The thing is, if you are talking to your averag every day joe, even referencing Taoism and Zen is going to get you in trouble.  They're going to start thinking about sage burning weirdos with Asian fetishes.

That is what I loved about the BIP project and why I think it drew so much attention.  We didn't laden it with the "joke wrapped in religion wrapped in joke" stuff and we didn't laden it with mystical terminology.  It was written in language and used terminology that anyone could get.

I never actually read the finished versions, but I recall the drafts.  I remember them not sitting well with me because they seemed to take the ideas posed too seriously.  That has it's time and place of course, and plenty of value contained, but unless the content drastically changed I don't think I'd equate the text to the PD.  For me the joke is the part of it... the part that frees one from the pressure and what makes Discordianism different from any other religion that takes itself seriously.  I kind of feel like without that aspect I'm missing one of the things I value most from the mental exercises posed in the PD.  Plus as previously mentioned, getting someone to read anything is rough, even just a t-shirt.

Also I think your "sage burning" quote would apply less to those I traffic with and more to those I don't.  Being insulated somewhat by weirdos, I almost never encounter "normals" in social circles.  Most people I know are flippy in some way.  Burners, Circus performers, Fetish Artists, Internet Trolls, and other things not common among everyday Cul-de-sac Joe.  I accept that isn't likely the world for most people, but for me, encountering someone who is just a little bit weird is rare from the opposite direction.  As such most of them are sage burning hippies or in the case that they stealth as normals, have some incredibly fucked up weird shit about them that they don't let the rest of the world in on and have no space to throw stones in glass houses.

On a side note, I'm also thinking that I do recall that I do meet grey faced bores on occasion but tend to assimilate them to the dork side over time if they are chill.  Unrelated to the topic at hand, but a thought that popped up... I recall this happening somewhat recently (past 6 months) with a new co-worker.  After hanging around myself for a bit she later confided in me that her husband was starting to think she was going weird because she talked about poop at the table in some connotation of some internet thing I mentioned to her casually.  I cracked up at her story, but for all the wrong reasons and assured that indeed she was indeed edgy and cool, when really the thought made me wonder why the hell she would consider that story worthy.  Regardless I thought it best to encourage her having fun and cutting loose.  Turned out they had me over for dinner a few times and soon enough her husband cut loose a bit too and good times were had.

Kind of a bit off track there, but I think it brings home the point about the joke-serious paradox being crucial for me as part of Discordianism.

That's just it, there aren't that many of them, I think there is a healthy majority who would say, " Uh yeah, I don't think the Second Amendment meant 20 year olds packing automatic death machines". But, there are members of that minority in power, and they have successfully been able to use it as a cudgel against moderates and liberals.

Obama is talking tough now but by the end of the week he'll be walking that shit back.  He won't do jack shit.

Probably not.  For any merits he has and achievements he has made, Obama is still a politician at heart, but then, aren't they all?

One of the funny and fucked up things about politics is that only those that don't want to rule are generally the least bit suited to because they profoundly understand the problems that come with authority, and generally the only people that run for office are of two kinds:

1) Naive and think they can change the world until they get chewed up and spit out by the second type when they get to DC.
2) Power hungry fucks that have no place trying to run anything.

I've said this once or twice before elsewhere... but beheading the royalty was probably the best choice for France.  The ugly part is that things have to get that bad before shots are legitimately fired, and if that's the case, what is worth saving?

From what I'm to understand the seven generation legacy problem (leaders rise to power based on skill pass it to their heirs, but seven generations of hand over later the new leaders have none of the skills the leaders that were great did but instead have a skillset of maintaining power) creates the need for a reboot in a government about every 200 years and merka is a bit overdue.

I remember reading about the cops for hire in NYC during the occupy noise where your rich companies could hire someone to beat, arrest, and charge you and I was thinking to myself... Praetorian Guard much?

The problem is people are still too comfortable.  Part of me wants the whole thing to go to hell, but then another part of me remembers that it's the fundamentalists that have all the guns, not the liberals (exceptions exist, but going for general assessment), which means guess who is writing the new lawbooks?

Win?  Not likely.

If anything I'm still pushing my education over restriction philosophy, but it's not very popular, and is violently opposed by many in power.

One of my favorite moments recently was the accusation that Obama wanting to have executive authority to raise the debt ceiling meant he'd be able to barrow money without restraint, when in actuality it just means he'd be giving permission to pay back the debt. /suicide

I know it is wet
And the sun is not sunny.
But we can have
Lots of good fun that is funny!

Is there anything objectively wrong with being a cog in a machine?

