our current system just means more money for the people that make calendars and planners, it's a conspiracy ;-)
but really, this week-lining-up property of the Discordian calendar is pretty cool in the sense that, if you'd wanted a Discordian week planner for a year, you would only have to design it once, and could print off a new one every year, since it would be the same every year :) [I'd just add a list of leap years on St Tibb's day so you can either cross it out or not]

you know what'd be useful? A Discordian calendar that hiighlighted Saturday / Sundays. And maybe a different color to mark the first day of a gregorian month. It would probably look kind of cool too, because the highlights would make a visual pattern on the page.
Except, in that case, you'd need a new one every year, again.
But yeah it would be useful to also know the regular date and day.

well yes that was the point of the initial exercise.
dunno if it was the
whole purpose, though.
either way, it does not matter, because by judicious thinking for ourselves, we came to the conclusion that there is something nifty about having 5 days in a week and the leapday "outside" of the calendar, because it makes the weeks line up, and all the months have the same length.
now I'd love to check out this seeming elegance for myself by jumping right in and starting to use the discordian calendar for all my planning. unfortunately, this planning often depends heavily on something I call "the rest of the world", that use the Gregorian. So to ensure the experiment doesn't fail right at the start, coming up with some kind of scheme to plan both in Gregorian and GregHillian at the same time, seems necessary. Also it allows a more immediate comparison.

oh btw, you're also sort of right, because this calendar discussion popped up, i ended up explaining the Discordian calendar to some people, and all of them, first thing they asked is "but that sucks! no weekend!? or do you only have one day off out of five now?" (whereas the answer is obvious)
The best answer is "no, I still have two days off every week, meaning I only have three days ON now".
This is the thinking that led me to adopting the calendar back when I did. :)
