Or Kill Me / Re: Stop demonizing medication.

Well yeah, it's imperfect, and what came before was a serious humanitarian tragedy. To try to deny that or sweep it under the rug is, in my opinion, the worst kind of willful-ignorance. Sometimes, it's easy for folks to forget that our policies were a source of inspiration for the Nazis. Eugenics is a constant stain on our history that persists in society like a dank, bloody fart. But now things are a lot better, and at this point refusing to seek help for mental illness is highly dangerous and irresponsible. It's no longer like the days of my grandparents where people were sterilized to maintain some mistaken notion of genetic superiority.

EDITED TO ADD: Also the issue of funding may be a challenge. For a while I couldn't get treatment, but if you're in the United States, you could try calling the United Way at 211 to ask about social services, there may be some available for you that you didn't previously know about, it worked for me when I was homeless, they got me set up with the services I needed to at least maintain some semblance of stability. But unlike say, a suicide hotline, you likely won't get the police called on you, get wrestled to the ground, potentially shot, just inquire about available services because it's much more fraught with peril in the event of an emergency.

I can confidently say that guy isn't me. More on topic, there's a little potential issue with SSRIs, but it's only certain cases that have it. It happened to me. I didn't know I was bipolar, the doctors didn't either, they just knew I was very depressed at the time, so they gave me SSRIs. The problem with that is it can trigger a manic episode. Again plenty of people take SSRIs without any major issues whatsoever, so they're not somehow inherently bad, and in fact for the people they work for they can be a godsend.

But that's not what happened to me, it snowballed into literally the worst manic episode in my life. This is why you should be totally honest with your doctors, so they can get a gauge of your mood and know that something might be, off. It was really scary. That said I would never say "medication bad", but I would tell anyone willing to listen that it's also important you are aware of your mental state and don't just take it for granted, lest you end up playing matador with 75 mph traffic on the interstate like I did.

If one is ever considering not taking their medications it is important to discuss it with their doctor. These folks go to school for a very long time  to know the things they do, and provided there's no scum-tells from them you should actually, you know, trust them, don't pull a dumbass and embarrass yourself and possibly cause accidents like I did.

I'm worried about people, I'm going to shut up now.

I worry what the good doctor may be cooking up in his evil science facility, I come here to get my news, I want to know a little bit ahead of time if the universe is going to undergo a dramatic and nonsensical implosion.

EDIT: I don't want the universe to end while I have money in my pocket, if it must end I want to run out and buy a sandwich.

This thread, the Billy thread, and the useful insights and witty banter the members here have are part of what keeps me coming back here despite the fact that a lot of people wish I wouldn't. Always a thought-provoking read that encourages me to shift my perspective. Thanks for continuing to provide perspective, Cramulus.

But yeah, me continuing to check here, I've been trying to just observe, I'm not a good participant but that doesn't mean I can't find the content interesting. So yeah, time for me to go back to lurking.

Please write a guidebook for the end of the world, Doktor Howl.

I, too, bounce on balls while contemplating life's big questions.

This thread is actually quite insightful. Thanks, a number of things make more sense now, also I had no idea what "sealioning" was until today.

This is all very alarming, still it strikes me that this whole thing has been allowed to progress to a stage where it seems like it may become a "new normal", we had a chance early on to contain our exposure but given how we proceeded, I don't see US citizens being welcome in other countries, especially given a few articles I read about Canadians reporting foreign license plates. Other than that, I don't know what to say, other than this all is very concerning and seems like something we'll definitely end up paying for for generations.

You're right, and it sucks. It's what we're going to have to do though to side-step the doorknob-licker apocolypse. Let's hope someone puts Trump out of commission before his administration can flex on schools for them to open.

EDIT: My best friend had a crisis recently, ICE was going to ship her brother out of the country because all his classes went online, luckilly a week or two and twenty-something lawsuit-filers later they changed the rule.

The people who homeschool in the face of the pandemic will survive, the ones who don't may lose family members. It will suck and it will have resounding consequences. Homeschooling, it's not just for weird Libertarians anymore.

I have problems with the Trump administration insisting that schools open, they're playing games with people's lives. Everyone knows that every snot-nosed brat-child licks every doorknob they come across and mercilessly spreads disease, this was acceptable when it was the Flu, which, while it kills people doesn't cause lasting damage, but when it comes to COVID-19 we have to be especially careful. I met a woman I fell hopelessly in love with, she feels the same way, but neither of us want to take the chance of visiting eachother and giving the other the disease. But you know the Trump cultists will be sure to have their doorknob lickers step it up and get everyone they can sick, mostly in their own family. Maybe some form of Darwinism will emerge from this, but as an idiot that survives the worst shit I've lost faith in natural selection.

The price is wrong, biatch. Probably the wrong game show.

Yay Altered! I know you hate me but fuck it, I hope it works out in spite of your hate for me, I curse you to happiness. Now I go back to lurking.

Yeah,  you know what? You win. It's senseless for me to continue. It simply is not worth it. Not because I'm scared, but because, if no one wants me here, me saying more dumb shit is pointless. There's a billion other communities  that actually appreciate my input, I should  go back to those. So yeah, going the fuck away.
