Only 5 people joined my league so I had to fill it up with random Yahoo spags. If one of them wins the league I'm holding all of you responsible.

In insipid news, Eris started pre-school last week. It's at a megachurch a couple of miles from us, so that should be interesting...

I have sworn to never step foot in the state of Michigan. I don't think I have to explain why.

Also, Detroit has an east side?  :?

Not really. It has the Grosse Pointes, which are extremely posh suburban enclaves sometimes referred to as "East Detroit" by people who think it conveys more street cred than admitting they live in some of the wealthiest suburbs in the country.

                                                 Fascinating!

I usually cannot stand Coldplay, but this song is...fairly indicative of how I have felt of late:

Coldplay - Viva La Vida

I used to rule the world
Seas would rise when I gave the word
Now in the morning I sweep alone
Sweep the streets I used to own

I used to roll the dice
Feel the fear in my enemy's eyes
Listen as the crowd would sing:
"Now the old king is dead! Long live the king!"

One minute I held the key
Next the walls were closed on me
And I discovered that my castles stand
Upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand

I hear Jerusalem bells a ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can't explain
Once you go there was never, never an honest word
That was when I ruled the world
(Ohhh)

It was the wicked and wild wind
Blew down the doors to let me in
Shattered windows and the sound of drums
People couldn't believe what I'd become

Revolutionaries wait
For my head on a silver plate
Just a puppet on a lonely string
Oh who would ever want to be king?

I hear Jerusalem bells a ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can't explain
I know Saint Peter will call my name
Never an honest word
But that was when I ruled the world
(Ohhhhh Ohhh Ohhh)

I hear Jerusalem bells a ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can't explain
I know Saint Peter will call my name
Never an honest word
But that was when I ruled the world
Oooooh Oooooh Oooooh

Sorry about digging up something from 2 years ago but I meant to comment on it but kept forgetting. And yeah.. I think I'm secure enough in my manhood to admit that I like Coldplay. Yes, they are hokey and a bit too formulaic but they know how to write a damn good pop song. And I've accidentally gotten my daughter hooked on them (her favorite color is yellow, they have a song called "Yellow". I swear it's not my fault!)

As for this song, they do a good job at latching on to that feeling that every male until he in his mid-to-late 20s thinks he is going to be a rockstar. Or as Neal Stephenson put it:

Quote
"Until a man is twenty-five, he still thinks, every so often, that under the right circumstances he could be the baddest motherfucker in the world. If I moved to a martial-arts monastery in China and studied real hard for ten years. If my family was wiped out by Colombian drug dealers and I swore myself to revenge. If I got a fatal disease, had one year to live, and devoted it to wiping out street crime. If I just dropped out and devoted my life to being bad."

Then at 26, you realize that you are very very average and will never be king.  :kingmeh:

Literate Chaotic / Re: Unofficial What are you Reading Thread?

Recently read American Juggalo (Kindle Single). It is a not-quite-gonzo story by a journalist who went to The Gathering in southern Illinois and somehow survived. Could have been better but he had some interesting insights into their culture.  The publisher of that, N+1, also has a book called What Was the Hipster?: A Sociological Investigation which I'm dying to read sometime soon.

Also read The Game from Where I Stand by Doug Glanville. I'm sure it wouldn't interest anyone here but it's good as far as baseball books go.

Also read The Stranger by Camus. I'm not ready to discuss it yet.  :|

High Weirdness / Just Say No... to hiding meth in your vagina

The Murray County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shocking allegation in the sudden death of a young, expectant mother. Megan Long, 19, died in the hospital Sunday and family members and friends claim she was poisoned after she agreed to hide methamphetamine inside her body.

Megan's father Mickey Long says Megan was with her boyfriend Duke and her mother, April Flood when they were pulled over by a Murray County Sheriff's Deputy last week. He claims April gave her pregnant daugther Megan meth during the stop and told her to hide it inside her vagina. "They had got pulled over and she stuffed a quarter ounce insider her and when they got here they were going to take it back out, but there wasn't anything left but a bag."

Later that night Mickey said Megan started having seizure-like symptoms. Even though Mickey wasn't in the car for that traffic stop, he claims his ex-wife admitted she asked Megan to place meth inside her body.

Murray County Sheriff Howard Ensley says both his department and GSP are investigating Megan's death and have sent her body to a crime lab for an autopsy. Ensley expects the toxicology to report in a couple of weeks.

Chose a movie last night. Prince Caspian. Three hours of kids and taking animals failing and getting horribly mangled while Aslan dicks around to make some kind of intangible point about the nature of faith. Jackass lion.
LOL, LEO EX MACHINA!
