We need sugar skulls. And of course, tequila, a liquid we can drink any day of the year. No, we killed the richness that was European Halloween, and then Santa steamrolled over it on his way to April. It got bland, throw some salsa on it. Make it a cartoon to explain why we really celebrate Dia de los muertos instead of the money bonanza that it's becoming. It will be in regular rotation, along with Hallmark commercials and "only 55 shopping days left!" commercials.

Sometimes you have to take what you can get, ya know? Winning that battle was amazing, given the disparate forces. Losing the war doesn't diminish that, because Mexico had no chance at all in that conflict. Or even in that battle, which is why it's still studied to this day.
America's culture is appropriating other cultures for the purpose of selling shit. It's tradition.

So, Im on the fence on all of this since: is it worse to cling to traditions that only bolster primitive-nationalism and state mythology regarding the unity of all mexicans? or is it worse for future generations to be indoctrinated by a Disney movie with anglicized characters?

I'll have to look into that, because yeah, we're called "Mestizo", and I think that not most of the indigenous population was murdered like the USA, but rather there was co-mingling between natives and Spaniards.

You do realise this is viral marketing 101, right? Disney have no interest in copyrighting or trademarking anything other than Mickey's ears which, imo, they're entitled to. They want people outraged that they would consider copyrighting things because if people are outraged they talk about the film. Then it'll come out Disney were never intending to copyright anything and what had in fact happened was that someone in the press department "got the wrong end of the stick" and the film gets another free mention in the press and social media.
Personally I'm all for it - less environmental impact than a poster campaign.
