20100516 had a strange dream about riding on a new max line
I was going to get off near the columbia slew, only the line had changed to a new route
and did not stop any longer on the corner where i was headed so i just stayed on and
planned to get off on the return trip? eventually (on the new route across the columbia
river the two car unit pulled into vancouver teminal... there was a lay over as the north
bound passengers got off and the south bound ones got on. I moved to a seat nearer
to the north end and watched as the south bound passangers boarded from the rear
NORTH END door. a group of young good looking gals got on and sat across the isle
in a double compartmentt space ONE OF THEM LOOK AT ME for a long time and then
reached out with a a small candy wrapped in shiney paper and sat it on the cussion
in my direction. More passengers got on and the new conductor (who happened to
be some one i know ( A geology proffessor from PSU ) he headed forward twards the
south end of the train and my attentioned returned to the girls acoss the isle
who were now ingaged in frivoloties as soon as the candy offerOR saw me looking
that way ... she lifted the candy c& unwraped it, then in a dramatic sceene popped it ito
here open mouth
the train got under way & my attention was drawn ever more inTENTly to the gals
across the isle: about then the conductors voice came over the lopeaker telling
me to turn my seat around I was seated facing North and did not realize the
back of the seat could be reversed (flopped over si could seat facing South)
So i did... my intertain ment now gone i soon got up and went forward (S)
into the front car and REMained seated there back across the columbia

OBITUARIES
JOHN ELIOT ALLEN was considered one of the "grand old men" of Oregon geology. An expert on the Columbia River Gorge, he worked as a field geologist, and eventually chief geologist, of the Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries in its early years. After leaving the department, Allen held several teaching positions and finally settled at Portland State University where he founded the geology department in 1956. When he retired 18 years later, he embarked on a third career - - writing. Allen wrote a weekly geology column for The Oregonian and co-wrote Hiking Oregon's Geology.
He was a fellow of the Geological Society of America, member of the American Institute of Professional Geologists, former president of the National Association of Geoscience Teachers, and the 1972 recipient of that organization's Neil Miner Award for superior teaching. Dec. 17, 1996.
