Next up, digging up a copy of "At the Mountains of Madness."  Guillermo del Toro apparently is in preproduction, I'm going to have to catch this in the theater.

Wrong tool for the wrong job, guys.  That thing is, I rather suspect, the wrong tool for ANY job.  I'd be willing to bet Richter could go through a rotted wooden pallette like that faster with the beat up old blade I've got hung on my wall.

Article is worded badly.  The students were scammed in that their paperwork was illegal, they were aware they were radio tagged.  Those clunky ankle bracelets aren't something you can exactly sneak on.

The university is blaming two student staffers for scamming the students.  A radio tag seems a lot more humane than just rounding 'em all up and tossing them on the next jet home.  The university has shut down, apparently, meaning this scam has cost a LOT of students a lot of trouble.

I just figure it will eventually cause a serious reduction in my commute time.

This is unfortunately incorrect.  History has shown that people fuck faster than you can shoot them.

You've met my husband, I see.

the audiobook og American Gods by Neil Gaiman

Who's reading it?  (If they got Neil to sit down and read it, I'll have to track down a copy.)

Article on the topic here (on a fairly conservative website).

Frighteningly enough, I'm actually looking forward to seeing the results of the ghost chili experiment.

I gotta get supplies for my first brewing project and get it rolling.

Yeah, I've seen the map.  I'm betting Joss Whedon was just drunk.

MUCH earlier edition.  No perception checks back in the stone age... this would have been either 2nd Edition or maybe back into the days of boxed sets.

Honestly, they really need to run these guys who have been sitting in those seats so long their brains have settled into their asses through a basic civics test before they let them run for re-election.

And that's been interesting and infuriating at the same time...Because the very idea of a subjective universe makes me shit my pance in frothing rage.

The universe is what it is, and it doesn't give a fuck what anyone thinks.  No matter how many "sigils" you "charge" or "servitors" you "make", gravity is still going to do it's thing, as are all the other measurable forces and phenomena in the universe.

I don't hate people who believe in this magick shit (well, any more than I hate all the other monkeys infesting my planet), but it's kind of enraging, watching presumably intelligent people believe in fairy tales.

Nah, I've got no issues with people believing in fairy tales, if it keeps them entertained and reasonably quiet.  It's the ones who feel compelled to make you believe in their fairy tales that give me hives.

Fair enuff.  Just pointing out where it might tweak your players.

Deviating from canon is always fun, but with the wrong players, they'll be so hung up on looking for a human explanation (since there ARE no aliens) that they might miss out.

As soon as you can give me a reasonable explanation as to how conciousness can violate known physical laws, I'll conceed your point.

You seem to be putting much faith into science. As for "known" physical laws, we used to "know" that our planet was flat, and that the sun revolved around the earth.

There's a significant difference I've seen between those who promote science and those who promote "magick."

Those who put their faith in science are always looking for new explanations.  Yep, we used to "know" that our planet is flat, and that the sun revolved around the earth.  Now, we know otherwise, because of science.

Those who put their faith in magick, of whatever flavor (and I include many religions, here), tend to believe either whatever crap their particular holy book tells them is true, or whatever the heck they want to believe, because it's easier than actually exploring the reality they happen to exist in.

Movie night.   :D

Even alien ruins would dent the 'verse for me, I'm afraid.  (And any hardcore Firefly/Serenity fans in the group might have the same twitch.)  That's what made the series DIFFERENT, yeah, space flight...  but just us humans, out there all alone.

Don't get me wrong, the idea of the alien defense system and tech to go kablooey is fun... but more suited to Star Trek than Serenity, IMHO.

Just a flavor preference on my part... but you might want to get a feel for the players.  Some of 'em may have strong feelings on that one.
