My curfew was the street lights and my mom didn't call my cell, she yelled "time to come in".
R. For she lacked the technology
I played outside with friends, not online.
R. And now I point this out with my friends online, not outside.
If I didn't eat what my mom made me, then I didn't eat.
R. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be.
Hand sanitizer didn't exist, but you COULD get your mouth washed out with soap.
R. For we care not for sanitation, we prefer being abused by our parents.
I rode a bike without a helmet.
R. And clearly it shows.
And getting dirty was OK.
R. Which is why mom would constantly bitch about the state of our clothes.
Click "like" if you drank water from the garden hose and survived.
R. For if you didn't survive thou shalt be unable to click.
Yea, verily let us ignore the fact that we are just like the children we complain about and keep our minds firmly in the simpler good old days, which are only simpler because we were too stupid to understand that the world was just as complex as it is now, and good because we suppressed all of the bad memories. Let us instead vilify the younger generation unnecessarily, even though we are the parents now, and if we don't have kids, we shouldn't have shit to say about how the kids are these days, and if we do, then it would be right to blame us for neglecting our children in hypocritical favor of the internet so that we may wax nostalgic with friends we haven't seen in person in twenty years.
Amen.

Everybody used to sleep with their windows open.
BECAUSE NOBODY HAD FUCKING AIR CONDITIONING.
Thats a good one too. It shows a bit of the mentality of nobody does it the way they used to. People obviously still open windows he its not too hot out to do so.

a storm knocked my town's power out last night, and we had to open the windows.
The wife complained until she fell asleep.
The city to the south of still had power so I didn't get to see the stars from my house :(
I'm not sure, but I think my house doesn't have ac, so we open the windows and use fans....when it gets over 70.....
Everybody used to roast meat on a stick over an open fire
BECAUSE WE DIDN'T HAVE KITCHENS YET.
Even if you have AC, it's a good idea not to run your electric bill up to $600+.

BACK IN THE DAY WE HAD A CHOICE: THE SLOP JAR OR THE SHIT HOUSE.
Back in the day nobody ever worried about cooking pork until it was well-done, or thawing meat under running water
BECAUSE FOOD SANITATION HADN'T BEEN INVENTED YET AND WHEN SOMEONE DIED OF FOOD POISONING IT WAS ASSUMED THAT THEY HAD BEEN STRUCK DOWN BY AN ANGRY GOD FOR VIOLATING SOME ARBITRARY RULE.
When I was a kid we rode our bicycles and skateboards without helmets and we're still alive today to tell you about it
BECAUSE THE KIDS WHO DIED FROM PREVENTABLE BRAIN TRAUMA CAN'T TALK.
Back in the day, all the kids helped out on the farm.
SOMETIMES THEY FELL IN THE THRESHERS OR GOT A MULE KICK TO THE HEAD BUT IT WAS A GOLDEN AGE.
Back in the day we didnt have to worry bout terrorists.
WE WERE ABLE TO AIM OUR VAST NUCLEAR ARSENALS AT A WELL DEFINED FOE
Back in the day the kids didnt do crystal meth.
PEOPLE DID PROPER DRUGS LIKE CRACK
:lulz:
When I was a kid nobody ever worried about being molested or abducted
IT JUST HAPPENED ALL THE TIME AND NOBODY TALKED ABOUT IT.
Back when i was a kid we didnt have to worry about getting molested
NO ONE REALLY TALKED ABOUT THAT
In the good old days we didnt worry about retirement funds.
LIFE EXPECTANCY WAS SHORTER THEN
Ah whoops didnt see your post before nigel sorry about the echo
:lulz: Great minds
Back in the day people didnt get divorced
SINCE WOMEN COULDNT SUPPORT THEMSELVES FINANCIALLY WE GAVE THEM VALIUM TO DEAL WITH SPOUSAL ABUSE AND EXPLOITATION
I remember when a movie ticket cost a quarter
BUT SOMEHOW FORGOT I MADE A DOLLAR AN HOUR.
Our parents didnt worry about teaching us about safe sex
SYPHILIS WAS A PLEASANT SURPRISE AND WE RAN AWAY WHEN WE GOT PREGNANT LIKE YOURE SUPPOSED TO
I'm creating a group for this.
Indicate if you want in.
Those are fucking excellent. Maybe QG will consider putting them all together into an infographic we can passive-aggressively post on Facebook?
Freeky- in feel free to post anything ive put up so far.

Back in the day, children respected their elders.
BECAUSE WE TAUGHT THEM RESPECT WITH A BELT
I would have interest in such a group, Freeky.
And I second (third) Nigel's idea on the infographics
Quick vote on format:
1) Desaturated nostalgia photos with single pair of lines (i.e. Nobody got divorced / BECAUSE WOMEN COULDN'T SUPPORT THEMSELVES)
2) Long list of pairs over low contrast abstract background
3) List of "nevers" followed by list of "BECAUSES" with elaborate victorian-era clipart
Back in the day, Those People knew their place.
Back in the day, Women knew their place. And if this stressed them, we had Thalidomide to keep them happy. Happy as any Stepford Wife could expect to be. Shame about the flipper babies, but nothing in this world is free.
Back in the day, bullying was encouraged by teachers, to "toughen the kids up".
Back in the day, alcoholism was what you did after work.
Back in the day, we didn't talk about HIV, so it didn't exist.
Back in the day, we drove cars that killed everyone in them in a minor accidents.
Back in the day, if you couldn't get to the phone in a medical crisis, you died.
Ah, the good old days.

I like all of them. I like to keep memes kinda loose, so I'm in favor of all and future variations. Wide amount of interpretation while sticking to the basic form. "Back in the day X/BECAUSE OF HORRIBLE Y"
I also like the idea of the split pics to show contrast. Show a modern thing that wasn't always how it was, show a past thing as to why.

SO!
One of these was relevant on reddit, so I uploaded the bunch to imgur and made the gallery public. Reception has been overwhelmingly positive and somebody suggested the idea of a subreddit for such things. I wanted to check in with you all before doing something silly like that.