Aside from the fact that there's no such thing as "objectively wrong", then it depends if the machine is good or not. The machine is the cog, just as the cog is the machine. If it's a machine, fuelled by the screams of puppies, whose sole purpose is to turn awesome into rivers of shit then I'd say yes - destroy the cogs, destroy the machine

Coincidentally - this is why I don't believe in objective wrongness - if I did I'd be forced to try and destroy pretty much everybody

A fair answer... but who gets to be the arbiter of acceptable puppy to shit river ratio, and who watches the watchers?  And them?

By the logic you are presenting it seems to lend itself to might makes right and he with the biggest guns wins which is fair enough, but easily swings out of control.

There's nothing wrong with fascism on paper, it's just that it tends to suck in practice given a long enough time line.

While I don't disagree, I think it's important to remember there are times when societal norms make sense, and other times where what is the societal norm is horribly corrupt and inefficient.

The argument winner here is clearly wisdom in practice... but what wisdom should we subscribe to?

While there is no "objective wrong" we can assume that in most cases things like pedophilia and cannibalism are generally bad social practice, presuming we aren't assclowns.  If that's the case, then that means there is a lot of grey area, pretty much most all of it is grey, and that means evil-good is more of a sliding scale that is prone to being horribly inefficient.  While we can create a line in the sand for better or worse, would you not agree that this means that by creating "acceptable levels of evil" we are not engineering the paradigm itself, deciding by gunpoint which machines will live and die?

And if the new line in the sand becomes a machine... who is to end the machine when it crosses the threshold?

To me the checks and balances in the universe question still returns to the determinism/free will thing.  Thoughts?

Sounds like a run of shit luck mate.  Condolences.

Good luck with your project.  If it lifts off let me know, I'll pass it around at my usual RPG haunts.

If there's one thing I've learned this year it is that life could be a hell of a lot worse.

I met a lot of interesting characters in my stay in Amsterdam. I've also seen a lot of people at the Jobcentre (where you have to go to justify your existence for jobseeker's allowance) who are in situations I couldn't even begin to imagine.

I've got my health, my friends, and my family. I'm not in a great place, but in a strange kind of way, I feel a lot better as a person these days than I did at the start of the year. I've got no idea where I'll be by the end of 2013. This might actually be the first time in my life that I don't feel like I've got a plan!

Sometimes that's OK, not having a plan.  Just make it a point to be a little bit better than yesterday and chances you'll be shooting par.  You make a good point about all the things you have to be grateful for and that's a kick ass attitude to walk away from a shitty situation with, which means you've gained in a silver lining sort of way and that's a small victory of sorts.

Cheers!

It's a goddamned religion and the Second Amendment is its Scripture.

The Lord thy God WANTS his children to have Bushmasters, they NEED them.  You never know when the Redcoats are gonna bust down their doors at night and steal their jobs and give them to the Mexicans.

This country is so fucking broken and full of ignorant broken people.

My experience is that there is less of them than I first thought, but the key problem is that a lot of them end up in DC with suits on and voting/filibusterer powers.  It's cool though, demonstrating our leadership is completely inept and can't get anything done helps our global credit rating... right?

It's times like these where I want to become a believer... in the Illuminatti because then some of it would make sense.  The only reason I can possibly see this much wankery being allowed to pass is because of some international conspiracy where the movers decided that it was best to take the US down yet another peg and put a bunch of retards in office and told them to fight about as much inane crap as possible to stall the government into meltdown, because anyone with sense would realize that this strategy is fucktarded.

Sadly...

The main thing that I learned about conspiracy theory is that conspiracy theorists actually believe in a conspiracy because that is more comforting. The truth of the world is that it is chaotic. The truth is, that it is not the Jewish banking conspiracy or the grey aliens or the 12 foot reptiloids from another dimension that are in control. The truth is more frightening, nobody is in control. The world is rudderless.

I've been making it a point only to mention anything about me that seems relevant.

Thus far:

Riddle me this: more or less an announcement to gauge the waters.  Turns out favorable.  Yay.  Thread retired.

I think I mentioned I owned a tea party record when someone mentioned them.  One of the holists...

I also mentioned in a thread about someone else's music I was planning on doing something similar to their project on a new record.  No specifics, dropped it, just relating to the subject while still engaging in it.

There was also a response where the pledge was invoked, and I simply replied it didn't work before.  End of tangent discussion.

My point:  If things continue with the current trend of people not freaking the fuck out that I snuck in through the side door and was permitted to stay for as long as it amuses the admins (mature response at PD?  Blasphemy!) then I doubt you'll see much of the same old same old here.

