Back when I was up in the Morenci area, I knew a drunk that couldn't drink...He'd utterly fucked his guts up over the years.  So he did wine enemas.

Now THAT is dedication!

The theory is good, in a way, because the alcohol does hit the bloodstream faster, it's just that, you obviously aren't going to get anywhere near the volume you'd need to get as intoxicated as when you are pouring it down your gullet.  But, doesn't keep kids from trying.

The effect would be quite real, if you could actually get a liquor-soaked wad of cotton up your vagagay or pooper with the OMG BURNING AGONY and also, losing most of the fluid in the act of trying to insert it. What's amazing is that so many perfectly rational adults all across the country bought into the phenomenon, based on zero evidence and zero analysis of the practical applicability. And even after it was thoroughly debunked, a lot of people's reaction is still "Wait, no, it has to be true BECAUSE I HEARD ABOUT IT ON TEEVEE".

Oh, yeah. Plus the aftereffects of horrible infection. That's a delicate environment, you aren't going to get away with putting alcohol in it without paying for it for weeks.

I am 99% convinced that someone came up with the story just to see if they could get people to try it. It's sadistic, to say the least... and that's IF you manage to get the damn thing in. You couldn't use an applicator, because in order to get it to soak up the vodka you have to remove it first.

It's actually kind of hilarious, to think about some poor kid squatting there with a wobbly dripping mass of cotton and vodka dripping down their arm as they attempt to do something with their bottoms that generates the approximate sensation of dripping hot wax onto your eyeball.

The Man has suppressed news of jenkem, for fear of a drug not controlled by narco-warlords or drug CEOs.  Truly, jenkem is a drug open to ALL the people, regardless of race, gender or income.

Rumour has it jenkem kingpins flooded the banks with their drug money, to prevent total economic collapse in 2008.  Truly, they are the unsung heros of our age.  Not to mention control the poop transplant (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fecal_bacteriotherapy) industry.

Oh the humanity.

http://boingboing.net/2013/09/14/phrenology-of-barack-obamas.html

QuoteIn his newest book, The Phrenology of Barack Obama, author Bensa Magos returns to reveal the secrets behind the occulted past of President Barack Obama using the pseudo-science of phrenology. Magos uncovers natural, unnatural, and preternatural features of "Manchurian Candidate" Obama's cranium and brainpan, including the mysterious "head scar" which the mass media refuses to discuss. Causes for the head scar range from CIA brain-implants to a partial lobotomy by his puppet master handlers, as well as the most shocking revelation: that Obama once had a horn. Magos follows a trail of evidence that leads from Obama's brain surgery and dehorning, to government Mind Control programs like MKULTRA and MONARCH with roots in the Nazi Occult, and ultimately to the satanic endgame revealed by the Demon Horn of Moloch.
Given the NSA and IRS scandals, this book is a must read!

"Not My Nigel" is also used when people describe blatantly misogynistic or problematic behaviours their partners are guilty of and then follow it with some kind of "But he doesn't mean anything by it. He's not, like, a sexist or anything. Not my Nigel."

QuoteOkay... today i'm going to give you a recipe you all should try that makes for delicious break food! I feel like Marta fucking Stewart right now!

anywho... take a 8' flour tortia shell that we use for the breakfast burritos. put it in the filet stemmer and press "go"!

Put the stemmed tortia shell on a double cheeseburger wrap. Add on Ranch Sauce, and shredded lettuce, and you can even cut up some tomatoes and put those on there.

take a piece of spicy chicken breast and cut it into small slices and add to the tortia shell. and wrap it up, and enjoy!

Try it and tell me what you think!

I FOUND THE SARDING LINKS THREAD! SARDING A!

http://www.medievalists.net/2013/11/08/by-gods-bones-medieval-swear-words/

"Going into a city you might find a street called 'Shitwell Way' or 'Pissing Alley'. Open a school textbook for teaching children how to read and you might find the words arse, shit or fart. If you saw ants crawling around you would most likely call them 'pisse-mires'. Even some names, like Rogerus Prikeproud or Thomas Turd, seem to have acceptable to medieval men and women."

While for years I thought of the internet as being an amazing invention from which only those lucky enough to be born into the first world could benefit, the day I found this filesharing blog and filled my music library with local African artists totally unknown outside the villages and towns in which they recorded their music finally made me appreciate just how global the internet has made everything for everyone.

