She's...interesting.

Who is sarah palin?

Bug-shit crazy Governor of Alaska, now GOP VP nominee.  She believes in teaching "Intelligent Design" in science classes, no-exceptions abortion bans, and - it seems - having your labor cross 3 states.  Rumor has it, of course, that it wasn't her kid, but her daughters (she had a 28" waist at 7 mo pregnant).

I am going to LOVE this election!   :lulz:

She's a fucking LUNATIC!   :lulz:

Also, her experience (something valued by the GOP, until now), consists of 20 months as governor, and a couple of years as a mayor of a fishing village.  The whole GOP, and the best they could find was her.

Good thing she wasn't chosen as a hugely cynical campaign poster, or anything.

Do they fucking realize that she could very well be the nail-in-the-coffin?!

I don't care if they're pandering women voters or playing the minority "can you top this" game over the Dems but...Christ. She's a twat.

Finagle is alive and well, and apparently runs the GOP.   :lulz:

On the bright side, at least I know every state surrounding mine as well as RI are guaranteed Dem votes.

I'm telling you...The United Liberal States of New England is less than 4 years from secession, I'm just going to continue to watch the insanity up here.

The State of Massachusetts-Rhode Island and Providence Plantations maybe first...

I wish I could say as much about the states surrounding me. I don't actually know what the states around me vote, but I can say with certainty they're not all Democratic.

If the ULSoNE secedes, I'm moving there. Well, I'm moving there after college anyway, but... I'll move there quicker if they secede.

Though if Mark Warner would've run for president we would totally have gone democratic.  Everyone loves Mark Warner.

Even if the entire popular vote in RI or MA went to McCain, the electorals would STILL go to Obama. That's how blue we are. Not bad for a land that once upon a time barely tolerated religious freedom.

wow, that is insane!

Will I be seeing this news on CNN anytime soon, or can't it be proven?

Also, what do you think will happen when Obama loses the election?   I wonder if there will be riots? (like that whole LA rodney thing.)   I wonder if people will be rounded up and sent to FEMA camps?   hahahaha...  If Obama loses, I think there is potential for some serious ass-fuckery, but what the fuck do I know anyways.

i know a few canadians who hate the US they say americans are fine when they are alone, but once you get them in a group, it is unbearable...   arrogance skyrockets apparantly..  (i wouldn't know)

so if that does happens be prepaired for a lot of whiners whining about all the americans...

That's her giving a greeting for the AIP convention.

Proudly displayed on the organization's website is a quote from the founder saying, "I'm an Alaskan, not an American. I've got no use for America or her damned institutions."

Basically, they think they didn't get a proper choice about becoming a state in 1958. http://www.akip.org/statehood-primer.html is an article talking about why. It's pretty tl;dr, but essentially, they're loonies.

Mind, she hasn't said anything as controversial as "I'm not an American", but you can be sure that if she was a Democrat she would be flooded with questions about why she hates America. Why, I bet she doesn't even wear a flag pin!

Well those rats ain't gonna fuck themselves.

Set up a chain email - PALIN HATES AMERICA, WANTS TO BREAK COUNTRY APART and go crazy.  Add in something about John McCain being a Soviet sleeper agent and this being part of a massive secret plan and you're set.  Try to get yourself into the mindset of a paranoid Birch Society member, then start writing.

Not because of her policy stances.  I mean, she's right there with the base on policy.  Pro-life, pro-guns, Global Warming-non believer, pro-creationism, abstinence only (heh, funny), pro-drilling in ANWR, etc., etc.,  She even wants to take the Polar Bears off the Endangered Species list.

The problem with her as the candidate is in the logic of picking her at all.  I mean, if McCain wanted a woman that would attract Hillary supporters, why pick the one who's experience is directly proportional to her hemline?  McCain has two close friends who were women AND highly experienced, AND are actually kind of Maverick-ish.  I'm talking about my two senators Olympia Snow and Susan Collins.  Sure, they aren't as easy on the eyes as Palin, but their moderate stances on policy would be much more attractive to Hillary supporters.

Not only that, McCain is going to have to spend so much time introducing Palin to the American people, it's going to eat into the time he can spend talking about hiimself.

