heyyy so I just received my new computar, it's pretty sweet[1] and it's installing Windows right now (which they could have done at the fucking factory and instead deliver it to me in a hibernation-mode state so I'd switch it on and 5 sec later I'd have a fully booted thing running) but ANYWAY
Now it wants to know it's name!
My last netbook was called "anice hedgehog" (but in Dutch) based on the licorice candy I was eating on the road to Denmark when I was installing the thing.
When I reinstalled to Linux I had to pick a name again and I chose the very unoriginal "ritz-netbook" (ritz was my username).
In the past I have named both a computer and a harddisk NYARLATHOTEP and they both broke fairly quickly, sometimes under mysterious circumstances, so I won't do that again.
I'm thinking of "SPAGBOX" maybe.
I want as many suggestions as possible! (and quickly because I kinda wanna continue installing)
[1] except for the screen which the LED backlight bleeds a bit on the left side so it's a bit brighter there which is in fact fucking ugly but I guess I'll have to live with it or something
"Bitches Don't Know About My Backspace"
"The Open Space Bar"
"The Printer Spool Experiment"
"RAM A LAMA DING DONG!"
Maurice.
Boobs.
That's usually my first inclination for a name.

Hm I also like the last suggestion
and RWHN it kind of needs to be one word, though.
"OHDEARGODWHATISTHATTHINGGETITOFFGETITOFF"
maybe DOESNOTCOMPUTE
Colossus
(Look up the old movie)
Rrriiight! The computer Colossus, that's old! Don't think I've ever seen it, but I must have heard about it somewhere.
It's kinda ironic to name a 12,1" netbook ... well unless of course you count that the previous one was a 10,1"-er so relatively this one is a BIG FAT COLOSSUS ;-)

This is the sort of suggestions I need!
I believe some wireless network in the street here is already named SKYNET
I like Spiggles and Derp-Blue ... also kind of like Ultraturd buuuuut you never know where the network name of a computer is going to show up, next time I'm giving a presentation somewhere and there's this helpful balloon popup that says "Buttpipe Organ is now connected" on the beamer.
Maybe a Discordian weekday.

SETTING ORANGE
PRICKLE-PRICKLE
I also should just pick something and continue setting up this baby :)
I've always liked Setting Orange.
Me too. I think I'll use that.
It's like a cross between two chemical brothers tracks "Setting Sun" and "Orange Wedge".

FOR SCIENCE!
Alternatively, Nylarathotep.
I always name mine after Greek, Mesopotamian, and Egyptian gods and goddesses.
My last computer was Tiamat, this one is Ra, the one before was Inanna...

Payne's last computer was called Ghetto Shrine. All of my computers that had names are called Florence, this one is Florence II. Actually my Mum named Florence the original, after the city. I thought it had something to do with the Magic Roundabout. I'm kinda unoriginal like that.
Now posting from Setting-Orange !!

Niiice :D AIRPORT SECURITY is also a good one. Especially if I want to make sure that I don't accidentally set foot in your country, ever again!
Showermonitor is also really good

Yeah.. except ALL the geeks I know from either computer sciences college or odd coding jobs, did that. Failing that, LotR/Silmarillion characters (the more obscure the better).
Can't do. Otherwise I might have even gone with Colossus.

404ERROR
NETBOOK NOT FOUND
I might consider renaming it to some out-of-place computer message, just for the confusion of it. Would be "404 Not Found" though, for exactness.
Or name the device "LOCALHOST" or "SYSTEM" and you can connect to any network and nobody will suspect a thing!!
I have no idea what my computer is called anymore. Yummy Finger, maybe, or Pickle Meat.

I love you so hard. The thing is: I sorta understand where your head was at when you came up with those.
Skoek!
Which is pronounced like skidding tires when the breaks are slammed.
Once upon a time, I was obsessed with handles and usernames that were more like visual art
I had an AIM screen name that was something like "IlllIlllIIIlllIl". I thought it was cool because how do you pronounce that? It looked kind of like a barcode, not a noun.
I never figured you for a Prince fan. ;)

OMG SO THAT WAS YOU
BTW is it weird that when I just shut off my old netbook to go and play with my new I felt kind of sad? I mean I took the thing with me nearly everywhere for the past three years until recently when bits started coming off and I couldnt really do that anymore, it contains so much of my life and ... on the other hand maybe it's because so many things also happened during that time period and it sort of mostly aligns with the time I spent with Kirschtorte. In fact she alerted me to the special offer when I needed a new computer after the fire. Maybe that's it, cause I never really felt such when getting a new mobile phone, though they are pretty similar in the sense that you carry them around everywhere and contain a lot of personal info. Though I did like that old netbook way more than I did any of my phones :)
Name it "Libido"!

That was my exact reaction, except then I remembered that IlllIlllIlll! was a user on my old BBS.
I'm fairly sure I had someone like that on my ICQ or MSN contact list. Given that Cram probably only used AIM it was probably not him. (I only started using AIM when I got to PD cause most Americans did. I always used an IM program that would support all protocols, first Trillian later Pidgin)