I don't need to talk about me much.  I have vindication in my life now, so I don't make it such a point to force my bullshit in everyone's face, plus you guys talk about me more than enough as it is.  I'm actually much more successful since I gave up on promoting at all.  Talk about me when appropriate?  Sure, why not, but it's a different paradigm.  Don't buy into it just because I say so though, stick around and see what happens (*rubs palms evilly*).

Either way, words are appreciated and I know your heart is in the right place if not coming off as a little abrasive (understated emote here)...  but I'd expect nothing less from the denizens of PD.com

That said, Holist can proudly bear the torch for as long as he wants to and I won't begrudge him for it in the slightest.  At some point he'll get his vindication and satisfaction, or he won't, whatever.

On that note, I think it's still silly to try to maintain that there is "specific order" here with all the off topic stuff that gets thrown around, but I see the point, the line needs to be drawn somewhere or it turns to a river of shit.  This was proven by the death of 4chan as a content creator.  Currently nothing interesting or funny can survive there because it's drowned under hoards of copypasta and same so even if there was something valuable it would never be discovered... I digress.

Good on you mate, but keep in mind, perception is an important part of all of this.  I could present myself as a golden child here to lick the balls of long time contributors and do nothing offensive and still be forced into a box of outlandish if that was the forgone conclusion (sic).

This was something I noticed in the Holist thread.  Tons of samey same, but I did notice the samey same on the rebuttle from long time PD spags, even when Holist occasionally made a point that wasn't completely fucktarded (it happened at least once I swear).  When that happens you have to understand why this place turns people into trolls.  When you (the proverbial noob jack ass) do score a point, and it gets marked as an error because the game is rigged, you eventually turn to the "burn the world" philosophy and just start trolling, not even intentionally but because it creates a sense of social justice and even pushes one to feel vindicated when they piss everyone off and create a giant shit storm, it's pure schadenfreude bliss and is quite a logical reaction.  There is a maximum level of abuse anyone can take before they turn chaotic stupid and in a way, PD creates these monsters.  I'm sure some of you guys are cognizant of this, but I'm not sure you (the Holist OP) is fully aware, or if you are, then you're just fucking with Holist (and by extent myself) which is fine I suppose, but the point still remains... if you are creating these monster babies, especially if it's done consciously, then you have no one to blame but yourself when the shitflood arrives, so I'm not falling for it this time thanks :)

I'll just be here doin muh thang and actually making some effort to cultivate something nice as ridiculous as that sounds on paper.  Then again this could all be an elaborate troll, you should probably freak out and be paranoid.

Enjoy!

Discordian Recipes / Diet Refining
December 17, 2012, 09:39:14 AM
So I've been on a big health kick since I got my gym membership and I've managed to crank out some abs and actually have some biceps and such, but I'm looking for thoughts on how to improve my overall diet.

My main issue is not having enough time to eat since I'm on the run a lot, or when I'm home it's incredibly late and all food stores are closed... but there is hope!  I am taking a promotion soon that pays me to sit at home (which I plan to keep until I get done with my masters) during which I'll be able to cook for myself more, hence the fread interest.

I'm not a chef or even a talented cook but I can make a couple of things.

My main dish revolves around the following:

Meat: Lemon Pepper Haddock/Salmon/Chicken
Side: Sauteed Spinach (light butter) with diced tomatoes and garlic
Side: Penne Pasta rolled in light butter and seasoned with fresh basil

I probably eat this 5-6 times a week.

I also do a bowl of cereal in the late hours, drink the green machine naked juice and when I'm in an absolute hurry I break down and grab a sausage, egg and cheese wake up wrap from dunkin donuts which is about as close to food as one can get from such a place, plus it's cheap and quick.

After a work out (usually 3-4 times a week but probably more when I have the stay at home gig) I grab an isolean pro shake (works as post work out meal replacement, all organic) with some strawberry bannana flavoring.

Granted I could lose the flavoring on the shake and all the butter in the dish, but I'm trying to eat mostly healthy and not be completely devoid of flavor.  Also worth mentioning I have zero interest in being vegan or vegetarian.

Looking for simple/quick/tastey dishes recommended (links fine) that I can't screw up too much and still have some flavor without being made of lard and diabetus.

For the record I've already sworn off everything evil (soda, junk food, etc.) years ago, sans coffee and currently working to cut smoking off the agenda, but don't quite have the right motivation for that to make it stick yet.

I'm not quite a health pro or anything, and I'm not trying to run a marathon, just have more energy and look better naked fwiw.

Health comments and recipes appreciated.

Probably a google fail.

Golden Dawn also refers to Warhammer 40k and some bullshit that looks like it crawled out of the DaVinci Code that is synonymous with Illuminatti.

For the record, Golden Dawn referred to herein is roughly spouted about here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_Dawn_(Greece)