So from a tactical persepctive, it is a very odd pick.  It's certainly going against the grain.  He didn't make an easy pick like Obama did.  It'll be interesting to see how it plays out.

Of course he is going to be making irrational choices.  Furthermore, his legendary temper means no-one is going to tell him how stupid he is being.

According to this article in the New York Times: (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26501863/ (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26501863/)), John McCain really, really wanted his VP pick to be Lieberman or Tom Ridge.  But of course the hardcore Conservatives threw a hissy-fit when they got wind of it, with both being pro-choice.  Also, insiders convinced him he needed to shake up his campaign or else he was sure to lose.  So this really was a Hail Mary pick.

I kinda wish he had picked Liberman, if for no other reason than to see that tool get chewed up by Biden.

Yeah, but they hate Obama more. They would've voted for McCain anyway. Just look at all the fundies who said during the primary, "ARGH WE'RE NEVER GOING TO STAND WITH MCCAIN IF HE GETS NOMINATED WE ARE SO OUT OF HERE" and are now, "Yeah, we were just kidding. We'll totally vote for him."

There is the whole "enthusiasm gap" problem, where Obama's supporters are way more excited and have a higher opinion of him, then McCain's supporters do of him (last poll I saw on this had a pretty big gap, anyway), so it's beneficial in that sense, but I have a hard time imagining a large group of people switching their vote to McCain because of Palin. I don't know, maybe I'm wrong. I mean, I'm not a conservative, or a politician, for that matter.

But if it was me, I would've tried to pick somebody who appealed to the moderate/independent crowd, not somebody with views that are far-right of the majority of Americans. It just seems like a really bad choice, especially since they apparently didn't really vet her, and now all this scandal stuff is coming up.

QuoteStein says that as mayor, Palin continued to inject religious beliefs into her policy at times. "She asked the library how she could go about banning books," he says, because some voters thought they had inappropriate language in them. "The librarian was aghast." That woman, Mary Ellen Baker, couldn't be reached for comment, but news reports from the time show that Palin had threatened to fire Baker for not giving "full support" to the mayor.

Wow...We should start the New England Civil War for the sheer lulz factor.

Vermont stays out of it though, they got nothing we want but Ben and Jerry's. Fucking hippies. I don't know what New Hampshire has, but we want them, they have no tax on booze and sell fireworks year round.

According to the US government, the devil is probably in New Hampshire.
http://blog.forpeterssake.com/2007/12/this-day-in-history-satan-wins-his-case.html

Summary by Wikipedia:
QuoteIn 1971, Gerald Mayo brought a civil rights action in the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania against Satan and his servants who allegedly placed deliberate obstacles in Mayo's path and caused Mayo's downfall. In this U.S. court's written opinion, the court did not deny the existence of Satan; rather, the court asserted that it was unlikely that Satan was ever present in the geographic area included in the Western District of Pennsylvania, stating, "We question whether plaintiff may obtain personal jurisdiction over the defendant in this judicial district." In what was clearly a jocular reference to The Devil and Daniel Webster, the court implied that Satan might live in New Hampshire, stating, "While the official reports disclose no case where this defendant has appeared as defendant there is an unofficial account of a trial in New Hampshire where this defendant filed an action of mortgage foreclosure as plaintiff." This appears to be the only published legal case in the United States regarding the existence of Satan and, at present, the United States' official position would seem to be that Satan may exist and, if so, Satan might be found in New Hampshire.

Sarah Palin at the RNC:

Quote"I have protected the taxpayers by vetoing wasteful spending ... and championed reform to end the abuses of earmark spending by Congress. I told the Congress 'thanks but no thanks' for that Bridge to Nowhere."

Sarah Palin 9 years ago:

QuoteTake, for example, Wasilla City Council Informational Memorandum 99-62, prepared on June 14, 1999. This little gem outlines some of the state-funded projects that Wasilla City secured that year, including $1.2 million for storm water treatment and $605,000 for pedestrian pathways.

Then, slapped in the margin, former Mayor Sarah Palin -- reformer extraordinaire -- scribbled the following message:

FYI This does not include our nearly one million Dollars from the Feds for our Airport Paving Project.

We did well!!!