If you're looking for new music scenes whose existence you probably never even gave any thought to before, be sure to check this out. You'll not only find new artists but entire new genres in there. The African music scene is just as unexplored by the West as the continent itself was for most of our history. Now, go put on your pith helmet and get exploring!

I suspect this may amuse some of you, can't think of a better place for it:

QuoteNo doubt you will have noticed that Issue has been in the news lately, due to the scandalous behaviour of Public Figure, and the controversial comments of Publicity-Hungry Commentator. The editor of this site and I were discussing the Issue just the other day, and we agreed that making a glib reference to that discussion at the start of this piece would add a sense of authority to my authorial voice, as well as suggesting that the site upon which this piece is being published shares my opinionated stance on this Issue.

I was inspired to write this piece by Currently Fashionable Polemicist, who summarised the Issue better than I could when they said "oversimplification that makes me feel smart". I have a strong opinion on this Issue, and my sharing it with you at this time is in no way attributable to opportunism on my part, due to the Issue's sudden prominence in the news cycle. I haven't exaggerated my position in the interests of raising my public profile, and here I am casually dropping in a reference to a long-ago instance that proves I have cared about the Issue for longer than you.

The whole thing is glorious.

I just love hearing about things like this. I'm pretty pessimistic about the future of the human race but I believe that if there's one thing that will save us, it's the internet, 4chan warts and all. Governments around the world are desperately trying to stop this open flow of information between people around the world but their attempts so far have all failed miserably. They don't understand how things work on here.

The internet has allowed me to reach an advanced level of Japanese despite only occasionally using it in the outside world. It's due to the internet that I've met and befriended really interesting people I would never have bothered speaking to had I passed them in the street. I'm actually friends with an old Japanese man who I initially met when the girl I was talking to went to the bathroom and he saw my face on her computer monitor and just started asking me things, surprised that I could understand him. We now talk regularly about all sorts of things and I really appreciate that he's one of the few Japanese who is willing to talk about certain controversial parts of his nation's history. I've learned so much that I could never have done otherwise. I love the internet and I love meeting people who are different, people you wouldn't expect to be on the internet, such as your African friend who is lucky to have internet access, or an old Japanese man who I met by chance through practicing Japanese with his granddaughter. The internet is a sort of anarchist utopia we can escape to after a hard day's work in real life, for some people more than others.

Also, wow, sorry for being so verbose!

Yep. And same deal if you provide the lonely rat with some friendly rat company.

Turns out that sad, lonely, bored rats are addiction-prone rats; an unhealthy environment makes a mentally unhealthy rat.

Surprise.

Graffiti from Pompeii:

Quote(Bar/Brothel of Innulus and Papilio): Weep, you girls.  My penis has given you up.  Now it penetrates men's behinds.  Goodbye, wondrous femininity!

(House of the Citharist; below a drawing of a man with a large nose): Amplicatus, I know that Icarus is buggering you.  Salvius wrote this.

(House of Pascius Hermes; left of the door): To the one defecating here.  Beware of the curse.  If you look down on this curse, may you have an angry Jupiter for an enemy.

(on the wall in the street): Theophilus, don't perform oral sex on girls against the city wall like a dog

(House of Caecilius Iucundus): Whoever loves, let him flourish.  Let him perish who knows not love.  Let him perish twice over whoever forbids love.

(just outside the Vesuvius gate): Defecator, may everything turn out okay so that you can leave this place

The Abolition Of Work (http://deoxy.org/endwork.htm)
This is as intellectually pretentious as armchair anarchism can get, but it has some good points.

QuoteBut modern work has worse implications. People don't just work, they have "jobs." One person does one productive task all the time on an or-else basis. Even if the task has a quantum of intrinsic interest (as increasingly many jobs don't) the monotony of its obligatory exclusivity drains its ludic potential.

I know someone who works for a company that is working on something similar.  The company has been working on a single pill for over fifteen years, spending hundreds of millions of dollars of private investors' money, and employing hundreds of people around the globe, to the point of developing unique manufacturing facilities for it, without making a profit in all that time.

Hell, a $1,000 pill wouldn't make them break even, let alone a profit.

Yeah, it seems that there is.

QuoteBut Andrew Hill, a researcher in the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics at the University of Liverpool, says $84,000 per cure is too much, based on his estimate of Gilead's cost to produce the drug.

"Even when we were very conservative [with our estimate], the cost of a course of these treatments would be on the order of $150 to $250 per person," Hill says. He questions whether the $84,000 price tag represents "a fair profit."

