I just don't understand any kind of absolute egalitarianism philosophy. Whether it's branded as anarcho-capitalism or straight anarchism or sockfucking libertarianism, it always misses the same point.

FWIW, this holist reminds me a little of myself when I first joined here. I wasn't, er, Pinealist, per se. Pretty damn close, though.

which led me to re-examining my older posts, even (embarassingly) in Literate Chaotic (pages 20-23 make me cringe now).

Of course, I was 17-18 at the time, and holist says he's 43. While some of his behavior, to me, indicates a troll, I've many times ended up in the same situation here, making the same choices, with no troll intended. And it's rather easy to fall into a reactionary state and become defensive, particularly when defending an unpopular idea. So I'll reserve my judgement for something more conclusive.

holist: my experience in talking about the absurd/paranormal/alternative/etc... in the particular region of the interweb is that you're best off if you can discuss the topic at hand in plain, direct language that says what it means and means what it says. If you claim something that isn't generally accepted, be prepared to offer evidence more than eye witness and anecdotes, or prepare to be laughed at.

Is that the one written by Steven Mottat? If so, I found series 1 hard to get into. It was a while ago that I watched it, but I recall not being able to really identify with anyone, which is odd because I especially enjoy all of Moffat's Doctor Who episodes.

Come to think of it, the new Sherlock is a lot like the Doctor, IMO... just a lot more bitter.

Tangent: I've had apocalypse dreams for as long as I can remember.

My money is on Zombies, either through some drug/pathogen- whether accidentally or intentionally spread- or a societal breakdown that amounts to the same. Although, I did have a rather interesting variant of the Apocalypse dream once. Toilet paper was the hot commodity/survival item, and Reptile angels descended from the clouds to devour the True Believers. I could be okay with that one.

Colbert SuperPAC sent this out yesterday:

Quote

Dear Super PAC Super Members,

Hi there. I'm Jon. It looks like I'm running this thing now. All the details are in the press release below. Quick question: does anybody know where the key to the Super PAC bathroom is?

Thanks,

Jon Stewart

Americans For A Better Tomorrow, Tomorrow

FOR REALLY IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Under New Management!

BASIC CABLE, USA – Americans For A Better Tomorrow, Tomorrow, an FEC registered Super PAC, today announced the addition of Jon Stewart to its executive board (along with the subtraction of Stephen Colbert).

With this change the group, which had been known colloquially as Colbert Super PAC, can now be referred to as The Definitely Not Coordinating With Stephen Colbert Super PAC. They have already begun updating all of their letterhead with sharpie.

"I am excited to take the reins of this completely independent organization, and begin to air ads in South Carolina," said New President and Noncommunication Director Jon Stewart. "But I want to be clear: Stephen and I have in no way have worked out a series of morse-code blinks to convey information with each other on our respective shows."

Colbert is currently exploring a run for President of the United States of South Carolina. Because of this, he cannot be associated with any Super PACs, although he has asked Americans For A Better Tomorrow, Tomorrow to forward any periodicals of an "adult nature." *

Americans A Better Tomorrow, Tomorrow is an independent, expenditure-only committee founded by Stephen Colbert in the wake of the Supreme Court's Citizens United ruling, then handed down to Jon Stewart like a pair of old dungarees.

I think This should go here. Hasn't there been a lot of letterhead requests lately?

On January 5th, 2012, Colbert flashed a distinct 23 with hand gestures:

http://www.colbertnation.com/the-colbert-report-videos/405273/january-05-2012/indecision-2012---fun-rick-santorum

(skip to 1:40 for the gesture)

Aside from the obvious 23, displayed on the FIFTH of the month, the particular hand signs are the peace sign with his (crossed) left hand ("V", or 5), and a Shocker sign with his right hand.

QuoteAren't the Hodge and Podge sides the same, except for the apple and pentagon? I'm fairly sure that the first several Sacred Chaos I've seen are the same color/shade on both sides, even though a lot of the depictions are more like the Tao.
Yes, most depictions of the Chao have both sides shaded in the same way, the thin part of the teardrop-shape darker than the round part.