He interviewed Obama last night.  In the interview Keith asked him about Palin, I think it was about her kooky church.  He suggested that Palin will answer those questions herself when she does interviews and said she's sure to go on Countdown with Keith to do an interview.

Keith just laughed at Obama.

:lulz:  Damn, that would be awesome.

No, they are both getting schooled by their separate campaigns.

Nice thing is, I've noticed when her voice gets strident, it surpasses even Hillary's on the shrill factor.  I mean, it actually has a CRACKING quality.  As a linguist, I know this makes a difference.  So they're going to be schooling her on keeping that quality low, but if he shakes her up, and gets her to start yelling...the cringing will ensue.

I'm hoping she is so unschooled she'll start sighing like Gore and getting aggressive and shout.  She's come out with teeth bared, so I know Biden will have some pithy stuff in his arsenal, he just needs to keep the patronizing, "There, there, lil girl" out of HIS voice as well.

I think he's already been branded.

Like I said, if he uses his quick-thinking brain (dude is SHARP!) to sting her and zing her, it's ok, he's just gotta keep that know-it-all thing out of the tone is all.

Because either way, she sounds like a fucking fool when she talks.  Even when she was trying to rip Obama and his campaign a new one at her RNC acceptance speech, listen to the quality of her voice and the cadence.  It churns the stomach.

I'm willing to bet most people (aka men) kept the volume low and just stared into those eyes of hers followed by watching that smirking mouth open, close, open, close.

Don't think she was inspiring things political that night--rather things horizontal.

in case you didn't sign up:

Quote
Dear Alex,

STREWTH!

The Michael Palin for President campaign is off to a roaring start.

The campaign video, launched the same night the OTHER Palin delivered her "you haven't actually nominated me yet but I'll accept your nomination anyway" speech, has now been seen by MORE THAN 200,000 PEOPLE.

According to ViralVideoChart and several other sources, we're one of the most-viewed videos in the world over the last week.

The Palin for President video has also been featured in blogs on the Los Angeles Times website and the Obama-Biden website, along with hundreds ofothers all over the web. (We even got a call from CNN!)

Best of all, the official Monty Python site, Pythonline.com, is currently featuring the video as one of its lead stories.

Viewer response has been almost universally positive, with an avalanche of requests for bumper stickers and campaign buttons coming in. (We're workin' on it!)

Of course the opposition has been heard from as well, offering such insightful and considered political discourse as "If you have a child, I hope he dies in a car fire!" and "F--k your video and f--k you!"

Apparently we've hit a nerve.

But now is not the time for complacency.

As has been suggested recently (we forget where) this election is not about the candidates.  It's about YOU.

You may not know it, but because you signed up for this newsletter and accepted your free fuzzy thing, you are now a de facto member
of the Committee to Elect Michael Palin President (also known as the Silly Party).

AND WE NEED YOUR HELP!

With only two months to go before the election, there are a number of things you can do to help YOUR candidate...

--SPREAD THE WORD by sending everyone you know to:
http://www.michaelpalinforpresident.com/vid

--ENGAGE IN SOCIAL DEBATE by rubbing Fuzzy Things on Republicans.

--ENGAGE IN CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE by doing Silly Walks in government buildings.

But the big question on everyone's mind is...

In case you don't want to read both pages:

QuoteAnother valley activist, Philip Munger, says that Palin also helped push the evangelical drive to take over the Mat-Su Borough school board. "She wanted to get people who believed in creationism on the board," said Munger, a music composer and teacher. "I bumped into her once after my band played at a graduation ceremony at the Assembly of God. I said, 'Sarah, how can you believe in creationism -- your father's a science teacher.' And she said, 'We don't have to agree on everything.'

"I pushed her on the earth's creation, whether it was really less than 7,000 years old and whether dinosaurs and humans walked the earth at the same time. And she said yes, she'd seen images somewhere of dinosaur fossils with human footprints in them."

Munger also asked Palin if she truly believed in the End of Days, the doomsday scenario when the Messiah will return. "She looked in my eyes and said, 'Yes, I think I will see Jesus come back to earth in my lifetime.'"

