Very cool, thanks.
Maybe we should try to dedicate this thread to new/special music instead of just what everyone is listening to?
Broadening horizons.
I only listen to new special music, so it makes no difference to me. I dig the idea.
Just so it doesn't turn into "I'm listening to the washing machine." Seriously, somebody posted that in a thread like this once. And the same person would comment on the music posts "Oh, I used to listen to them in college" or some such shit, like "IMMA GROWNUP NOW I DON'T DO ANYTHING PLEASURABLE YUO NEED TO GROW UP TOO".
Well yeah but if I we tried to make and enforce rules against stuff like that we'd be depriving ourselves of valuable opportunities to mock idiots.

Definitely, but apparently saying that some of those songs that were in the top ten were not even the best on their respective albums makes me some sort of uber-hipster. :lulz:

Awesome e-mail of the day, Devin Townsend touring near here in December.
If you asked "Who's Devin?" then let me just tell you this: If you have never seen a bald Canadian man make a hand puppet called Ziltoid the Omniscient and use the vengaboys as a warm up track (Sung by said puppet) then you just aren't really living. Oh, and the puppet occasionally shouts "Penis".
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=auD09o2Dais
(Link to the full album, you'll be able to make an informed decision after about a minute or so.)
If you don't dig that then just google "Devin Townsend" and your favourite genre. He's quite probably done an album in that style. Or get Ocean Machine. You don't love that album you need medical attention
Seriously the difference between the above and this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Ok64JX7KP4&feature=related
Tickets. Fucking. Booked. And Fear Factory for support. Fun times.
Devin Townsend is the Mad Scientist of metal. He's one of those rare artists who is highly prolific but who's output is still of very high quality. Dude can acheive a breadth and depth of sound that few others can. Seriously, HIS name should be synonymous with "wall of sound" and not that ass-munch who produced that Beatles record.
Also this song should be experienced, Deadhead from the Accelerated Evolution album:

Also, past two inspiration for my current screen name and avatar.
Critics described both Accident of Birth and Chemical Wedding the best Iron Maiden albums they've heard since Fear of the Dark (Bruce Dickinson's last album with Iron Maiden before Brave New World). Now that either speaks very highly of Bruce or very lowly of Maiden.
I like to think the former, since I'm just as big a fan of Bruce's solo stuff as Maiden. Yes, I even liked Skunkworks. It was ballsy and had some catchy tune. More than I can say for Virtual XI. Bruce can be hokey at times, but Roy Z more than makes up for that.
Partial musical and lyrical inspiration for a song on the upcoming Anarchangel album.

Meh. Bruce. The other Bruce that is.
The Bruce Dickinson. The one who isn't Christopher Walken.
Truth be told, I think I'm a bigger Bruce Dickinson fan than a Maiden fan. The mind boggles, but even when he's losing the plot he shits gold.
I think his solo stuff is pretty good, and in my opinion was probably outshining the Maiden output without him. Bruce has a pretty versatile voice which definitely suited some of the "poppier" stuff he did, particularly the first solo album. I loved his cover of All The Young Dudes.

Mind you- Blaze is awesome totally fucking awesome, too.
Just not with Maiden.
I dig Wolfsbane. I dig Blaze. I dig Blaze a lot actually. Tenth Dimension is one of my favorite albums.
But X Factor sucked. Virtual XI sucked. What happened Blaze? Steve?
Oh you got Bruce back due to Blaze's allergies. Never mind. Now you can both make better music separately.
Iron Maiden is to be fronted by Bruce Dickinson and no one else.
Iron Maiden's proper line up is a hybrid of Seventh Son of A Seventh Son and No Prayer For The Dying. Only because Janick EARNED his place and took a lot of flak for not being Adrian. I love this line up. It should never change. Ever.
And let's face it. Accident of Birth and Chemical Wedding will both be heavier than ANYTHING that Maiden puts out.
Not disrespecting the godhood of Maiden.
Just saying, there's two albums out there that are really great.
And Tyranny of Souls was not bad either, but Bruce and Roy need to top that to reach Chemical Wedding status.
Incidentally, Chemical Wedding was the album that convinced me that Drop-D was acceptable, so long as you knew what you were doing.

