I can't tell if this is a real thing or wonderful satire. Probably both:

QuoteThe Bodyguard Blanket, made by ProTecht, is a bulletproof 5/16-inch pad that the company says is made from the same materials used by the U.S. military.
Steve Walker, a podiatrist who conceptualized the blanket, told The Oklahoman that the idea came to him after two tragedies: the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, and the tornadoes in Oklahoma. He said the idea was to "stop that blunt-force trauma when that rubble is falling down on a child."

Reminds me of the good old days of "duck and cover". Obviously any rampaging shooter will give up immediately upon seeing the challenges that these present.

ETA - Seems legit:

Please observe figure 1. Answers on where the bullet entered the blanket on a postcard to the usual address. Winners to be drawn at midnight.

I love how they suspect draping it like an invincibility cloak will protect from blunt force trauma...  It works without girding, like magic. :horrormirth:

That looks more like a mat than a blanket.
Actually it looks kinda like what my son used for nap time in kindergarten.

It as apparently protective against flying/falling rubble. The tornado disaster angle was the other market they are apparently going for.

I do not want to be the man to test this.

Actually looks like it could be pretty useful for protection from falling debris.

Strangely, the videos focus all on the gun angle and not at all on this. I've got a hundred and one work related debris horror stories and if it's at all useful in that regard the guy is going to be fabulously rich. I really doubt it'll provide any real protection once you're dealing with objects with any real weight though.