So the options are: 1) She was lying back then, 2) she is lying now, 3) she had a political religious epiphany.  Doesn't really matter at this point.  She is Neocon Barbie. She is Ann Coulter with a better stylist.  She is Jerry Falwell reincarnated. She is Rick Santorum in a dress.

I took "she is a liar" as a given, though which way around is the worry.  Either she's a fundie who has taken the curiously Islamic position of its OK to lie for God (Taqiyya), which is very bad, or she's a pretender playing at faith (also bad, but not quite as bad).

I tend to the former, though.  She has only gravitated away from the more extreme groups as her political fortunes have risen.

PALIN BAGS A BIGFOOT
http://www.weeklyworldnews.com/?p=2605
Quote
WASILLA, AK - Records and eyewitnesses have come to light that prior to announcing her candidacy for the Vice Presidency; Sarah Palin shot a Bigfoot from a helicopter.
A government helicopter was seen flying low over the Chugach National Park with what witnesses described as “a sexy librarian shooting out the side.” Employees at a local bait shop report seeing a similar woman only hours before carrying an infant in a camouflage Baby Bjorn.
The Bigfoot, or Sasquatch as it is known in scientific circles, was found dead on the outskirts of the park, just south of Wasilla, Alaska.  Preliminary forensics reports confirm that an adult male Sasquatch was shot in the face with Palin’s trademark 5mm M4 Carbine Assault Rifle.
Environmental groups are in an uproar at the hunting death of a rare and notoriously reclusive species.  Efforts to have the Sasquatch placed on the endangered species list have met with repeated opposition from state legislature, since protecting the ‘Missing Link’ could be seen as validating evolution.
Conservatives have immediately rallied to their party’s new star, citing that gun ownership and hunting are indelible parts of American culture.  Indeed this point is hard to argue, as John Adams was notorious for having captured what he called a “Skunk Ape” and killing it with his bare hands on the White House lawn in front of a paying audience.

The only dinosaur/human footprints I have seen are obvious fakes.  But, they would be, BECAUSE THEY'RE FUCKING FRAUDS!

sweet merciful fuck pterodactyls creationists

QuoteIt is possible too that some of those huge flying reptiles, the pterosaurs, also survived Noah's Flood and lived into recent times. The Illustrated London News of February 9, 1856 (p. 166) reported that workmen digging a railway tunnel in France last century disturbed a huge winged creature at Culmont, in Haute Marne, while blasting rock for the tunnel.

The creature was described as livid black, with a long neck and sharp teeth. It looked like a bat, and its skin was thick and oily. It died soon after. Its wingspan was measured at 3.22 metres (10 feet 7 inches). A naturalist 'immediately recognised it as belonging to the genus Pterodactylus anas', and it matched the remains of known pterodactyl fossils.

American Indians have stories of creatures they call 'thunderbirds', the description of which resembles that of a pterosaur. It is possible that the reason they can describe and draw these creatures is because their ancestors saw them.

Less conclusive perhaps, but not necessarily to be dismissed, are modern claims of sightings of dinosaur-type creatures. Yet even among these there seem to be credible witnesses.

Quote"The 2nd Law of Thermodynamics began at the Fall."

This law says that the entropy ("disorder") of the universe increases over time, and some have thought that this was the result of the Curse. However, disorder isn't always harmful. An obvious example is digestion, breaking down large complex food molecules into their simple building blocks. Another is friction, which turns ordered mechanical energy into disordered heat—otherwise Adam and Eve would have slipped as they walked with God in Eden! A less obvious example to laymen might be the sun heating the earth—to a physical chemist, heat transfer from a hot object to a cold one is the classic case of the Second Law in action. Also, breathing is based on another classic Second Law process, gas moving from a high pressure to low pressure. Finally, all beneficial processes in the world, including the development from embryo to adult, increase the overall disorder of the universe, showing that the Second Law is not inherently a curse.

if creationists are so big into fossil evidence...  wait, I can't even finish this statement it is so retarded.  I used to have a coworker who swore that dinosaurs weren't real.  He believed the "archeologists" were carving the bones out of rock, not uncovering them!

I guess the creationists should just get some bigfoot prints and ask science to explain where the sasquatch fits into the evolutionary scale.