Drop D is guitar jargon. It basically means a tuning where you can play heavy chords quickly with little skill (You can play drop D with all of your other fingers amputated). The Beautiful People by Marilyn Manson is a prime example of this, and why I used to hate Drop D.
(Practically all of Chemical Wedding, one of my favs albums, is in Drop D. The lowest note you hear is D, where normally it would be E).:

I like a lot of his subject matter. He just all too often falls into cliched rhymes and suchlike. It annoys the fuck out of me from time to time.
Fair point. But at least hes never once used the words swagger and/or jagger.
And while the subject matter is good its difficult to write a song about such things without sounding a little silly.

might I kindly suggest that if you're going to post a youtube link ITT people post at least some context to go with it? I don't mean Waffe's post, but on the previous pages there were a few posts that were just a youtube link and nothing else ... sharing is cool but nobody is going to click a naked youtube link with no context at all--or are they? I wouldn't, but maybe I'm weird (And not because I don't trust the link but simply for having no idea whether it'll be worth my time).
Just a small suggestion, though if you're really into the minimalist solipsist idea of simply posting "what you're listening to", regardless of other people clicking, that's cool too, feel free to ignore this post then (I'm just a pretend voice in your head anyway).
ANYWAY BACK ON TOPIC
What I was listening to: http://soundcloud.com/djmisha-2/techdrug-vol-1-by-misha
Is a mixtape someone gave me after discussing, well, mixing of electronic music. The genre is "Tech House", which may or may not mean anything to you--didn't to me but it's a lot like the that chill-out "deep house", except a tiny littlebit harder/faster/more upbeat or something. It's the kind you music you expect to hear, that is required (if you're doin it right), coming out of relatively tiny but high quality and strategically placed out-door speakers at some docks/beach or rooftop lounge bar, in the sun, with a very cold bright wheat beer, and you're chilling the fuck out. Or some of that ice water from a decanter they put a few mint leaves in.

There's a game show where Bruce Dickinson sings a song for money based off of a wheel? 8)
Also, he looks more ridiculous in that get up and with that hairdo than he ever has. And that's saying something since the man has probably some of the worst fashion sense on the planet. I love it!
We need that game show here, and I nominate Geoff Tate given he was just kicked out of Queensryche.

Seriously.
And, seriously?
:wikipedia:
Well then.
I predict a huge fight between Tate and thre 'rÿche. Mostly through Metal Hammer.
In my opinion, it's just as well. The last time I saw Geoff Tate live he sang utterly, horribly bad.
Tate has already publicly stated there will be a lawsuit over the name. As far as he is concerned HE is Queensryche. Which, since DeGarmo left, is probably more or less true. They've been a shell of themselves since the early Nineties anyway.

Didn't DeGarmo form the band? Who owns the trademark? I imagine that this is probably an easily solved legal conundrum.
It seems to me though as if Steve Harris left Maiden, then they gave Bruce the boot and Bruce wanted to call his solo project Iron Maiden, to make an analogy.
Or this will end up like it has with other bands. Like currently there are TWO L.A. Guns. The one with Tracii Guns and the onw with Phil Lewis. For a time I think there were two Ratts. One with Pearcy and one with whoever the fuck the other guys are. So maybe we end up seeing Queensryche, and Geoff Tate's Queensryche.
The problem is, as distinct a vocalist as Tate is, the Ryche were also identifiable by their guitar sound, so both bands are going to end up sounding wrong.

True.
Also, don't forget Saxon. They deserve honorable mention in any context anyway.

And historically accurate lyrics to boot.
This is the final war along the Lonian Sea, the Battle of Actium
Mark Antony's forces to engage Octavian's legions at sea
Breaking the alliance of the Second Triumvirate
Cleopatra and Antony to defy
Caesarion named King of Kings
A lethal threat to Octavian
Two Hundred Thirty warships at sea
Headed by the great Mark Antony
Devastating loss forces retreat
Agrippa's forces led by experience at sea
Roma shines once again, Octavian's forces powerful and unmatched
Two hundred ships lost
Five Thousand lives lost
Broken line, broken will
There's no place for glory to heal
Raised in blood, raised in fear
There's no place for honor to heal
There's no place for glory, there's no place for honor...
Cleopatra
Bring this war to foreign land, Alexandria
The final encounter between two of Rome's greatest leaders comes to an end
Two hundred thirty warships at sea
Headed by the great Mark Antony
Devastating loss forces retreat
Agrippa's forces led by experience at sea
Roma shines once again, Octavian's forces powerful and unmatched

