I actually think I know where the logic of this is coming from. I don't necessarily agree, but I think I can understand. Protestors = dirty anarchists who hate freedom and love smashing shit. Smashing shit is meant to be propaganda of the deed ie to scare the capitalist masters of the world by an awesome show of People Power, which is therefore an act of political violence which contains the necessary triage of victim, agent and intended audience. THEREFORE terrorism.
The thing is, if you accept this logic, then you also have to accept hate crimes are a form of terrorism, in which case you'd also have to conclude that maybe, just maybe, terrorism isn't always a national security threat that requires massive armies and secret detention facilities, and is not necessarily carried out by Mysterious Arab Agents Who Will Impose Sharia Law On Your Ass.
Or you just could combine the triage theory with Alex Schmidt's concept of terrorism as a peacetime equiavelent of a war crime, in which case the Pentagon needs to be looking closer to home for terrorists.