A few years ago, I saw this special on EWTN, the Catholic Cable network.  They were trying to demonstrate the world was only however many thousands of years the Bible claims it is.  They were trying to refute the argument of how fossil fuels demonstrates that the Earth must be millions of years old because it takes a long, long ass time for fossil fuels to form.

So, some Catholic scientist was trying to demonstrate how a fossil fuel could be made in just a few thousand years.  He basically just cut off a part of a dowel, put it in this high pressure thingy to simulate a plant being under pressure for a few thousand of years.  He pulled it out and said "voila, coal!"  But, the little piece of wood just looked like it was burnt, didn't look like any coal I've ever seen.

It was pretty comical.

Pressure (billions of tons), heat, and lots of time. Fossil chemistry requires millions of years to occur. Rock cannot just replace bone overnight. Strata don't get layed down in a couple centuries.

My favorite theory about this election is that the media is doing everything it can to make it seem like a much closer race than it actually is. From everything I have seen myself, it doesn't sound completely unbelievable. The fact that I live in Wyoming but have seen more campaign signs for Obama than for McCain does catch my attention.

Don't know how much effect the media can have on polls in general, but it does look like a dead heat from this collection of data.
I do get the feeling (from afar) that there are lots of people strongly in favor of Obama, far more than actually love McCain... McCain's voters seem to be voting merely Republican/Conservative/Palin, whereas lots of Obama voters are voting Obama.

But I can't help thinking the elections will be subtly rigged, like they very likely were in 2004 (voting machines, etc, bla bla).

Well, I'm under no illusions that Wyoming will go to Obama in November. But it's interesting to see that even here, the most visible signs of support are for a Democrat. It probably is attributable to the fact that the Democratic minority is more vocal this year, but the more vocal and motivated a group is, the more likely they are to actually vote.

FiveThirtyEight (http://www.fivethirtyeight.com) has it a lot further apart (currently 311.5 for Obama, 226.5 McCain).  The interesting thing is the Super Tracker chart in the right hand column.  Looks like the Palin bump is completely gone now.

Who is sarah palin?

:lulz:

Ah, the good old days.

I take comfort in the knowledge that people will be asking that very question again in about 30 years or less.

Assuming, of course, that questions are still being asked at that point.

Sarah Palin is also the pet project of the Wonkette blog.  Speaking of which...

QuoteSarah Palin's hometown newspaper reported last week that America's Sweetheart got a restraining order against a Pennsylvania teenager who sent her death threats. After learning their baby had been put in a corner, the Sarah Palin Internet swiftly came to her rescue, and now everything is right in the world because this teenager is now receiving round-the-clock threats against his own life. That's what that pinko kiddie gets for messing with this nation's true president! But it turns out the teenager is actually a fellow Sarah Palin fan, not a librul Muslin terrorist.

QuoteThe Christys are conservative Christian people who heat with wood and homeschooled their son through high school. Shawn Christy is not liberal. He does not hate Sarah Palin; he's a fan — a young fan obsessed and then frustrated because he wanted to make contact with the Palins and be part of their phenomenon.

So this is just another chapter in our nation's sad history of reactionary-hillbilly on reactionary-hillbilly crime. Where is the hillbilly Bill Cosby to explain to everyone that hillbilly wingnuts need to come together to help Sarah Palin make lots of money, not drag each other down with their precious gun violence?

But the hillbillies will never give up their death threats. Perhaps they can forgive threats against Palin. But they certainly cannot forgive this teenager going behind their backs and making threats against NON-SARAH politicians who have actual jobs.

QuoteHe has had lots of opportunities to be arrested. The U.S. Capitol Police launched an investigation because Christy made more than 20 threats against President Barack Obama, more than 40 threats against 2008 Republican presidential candidate John McCain and another 40 against Palin. The Secret Service did its own investigation. Agents have visited Christy's home and spent hours talking to him on more than one occasion.

They did not arrest him. They did not charge him. Neither did the FBI in Anchorage and Allentown, Pa., who also investigated. [...]

No one in the Christy family denies Shawn Christy made more than 100 threats to various public officials. Even his parents aren't sure why he hasn't been arrested.

Death threats against those three? This is just another teenage bully trying to make Joe Biden feel bad.
