IT'S HERE! IT'S HERE! IT'S THE LATEST DISCORDIAN HOLYBOOK,
THE ET CETERA DISCORDIA
(http://i209.photobucket.com/albums/bb163/wompcabal/etceteradiscordiacoverlarge.png)
In 1958 or 1959 (we're not sure which), Eris, the Goddess of Confusion, sent an Emperor Penguin to a bowling alley in California. It appeared before Malaclypse the Younger and Lord Omar Khayyam Ravenhurst and inspired them to create the Discordian Society: a tribe of philosophers, theologians, magicians, scientists, artists, clowns, and similar maniacs.
The Et Cetera Discordia proudly celebrates 50th the anniversary of this prophetic vision. It is a collage of the funny, weird, and often profound writings and art created by numerous modern (and post-modern) Discordians. This book is an invitation to join them in exploring, celebrating, and remixing this strange and exciting century.
A bit of background: Triple Zero and I had this idea back in 2008. The original idea was to create a quick one-shot internet forum which gathered content for quick publication of a new Discordian text. So we threw THE PARTY AT LIMBO PEAK, an intentionally shortlived Internet forum, where people could post anonymously and then later unmask themselves at the end of the party. The project got out of control and we took a million years to finish it. And the finished product is a beautiful 128 page paperback, the latest addition to Grand and Glory Old Discordjia!
Paperback purchase and free ebook version is available RIGHT NOW.

YAY!

Question. Are the contents kopyleft in that I can spread them in public if I wanna?
yes! It is released under an attribution-share alike license (with two exceptions, noted on the copyright page). And I hope you DO have your own adventures with this text - collage it, blow up quotes and staple them to trees, make your own version of it in a 3 ring binder so you can move pieces in and out, ET CETERA
If you're distributing stuff from it, and you're not sure who to credit, just point it to the ET CETERA DISCORDIA
Here's our KOPYLEFT page:
After you read this book, it will be in your head.
When you want to create something, you can use just about anything which is inside your head.
Unfortunately, some people believe that ideas are like objects - they think you can own them, and
through that ownership, control them.
In a legal sense, this is true. Mickey Mouse is featured prominently in my childhood memories, but I
do not have the freedom to draw upon those personal experiences in certain ways. I am not legally
allowed to create a new story about Mickey. If I draw him, I can't sell it or hang it up in a classroom.
Part of my imagination belongs to Disney.
In contrast, we are not guarding the information in this book. Unlike Disney, we accept that we
lose control of an idea as soon as it passes our lips. This book is yours. You may photocopy it to
your heart's content. You may cut out the pages and rearrange them. You may write new stuff
based on what you've read here. You can chuck it in a fire for all we care. We call it KopyLeft: All
Rites Reversed.
Malaclypse the Younger and Omar Khayyam Ravenhurst made their own holy book, called the
Principia Discordia. They filled it with words and images that resonated with them. Old ideas were
juxtaposed in a way which created new meaning. They invited all of us to the party. This is the
Strange Times and everybody gets to write their own Bible for a change. Even spags like you.
It's your head, after all. Do what you want with it.

Hey but um Cram? aren't you completely forgetting to credit Net in the OP? Seeing as he did a shitload of the layouting and graphics designing works? Or does he prefer his part to be anonymous? After all, I did participate in brainstorming and then setting up and running the short-forum, did a little bit of work on selecting and editing some texts, but after that it was 99% Cram and Net producing the AWESOME.
Regardless, I DEFINITELY MUST OWN A COPY!!! [will order very soon]
his wishes to remain an an anonymous shadowy mysterious figure. There's a tip of the hat to him in the Outro, but his identity is obscured.
I'm curious if there are any sections, pieces, illustrations that you guys dig in particular.
this book contains a lot of cut-ups and other forms of juxtapositional art. I'm curious if you guys have any impressions of those beyond "what is this, word salad?" -- hint: it's not traditional prose, but it's sure not word salad either!
I like my clipart pieces that I posted. The think of three of your friends one has nice layout
The book feels more like a cousin of PD then BIP (even with the cliffnotes)
my copy arrived today. digging in for a highly nutritious 16:00hrs breakfast.
[EDIT]-I'LL WORK OUT WHAT ALL THIS MYSPACE MONKEYS BUSINESS SAYS IF IT KILLS ME! :argh!:
WTF! Your copy arrived before mine did?? crazy bastard
I'm also looking for suggestions about how to get the word out, spread the good news that there's a new Discordian book out.
The 50th anniversary of Discordia passed and barely anybody noticed, this is my way of making sure the embers are still hot. Part of this means activating all the sleeper Discordians out there, both the ones that know of Her and the ones that don't know they're popes yet.
If ud host a kindle copy, I can put it on the misses new toy
I have no idea how kindle formatting works
ETA: stored for later reference - some pithy copy
QuoteThe Et Cetera Discordia celebrates the 50th anniversary of Eris' return. It's a collage, a cut-up of essays, images, articles, rants, sermons, and koans, created by the contemporary Discordian Society. And it's freaking fantastic.
Might be a good idea to post this, pd and bip to Project gutenberg
Seems there's a converter to .mobi
Eta:
Nevermind it can manually convert it but its stored at full size and has to convert each page...

