Have you considered the compromise position, of a boot stamping on half of humanity's faces, for forever?

Also known as the "status quo", I believe.

Ho ho ho!  It can and will get a lot worse than this.  If Trump is ousted, we might get 8 years before the authoritarians run the show entirely.

If he is reelected, this is as good as it will ever get.

My understanding of history is that more or less is status quo, for decaying empires.

Only this time, we're gonna do it BIGGER and DUMBER than any of those pre-nuclear loser empires.

Just felt like saying it.

So I have basically been out-of-my-mind obsessed with the Pathologic series by Ice-Pick Lodge. I picked up the original game on Steam for like $1.29, about a month before HBomerguy's video came out.

Imagine my feelings when I got SUPER hooked on the much-improved sequel, Pathologic 2, in the glorious year 2020. :lulz:

The games are very Russian, and center around twelve disastrous days in a village in the remote Steppe (easily understood as Russian though not explicitly stated, and the time period is likewise vague). There are three healers, a Bachelor of Medicine, a Haruspex, and a strange faith-healer girl, who all arrive on the first day in one way or another. Things are tense from the word go, as two prominent members of the community have died grisly, mysterious deaths. By Day 2, the disease is spreading.

In Pathologic 1, you could pick any of the three healers and experience the twelve days from their perspective. In Pathologic 2, they only were able to complete the Haruspex's campaign, but it's incredibly improved as a game overall.

Loss, failure, the relentless and cruel march of time, senseless and unavoidable death, avoidable deaths that are your fault, and the inability of your mortal body to keep up with the demands of the crisis (hunger, exhaustion, and infection will likely catch you before anyone else does). Rampant death and misery, and eventually a suggestion that perhaps you never had any real choices at all, despite all you've done, good or bad. Fun!

So yeah these games rule, 10/10 on the videosgame scale.

And it's on sale for less than $15 right now. https://store.steampowered.com/app/505230/Pathologic_2/

To convey why this is worth your time, please enjoy these screenshots of a Twitter bot that responds to people with random snippets of game dialogue.

The dog whistling has ended. Theyíre just bringing out bugles now. This isnít one of those slightly exaggerated things, this is something where someone did real research to send a real specific message. And that message is not possible to misinterpret.

They are coming for all of you fuckers too. I fucking said so. And here it is, proof Iím right.

Did you see this shit?????

https://www.mediamatters.org/facebook/facebook-let-trump-campaign-run-ads-inverted-red-triangle-infamous-nazi-symbol

Not only did the Trump campaign buy campaign ads featuring a nazi symbol... The campaign bought 88 of those ads.

Eighty. Eight.

This is Stephen Miller being cute again.

More or less my exact thought. Hate group "experts" were contorting themselves into pretzels over whether or not the red triangle thing was a "real" fascist dogwhistle or whatever. The fact that these turds honestly just get a big kick out of sharing their little not-secret codes just completely escapes them.

Like, years ago we were tickled pink that Colbert held up a yellow apple and said "Ewige Blumenkraft!" on-air. It didn't mean anything material, it was just funny.

Apple Talk / Re: Professor Cramulus: 1980-something - 2010, RIP
« on: June 05, 2020, 05:11:40 am »
How can I opt out from being sockpuppeted for insidious means after my demise?

We are all formed of dead flesh, and are but the sockpuppets of our baser natures.

And if, like Cram, we are recalled from some deeper death, to wander the Earth as an unliving proxy, we should not regret it overmuch; for, perhaps it is better to be remembered falsely, than to be truly forgotten.

Sorry, no opt-outs.

The thing that was once Cramulus is controlled by Cainad, for purposes perhaps best left unspoken.

They'll only talk to Cramulus, you see. It doesn't actually have to be him, you see, he just... needs to be there for the negotiations, if you get me. It's all very red-tape.

And I've kept things going for 10 damn years (with no help from any of you ingrates), I don't wanna hear any lip.

Snowpiercer: An attempt to reverse global warming causes the Earth to become unsurvivably cold, and a group of survivors are now riding around on a train that employs some kind of fancy reactor and assorted self-sustaining systems to keep them alive.

The premise was stupid.  Like, why didn't they just park the train somewhere?  In fact, why did the movie need a train at all?  The story is based on the standard dystopian formula of a downtrodden lower class (who live in the tail of the train) revolting against the upper-class (who live in luxury closer to the engine).  They could have moved the whole thing into an underground base without changing any plot points.

The production quality was decent, and there were a couple of good action sequences, but the major conflict could have been avoided with some birth control and a thermometer.

In the case of Snow Piercer, we do not question the system.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I haven't watched or read it because potato, but as I understand it the gist of Snowpiercer from watching like one trailer and a plot synopsis is that they could do everything much better and more sensibly, and it would literally be better for all involved. But they don't, because fuck you poors.

Hate it when sci-fi has nothing to say about real life.

LAPD receives calls from the public, limited to 2 minutes each

Here is a very spicy call.

Roasting assholes in the public comments is a fine art and I recommend it to everyone.

Now we all know what it's like to live through a time skip between seasons. 2019 and 2021 will be five years apart.

Oh my god have you all STILL not shut the fuck up???

granted I talk to like half of ye on Facebutt BUT STILL

The fact that my hand reflexively went to "Preview" before "Post" proves that forums were always, and continue to be, a superior medium for communicating to any other form of posting.

Except that nobody uses them.   :lulz:

That is a point against them, yes.

Or a point in their favor, depending on how you feel about making Posting available to the masses.

2020 is already fucked

just opening a news website spikes my blood pressure

Government is broken

climate is broken

Humanity is broken

the insane posse is classified as a gang

I'm almost 40

fuck it... there's only one option left:

To become a fan of the Insane Clown Posse

I think that's what this world needs right now -- people in their 30s and 40s putting on bad clown makeup and spraying faygo everywhere

Honestly, it doesn't sound like a bad time.

We were just talking about it in #discord.. somebody posted some random ICP video and I was like "you know ... I don't actually hate this"

maybe we just hated them because it was fashionable, and also because of vanilla ice

And like, they're not even popular. There's no reason to get into them now. None.

But if you don't know how to relate to 2020, if you feel like everything is hopeless and frustrating -- this thread is for us

Fuck's sake 2020 was already this bad in JANUARY

Everything keeps happening more and more, faster and faster.

after quarantine, do you want to go jiming?

Hereís the winner. Itís fucking disappointing. I was hoping for mind altering levels of incoherence, with just enough grammar and sensible language to make it recognizable as an offer instead of anything else. Like youíre being offered a hot new drug but by hearing the name alone your senses are already warping away into another plane of existence.

But instead itís the Professor, and he has jiming. Goddamnit.

Iím going to blame the coronavirus. I cannot accept that this is what we have for incomprehensible offers. Itís just that the plague killed them all.

Sounds like someone didn't understand what PD.com was offering when they signed up.

Explanation of how normal people become Nazi shitbags.

Innuendo Studios and Alt-Right Playbook are pure Internet gold. They really dissect the guts of fashy shit and hold it up with helpful diagrams. It's the kind of thing I find very useful in assessing who's worth talking back from the edge (upset, frustrated people plugged into bad information) and who gets the stick.
