Title: UNLIMITED Biden thread (for good or for ill)
Post by: Doktor Howl on January 22, 2021, 08:14:17 PM
I'll start:

QuoteWASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden has directed his intelligence community to study the threat of domestic extremism in the United States, an undertaking being launched weeks after a violent mob loyal to Donald Trump stormed the U.S. Capitol.

The disclosure Friday by White House press secretary Jen Psaki is a stark acknowledgment of the national security threat that officials see as posed by American extremists motivated to violence by extremist ideology. The involvement of the director of national intelligence, an office created after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks to prevent international terrorism, suggests that American authorities are examining how to pivot to a more concerted focus on violence from radical extremists at home.

QuoteWASHINGTON (AP) — Lloyd J. Austin, a West Point graduate who rose to the Army's elite ranks and marched through racial barriers in a 41-year career, won Senate confirmation Friday to become the nation's first Black secretary of defense.

The 93-2 vote gave President Joe Biden his second Cabinet member; Avril Haines was confirmed on Wednesday as the first woman to serve as director of national intelligence. Biden is expected to win approval for others on his national security team in coming days, including Antony Blinken as secretary of state.

Biden is looking for Austin to restore stability atop the Pentagon, which went through two Senate-confirmed secretaries of defense and four who held the post on an interim basis during the Trump administration. The only senators who voted against Austin were Republicans Mike Lee of Utah and Josh Hawley of Missouri.

We need to have words with Hawley.

Out back.

In the woodshed.

Why use a perfectly good leiomano when you can simply give him a basket of hungry, bored ferrets?

I too needed to look it up. There has to be a way to work these into a murder mystery or some sort of magical quest, maybe both. I am kinda impressed with how horrible and MESSY it might be to get beaten/shredded to death by one.

So basically, someone took slapping someone with a fish and optimized it. Neat.

I'm striving for balance.

I'm also keeping an eye on the whole "kids are still in cages at the border" thing.

On the plus side, Biden is driving the British right absolutely around the bend in a way Obama never managed. Whether it's because of his Irish roots, or his support for transgender people, it's driving both the English nationalist Tories and the "feminist" TERFs absolutely mental.

Well, there's at least that.

So much for an almost-livable wage... (https://www.politico.com/news/2021/02/18/biden-governors-minimum-wage-469898?fbclid=IwAR1HUpqWmJ953YepVeeSvw1miEBODHfy8J8bS6VoAwJzOBdUQEpL6nir1Qk)

Well, yeah.  Mancin has already promised to vote against the bill if that's included, which makes it 51-49 against and nothing goes through.

So, no increase in poverty level wages, no unilateral action on student loans, kids still going into cages, slow and shonky foreign policy.... Without some serious ginger up his arse, I can't see much of the damage of the last gimp being fully undone. If anything, I'm strongly suspecting that not pushing this kind of shit through is going to lead to a horrible redo.

If this is the current evolution of the two man con, it really is taking the piss and you lot will need the sheen/el chapo leadership I've suggested for a while.

To be fair, he ran with the promise to go back to politics as normal... which means 2010, and the rich, fertile soil that grew Trumpism in the first place.

If the Left doesn't start pushing REALLY hard, the GOP will take the midterms, and OrangeBoi will be back in office in 2024.

How can we push?  Letters to congress critters obviously, but I doubt that's enough.  Will more riots help or hurt in your opinion?

1.  The wage increase was killed by the senate parliamentarian on the grounds that it does not meet some arcane budget reconciliation rule.

2.  Kids are not actually still going into cages.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2021/02/23/no-bidens-new-border-move-isnt-like-trumps-kids-cages-not-hardly/

In fact, more than a hundred kids separated long term have been reunited with their parents (which was a bastard to do, given it's been 3-4 years and tracking people down was a bitch), and efforts continue.

3.  All but one of Trump's asshole moves have been undone or are in the process of being undone.  The only thing left is the tax cut.

Oh, it's better than I thought then.

I still say el chapo would do more for getting the economy moving though.

That's a serious suitcase of kompromat that he's got. Must have been busy gathering it since the last go.

It's more likely than an outpouring of bipartisan goodwill, anyway.

Well, we've seen the GOP's idea of "bipartisan".

If the dems can get the infrastructure bill through, though, it's the end of the line for the GOP as a viable force.