Lyrics, since you won't understand them anyway:
Two thousand fattened years like maniacs
Have despoiled our common grave
Now what necrophagous Second Coming backs
From the cradle to enslave?
Sickle constellations
Stud the belts that welt the sky
Whilst the bitter winter moon
Prowls the clouds, dead-eyed
Like shifting parent flesh
Under silk matricide...
Watchful as she was upon Eden
Where every rose arbour and orchard she swept
Hid the hissing of a serpent Libido
In an ancient tryst with catastrophe
Soon the be kept
Hear that hissing now on the breeze
As through the plundered groves of the carnal garden
A fresh horror blows but ten billion souls
Are blind to see the rotting wood for the trees
This is the theme to a better Armageddon
Nightchords rake the heavens
PAN DAEMON AEAON
And what use are prayers to that god?
As devils bay consensus for the space to piss
On your smouldering faith
And the mouldering face
Of this world long a paradise lost
This is the end of everything
Hear the growing chora that a new dawn shall bring
Danse macabre 'neath the tilt of the zodiac
Now brighter stars shall reflect on our fate
What sick nativities will be freed when those lights burn black?
The darkside of the mirror always threw our malice back...
I see the serpentine in your eyes
The nature of the beast as revelations arrive
Our screams shall trail to Angels
For those damned in flames repay
All sinners lose their lot on Judgement Day
We should have cut our losses as at Calvary
But our hearts like heavy crosses held the vain belief
Salvation, like a promised nation
Gleamed a claim away...
This is the end of everything you have ever known
Buried like vanquished reason
Death is season
Driven like the drifting snow
Peace, a fragile lover, left us fantasising war
On our knees or another fucker's shore
Heiling new flesh
Read, then roared
To a crooked cross and a Holy Cause
What else be whipped to frenzy for?
This is the end of everything
Rear the tragedies
That the Seraphim shall sing
Old adversaries
Next to Eve
Now they're clawing back
I smell their cumming
As through webbed panes of meat
Led by hoary Death
They never left
Dreaming sodomies
To impress on human failure
When we've bled upon our knees
This is the End of Everything
Tablatures of gravel law
Shall see Gehennah paved
When empires fall
And nightmares crawl
From the cradle to enslave....
This is the End of Everything
Correction to his name. It's apparently not Daniel Davies, but rather Daniel Lloyd Davey. Close. Still a Welsh name. I mean who has two Ls in their language other than Spanish speakers? I know we do too, but our double Ls aren't oddly placed.
Hey guys, can I get some of your help? Especially from the UK spags, I suppose, I'd really like to figure out what the correct lyrics are to this song:
Younger Brother - Shine (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFfz48rQPU8)
It's one of the few worthwhile songs from their latest album, but it is a quite damn fucking smack-in-the-face beautiful one (IMO). And in case anyone wonders, it's hardly electronic at all, definitely none of the crazy pounding psychedelic techno antics from their first album, instead something with guitars and live drums. Which is kinda odd because both Simon Posford and Benji Vaughan (who make up YB) change stage names as easy as they change pants, so why didn't they do so for something that breaks so much with the style of the older YB music? [the answer, unfortunately, seems to be money. of course they'll sell more to the diehard fans under the YB name... oh well] or as one reviewer said it: "If you want to eat a pizza, let's say you order a pizza and when the order comes you see a strawberry cake.. well yes, all are good and tasty but you wanted to eat a pizza not some cake"
ANYWAY, the lyrics are kind of hard to dig up. Meaning that looking for choice phrases of the song text gives about 4-5 results, with two slightly different interpretations. It's just a few words that don't quite make sense. The vocalist (former Leftfield vocalist Ruu Campbell) is from the UK so maybe people that live there can recognize what syllables may have gotten mangled or swallowed into whatever it is you hear.
be there when I need a shoulder
when I need a ??/heart/hall/whole online lyrics I've found say either "hall" or "heart". But it doesn't sound like "heart", and "hall" does not make any sense. It doesn't quite sound much like my own guess "whole" plus that doesn't entirely make sense either
when I need to feel the beat
beat of my heart
let the road give me
.??. don't know it's the way I could swear he says "puns", but I have no idea, really
said I know it's the way
don't run, ??/good/cool it sounds like "cool", but a word like that just doesn't seem to fit with the mood of the song at all
don't worry too much
there'll be another day
you see some things still remaining
a lot of changing
don't dare stop changing
sometimes you shine
sometimes you fall
sometimes you know
sometimes you need
someone to hold
something that's real
never alone
until you can feel
the life in your soul
be there when I need a stranger
when I need the beating of my heart
beating of danger
take you the way you want to go
I don't want to show you
you can find your own way
find your own way
there's nothing written down
nothing here to tell you
nothing to tell you to turn around
I see you ?? / hating / waiting sounds a bit more like "hating", but it would make more sense or maybe I'd just like it better if it was something else ...
don't want to see you ?? / hating / waiting
sometimes you shine
sometimes you fall
sometimes you know
nothing at all
want to see you shine, shine, shine like I know you can
want to see you shine, shine, shine like I know I am
sometimes you shine
sometimes you fall
sometimes you know
sometimes you need
someone to hold
something that's real
never alone
until we can feel
life in our soul
want to see you shine, shine, shine like I know you can
want to see you shine, shine, shine like I know I am