You guys do fucking awesome.
Thanks! This looks absolutely -tilt-
I fooled convinced at least one spag at this politics message board I frequent to download and read it. I shall share any feedback/reviews.
Great day over here on Et Cetera Island.
1. I finally got my hard copy. Soon I shall post glorious pix. I am excited as nine bitches on a bitch boat. Holding a REAL BOOK that you edited is COOL AS FUCK. Also the book itself is COOL AS FUCK.
2. Been bouncing mail back and forth with Wes Unruh, one of the authors of the Art of Memetics. At this point I've made two derivative works for the AOM - there's the cliff notes I started over in Literate Chaotic (http://www.principiadiscordia.com/forum/index.php?topic=26428.0), and there's a cut-up of Burroughs and AOM in the
Et Cetera Discordia. So I guess they've decided to relicense it - now it's
Creative Commons-Attribution-Noncommercial instead of
Creative Commons-Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivs. Which I think is extremely cool -- in my opinion derivatives are the most exciting thing about releasing your work into the creative commons.
He also wrote me this really nice note:
QuoteIt's really, really cool to see that text enfolded with the burroughs/gyson text -
seriously, I really dig this! it's very strange to me to realize how the ideas that started when I first read 'the ticket that exploded' back when I was still a teen have come full circle to be cut-up into the origin source.. more and more I've felt that working on The Art of Memetics has been like coaching a small, sentient entity and this is damn near conclusive proof that all the theory in TAOM is functionally alive, at least in my mind

:awesome:
Jesus christ I'm totally gushing right now. This book came out so well. I'm holding the hard copy and flipping through it and I'm so happy with it. It's just what I always wanted to give to this world. A little peek at the Discordian society I always wished existed - and it DOES exist! And I'm helping will it into existence, but I'm only one hand on this big sculpture. It's not a very well known secret, that Eris has returned to this world, but now I own a little piece of that secret, and I'm so bottomlessly glad you awesome cats are in on it too.
Greetz, my dear fellow discordians. I just wanted to thank you for this wonderful piece of book. :retard: I just downloaded it and read the table of contents, and if the contents themselves are as good as this... hell yes! :thumb:
 thanks from all of us, hope you dig it. Where'd you see it posted, anyway?

Manually was a wrong word choice. The kindle can read pdfs but each page seems to load much slower then .mobi
After feasting on the first pages of the digital version I just went back to lulu and placed an order for two.
This will make a great gift to an old friend of mine, and FUCK do I want to own a physical copy of it.
:happy dance:
downloaded
reading
will upload to kindle
had small idea to tack into an as of yet unstarted project
Thanks
:mittens: delivery man just dropped it off... oh the joy!

Man. I've already ripped one book to shreds, cutting out the pictures, an sticking em on things.
I'd advise anyone who was considering purchasing one, to buy three, two for cutting, one for keeping.
Copy machines. They are your friends.
File doesn't download. Is broken.
Cram, I trust none of my stuff - if it's in there - has been made kopyleft?
Cram knows this better than me, but as far as I'm aware it's mostly kopyleft with some exceptions for your stuff and possibly others that made similar requests. I haven't downloaded the book yet so I can't tell you for sure, but afaik Cram is well aware of your copyright preferences.
Okay. And how MUCH of the profits are going to PD? I see that there was a donation mentioned, but no percentages.
I'm just a little curious.
PM sent

Yeah, awesome book. Liam loved the graphics best, and I like the writing best, but it's all good.
My copy arrived over the weekend. It is superlatively awesome.
I'll be buying a hardcopy next week.
Quote from: LuluGood news tripzilch! Your Lulu order ##### has shipped!
We thought you'd like to know that your Lulu order has shipped
on mar, 08 fév 2011 via Courrier.
I was cheap and didn't buy any fancy order tracking options, but seeing as my order apparently has been shipped "mardi, 08 février 2011" via "courrier" (mail) this means THE ET CETERA DISCORDIA IS PROBABLY IN FRANCE!!!!
I expect to get it before the end of the week since they just have to dump it into their "international mail" box, and once it's on my side of the Dutch border, all mail and packages are delivered within one business day (thanks to being a tiny country and having a surprisingly efficient postal system that didn't even get that much worse when they changed from public to private).
Those poor French have no idea of the horror slinking through their mail system.
Lulu links are now borked
ahhh god damn it - thanks for the update.
wait, which lulu links? It still looks like the sale page on lulu is ok -- did some existing links to that page change?
