When it comes to being challenged in combat I like Mount & Blade: Warband. There are a lot of options you can set to make it as hard as you want to.

Especially controlling attack and block directions manually and setting damage to player at least at normal makes for very fun battles.

Israel built and exploded so-called "dirty bombs," explosives laced with nuclear material, to examine how such explosions would affect the country if it were to be attacked by the crude radioactive weapons, the Haaretz daily newspaper reported Monday.

Israeli defense officials and scientists refused to comment on the report when reached by The Associated Press. However, Israel has what is widely considered to be an extensive nuclear weapons program that it has never declared.

The Haaretz report, which included photographs, said the project conducted 20 detonations with explosives laced with a radioactive substance. Mini-drones measured radiation levels and sensors logged the force of the explosions, Haaretz reported.

Researchers quoted in the Haaretz report said the Israeli tests were for defensive purposes only. They said high radiation was found at the center of blasts while small particles carried by wind didn't pose serious danger, except for the psychological effect of such an attack.

The newspaper said the project, code-named "Green Field" and conducted by staff from Israel's nuclear reactor in the southern town of Dimona, ended in 2014 after four years of tests. Most were conducted in Israel's Negev Desert and one in a closed facility, it said.

The only thing I took issue with was that the editor-in-chief dude thought I was excusing "hearts and minds", which I sorta WAS, but in the 1945 sense, not the 1965 sense.

I wasn't "excusing" it, really.  I was describing something EFFECTIVE.  As compared to the shit that went on 20 years later.

I just used almost completely forgotten statistics knowledge to figure out why our workload is so hard to predict.
It is worse than i thought.
I had completely forgotten how standard deviations worked and what they actually mean.
At least now I know that planning is pointless since the STDEV is half as big as the average.
So there is a 68,2% chance that we need between half and 1,5x the average number of workers.

I would need to collect more detailed data to say more though. I can think of a few things that would give us a handle on things.

Bigots will get confused about who to hate, they will solve this by hating everyone. They won't immediately notice but this will make people hate them less. Since the amount of hate a bigot generates is mostly made up of the way others feel about him this will result in a net decrease in hate.

You have just defended the position opposite of mine: The one where people should get locked up for pretending to be of a different race than their parents are.

Harry Potter = Ridiculously stupid and inconsistent magic system. Also, irresponsible authority figures.
Game of Thrones = Almost no magic. Also, main characters die.
The hobbit = A story where the hero consistently saves his employers by using common sense, apparently he is the only one who has it.

So we have irresponsible authority figures, important characters die all the time, and common sense is uncommon. In this damn boring setting I would bloody well need acid to keep awake.
