Brief idea, to be fleshed out later
I have a google alert set up to ping me every time somebody on the googleweb mentions Discordianism. It doesn't generate a huge amount of buzz.
Wouldn't it be funny if a bunch of us dedicated ourselves to showing up every time somebody has a forum conversation or blog post about Eris?
there's about 1-3 hits per day, most of which point to the same places over and over again. We'd only need to hit those places once.
So what would we do in these comments?
a few different options:
1. just comment like you would normally, using your normal name
2. absurdist pineal woo woo talk
3. make up a fake identity and post as him/her
the point here is NOT to troll people.
the point is to
---create the illusion (read: reality) that the Discordian Society is real, and it's out there, listening.
---reward people for talking about Discordianism.
---confuse / amuse (there should be a word for that) people who were not expecting the Discordian inquisition

very cool idea
also love the 5 replies threshold. gives me something to aim for.
Can we set one up for illumanti too so we can get more targets?
Coyotes says I should do it.
Tentatively in, but I also have other projects that I need to get back to and focus on.
Too damn busy when I'm near my laptop, unfortunately. I will jump in if I have time, later.

alright I think I hit all of them... a lot of these blogs need moderator approval for your comment to appear, so your gratification may be slightly delayed.
the discordian dreaming mix is real chill btw, I'm digging it
I did the first one and the one at the Escapist so far.
I didn't feel like registering right now, but I did the blogspot ones and bragging-rights-to-first-person-to-identify-t. Two to go! I'll try and do those tomorrow.

This does sound like a good idea.

Is "bemuse" close enough?
i do not want to derail this project
but
what if we as discordians showed up where people were discussing Eris in a non-discordian context? astronomy, ancient history, etc
also cool!
furthermore we really should write up some religious brew-ha hah about the planet Eris. I don't know of any cults obsessed with it yet, it'd be nice to get in on the ground floor.
I like. Will participate.
I'm in. I'll hit up the links after dinner.

If we can find an emphemeris with Eris's apparent orbit taken into consideration, we can look for some sort of alignment or entrance into a sign and come up with some sort of prophecy that is supposed to unfold at that point. We can back up the science behind it by back projecting similar conditions and finding something of historical significance around that time to corroborate this effect. LO5 in action.
Finished 5.

OH GOD these guys are awesome :lulz:
Quote from: Gemneye9/23/2010 this is a good day for evolutionary magick! I'll explain why; if it doesn't make any sense to you then thats okay. it might not make sense or work for anyone! lets take the three male archtype dieties in discordianism. you have baphomet, coyote and loki. you have the prime female archtype: eris. now here comes the math:
baphomet: 23 coyote: 23 loki: 23
now take the numbers and numerology them:
2+3=5 2+3=5 2+3=5 5+5+5=15 1+5=6
the number six becomes an evolutionary step in discordianism to the next level (from 5 to 6). thus shows the male energy becoming a catalyst to the feminine evolotion. Thus raising eris to the next level. okay you may night agree or care, but it makes sense to me.
now why is 9/23/2010 important. on a 24 hour clock at 23:23 on the 23 day of the month gives the trinity of 23 adds up to trigger an evolution moment. this month their is a full moon on the 23rd. We all know or atleast understand the power of the full moon and then add the above theory of equations; now add all that together and you can see the potential of power at that moment. heck, the whole day can be dedicated to your own evolution or empowerment with the 23:23 moment being a peak of power.
Thank you for reading this post.

A good quote on a Christian forum.
http://www.christianforums.net/showthread.php?t=45339
QuoteWell SpagLard, I would have to say that to form a view on something one would have to understand it, and reading through the various bits and pieces on the link you provided I must admit to almost complete incomprehension.....
In fact, it all read more like a Monty Python script, but without the laughs, despite a mention of "subversive humour". One thing I did pick up on though was the idea of seeking to prevent the beliefs becoming dogmatic, which bought to mind a zen story on "Finding a Piece of the Truth"
"One day Mara, the Evil One, was travelling through the villages of India with his attendants. he saw a man doing walking meditation whose face was lit up on wonder. The man had just discovered something on the ground in front of him. Mara's attendant asked what that was and Mara replied, "A piece of truth."
"Doesn't this bother you when someone finds a piece of truth, O Evil One?" his attendant asked. "No," Mara replied. "Right after this, they usually make a belief out of it.""
Maybe if all religions could learn the trick of preventing dogmatism - or what perhaps could be called "the letter of the law" - then there may well have been more peace between the various faiths.
And a final word, concerning the small hint that much of this could be likened to "zen". I would just say that traditionally, and historically, those who sought to become zen monks would spend many years in the monastery doing the most menial of tasks and studying the various Scriptures before they got near the "master" and his various enigmatic sayings. It seems that with Discordianism one can start straight away with the enigmatic, thus opening the way to pure human stupidity.