Of course, just because they're shaded the same, and there's two of them aligned all point-symmetrically, doesn't mean they're the same side. After all, one side got an apple, the other a pentagon. But even without those symbols, they'd be two separate shapes in one symbol, that just happen to be isometrically congruent.

Just because they're 'separated' doesn't change that they are only part of the same symbol. Without Apple and Pentagon (or whatever symbols you substitute), what I take away from this symbol is that What we call Order and Chaos are indistinguishable, making their division meaningless. Adding the additional symbols only gives you a point of reference, a legend for the map, if you will.

No, really? If you just wanted to make an argument, next time don't phrase it as a question, so I'll know not to bother replying.
Sorry if I offended you. Just offering my perspective.

They clearly say that the Apple represents the Podge, and the Pentagon represents the Hodge.  And instead of swapping bits of either for the other side, the two sides are represented in balance.  Remember, Discordia isn't Taoism -- they just stole a lot of the symbology.

Going further, if you didn't have the symbols clearly indicating which side is which, you'd never know what was being represented; all you'd have would be dichotomy.  So we also are able to show how we can only distinguish between order and disorder by LABELLING them as such; without the labels, we would only have swirling Chaos.

I didn't say discordia was taoism. My point was basically what you said: the 'sides' of the Chao have no inherent difference, only a label that arbitrarily differentiates between them.

[TL;DR: LABELS]

For my bit, I've always preferred "organic/abstract" as the false dichotomy in the chao.

I just realized that I never updated my prior post, in case anyone is interested.

I put up Volume Aleph, Dingus, and Calvinball, all over campus.  By the very next day more then half of the flyers had been taken down =(.  Each day since, I notice even more missing.  The upside is I know people are noticing them, I've heard random conversations about some of them, and I know for sure that every single one was noticed at least by the person(s) taking them down.

The first ones to come down were, of course, the "Miscarriage is manslaughter" and "Christian Dating" ones, as I put them on the bulletin normally used by the Campus Crusade for Christ, which is the college evangelist nutjob society that are the pushiest and most self-righteous in-your-face group we have.  In fact, we had an event last year with a local senator come to campus, and since one of her things was anti gay marriage, the local LGBT (or is it LBGT?  I dunno, it's the gays) group staged a peaceful protest out front, and tons of other student not even a part of the club joined in to help make the senator feel "welcome".  As I think being against gay marriage is retarded, I too joined in, but the church nutjobs did a thing of their own in support of the senator and had their anti-protest protest stand in front of us being lame.  Anyway I got off topic.

There's still one more volume I haven't done, but since the bulletin boards on campus get cleared at the end of the month, I'm going to wait until the first before I put them up.  Also I'm going to buy a fuckton of googley eyes because those pics I saw are hilarious!

Anyway, thanks for the lulz folks!  Everything I heard from students about your posters was positive!  Except for the Evangelists of course, but insults from them can be taken as a compliment.

For college campuses, there's an easy way to help make your shit look "official".

Just find an already posted flier with a clean stamp of approval (I assume it's quite standard to have to validate fliers for posting...) Scan that and shop the expiration date. rotate to random orientations and print over existing fliers.

I had trouble keeping fliers up at my community college- that small detail was pretty good at extending the life of some.

X-Posted from Facebook, in response to complaints about difficulty studying Kant in Political Studies.

QuoteOh, dear. If you can't understand it are you likely Deleuze Marx? If you Kant quite do it, don't Strauss out. You've probably got too much on your Plato. Find a Neumann to study the work of. Or Locke all your study materials in a cupboard and take a break, if the work is too much of a Paine. Too much Kantian reading in one sitting should be ill-Hegel. Dewey want these terrible puns to stop? ROFL. (That's Rawls on floor laughing.)

"it was the early late 80's, and I had just delivered a smashing lecture on the influence of German existentialism in Rock and Roll music, entitled, 'You, Kant, always get what you want."

What about waking up to find PD came out of your computer, and is sitting on a stool next to your bed, watching you sleep?

I think that's a fuck of a lot creepier.