QuoteSpringtime in Trondheim, people walk around happy

We've read that Phnom Penh has fallen
There are people celebrating everywhere!
Cambodia is free! The world is moving forward.
The people are celebrating in the streets. Five years of war has ended.
You can just sit there and mope for yourself, Mr. Ford.
You can sit there and mope until you get the world record
What you stand for has suffered defeat!
The peoples of the world march forward today!
Cambodia is free! The world is moving forward.
The people are celebrating in the streets. Five years of war has ended.

"Revolution is the main tendency today"
A small country can knock down a large one
What is it Cambodia has done?
Cambodia is free! The world is moving forward.
The people are celebrating in the streets. Five years of war has ended.

For my fellow rivetheads: Assemblage 23 came out with a new LP called Bruise. After his last one, I was a bit skeptical, but it's improved. It's still miserable, but at least it's back to being dark AND miserable, instead of pop and miserable like Compass was. Tom Shear cannot compete with Ronan Harris from VNV Nation on that front. Ronan is allowed to be happy and hate-filled at the same time, Tom cannot pull it off.

I think this lends further weight to my thesis, "FUCK CANCER IN THE ASS."
Yep, I totally put this in the wrong thread, as I can't really listen to my sister's vag.
Shows you I wasn't paying attention to fucking anything yesterday after she told me. Sorry guys.

If I had
If I had more
More would be laid at your feet
If you give me
Just a little smile
The dogs on my trail wouldn't drag me back to jail
I woke up in a horse's stomach one foggy morning
His eyes were crazy and he smashed into the cemetery gates
All I want is to be a happy man
All I want is to be a happy man
I've seen teeth
Across the horizon
Fangs spanning yellow against the earth
There ain't nothing, yeah but ghosts
Fever, rabbit dreams and drunken boats
I woke up in a horse's stomach one foggy morning
His eyes were crazy and he smashed into the cemetery gates
All I want is to be a happy man
All I want is to be a happy man
I woke up in a horse's stomach one foggy morning
His eyes were crazy and he smashed into the cemetery gates
All I want is to be a happy man
All I want is to be a happy man
All I want is to be a happy man

Yes. And Brighton, Bristol, Birmingham, Manchester, Edinburgh and London.
One of my favourite ever Zappa tunes (there are many of those):

In fact, the entire Man from Utopia album. Underrated gem, in my opinion. From the same record (not available online!- this is a live version, unfortunately inferior to the album version, too fast, and no unison guitar):

Dark beats, a translated account of a survivor of the Rwandan genocide, samples of apparent government representatives talking about how if they call genocide what it is that they'd have to do something about it, text about The Machine:

Two very neato songs are "Eris" by Starkey and of course "Lotion" by The Greenskeepers(not related to the other, just a fun Silence of the Lambs knock-off). Listen to them. Love them.

My phone is very smart! Also I am unable to update it because it was smart back when smartphones first came out, and so it doesn't update over the airwebs, but by plugging into my computer rectangle and updating through itunes, which I can't update because my computer's OS is too old and unsupported.
I am just waiting for that one guy who promised to lend me Snow Leopard to do it so I can buy the most recent OS, because I can't upgrade to the most recent OS from the OS I currently have.
Then I can upgrade everything! At that point, undoubtedly my Photoshop and Office will stop working. Trade-offs.
Also, my computer totally played music up until about three weeks ago. Now it's all "WHAAAAAAAAAAT? SORRY. UNSUPPORTED."