Hill estimated the cost of producing sofosbuvir by comparing it to similar antiviral drugs used to treat HIV, which cost about a $1 per gram to make.

QuoteGraham thinks Gilead should factor the larger market size into the drugs' price.

She notes that Gilead paid more than $11 billion to acquire a smaller company that developed sofosbuvir. She acknowledges that Gilead should be allowed to recoup that investment.

On the other hand, "you only need about 150,000 people to recover that cost," Graham says. "And so, if you're treating 2 million people, once you have recovered your cost, then I think it's ... I don't want to say it's unfair, but it does start feeling more exploitative."

What's really funny is that I've recently been re-reading Machiavelli's Discourses on Livy, and both it and Aristotle's Politics deal with the issue of elite versus mass opinion in a far more subtle and nuanced manner than this hamfisted attempt at spoonfeeding (probably misunderstood) philosophy to the masses.

From the Most Helpful Customer Review by C. Torok:

QuoteThen came the, uh, flatulence. Heavens to Murgatroyd, the sounds, like trumpets calling the demons back to Hell...the stench, like 1,000 rotten corpses vomited. I couldn't stand to stay in one room for fear of succumbing to my own odors.

But wait; there's more. What came out of me felt like someone tried to funnel Niagara Falls through a coffee straw. I swear my sphincters were screaming. It felt like my delicate starfish was a gaping maw projectile vomiting a torrential flood of toxic waste. 100% liquid. Flammable liquid. NAPALM. It was actually a bit humorous (for a nanosecond)as it was just beyond anything I could imagine possible.

AND IT WENT ON FOR HOURS.

This is like a tiny drug thread.  :lulz:

QuoteRep. Blumenauer continued pressing Botticelli in the House Oversight Committee hearing, asking him whether marijuana is more dangerous and addictive than cocaine or methamphetamine, reports Travis Gettys at The Raw Story.

"I don't think that anyone would dispute the fact that there's relative toxicity related to those drugs," Botticelli said in a classical political non-answer. Understandably, Rep. Blumenauer -- who voted to make Oregon the first state to decriminalize marijuana, back in 1973, when he was a state representative in Salem -- wasn't satisfied.

He asked Botticelli, again, whether cannabis is more dangerous than the other two illegal drugs, both of which are officially Schedule II controlled substances, officially considered safer, by the United States federal government, than the drugs on Schedule I, including marijuana.

"I think the conversation minimizes the harm," an uncomfortable Botticelli replied.

"I'm not trying to minimize the harm," Rep. Blumenauer said. "I just want to know what's more dangerous and addictive. You don't know?"

"As a public health person, one of the things that we look at is not the relative risk of one drug against another," Botticelli claimed.

I am a firm believer in the idea that the inability to give a straight answer means that your argument is rancid shit and you should go reevaluate things.

Of course, these assholes (RWHN, Botticelli, etc) are PAID to tell huge fucking lies for the benefit of CCA and Wackenhutt, so they don't care if they're arguing shite.  Much the same as the NYT now putting e-cig scare stories in their paper, because RJ Reynolds.

Infinite Jukebox (http://labs.echonest.com/Uploader/index.html?trid=TRYCJBJ145C6131E28) this thing is simply wonderful...

Quote from: from the faqWhat is this? - For when your favorite song just isn't long enough. This web app lets you upload a favorite MP3 and will then generate a never-ending and ever changing version of the song. It does what Infinite Gangnam Style did but for any song.
It never stops? - That's right. It will play forever.
How does it work? - We use the Echo Nest analyzer to break the song into beats. We play the song beat by beat, but at every beat there's a chance that we will jump to a different part of song that happens to sound very similar to the current beat. For beat similarity we look at pitch, timbre, loudness, duration and the position of the beat within a bar. There's a nifty visualization that shows all the possible transitions that can occur at any beat.

It amazes me that more people believe that chemtrails are mindcontrol devices than that deodorant is a mindcontrol device.
I mean, if I would use aerosol chemicals to inlfuence people I would put them in deodorant.
Make the technique pay for itsself.

Who the hell uses aerosol deoderant? That's like, from the 70's.
Are we talking about the same thing? About 80% of people i know use spray-can deodorant.

Yeah, nobody uses that here. I mean, you can still get it but in general stick deodorant is far more popular.
Huh. weird. I have seen roll-on deodorant but never stick deodorant. I will have to pay more attention in stores.
I do not like roll-on deodorant because my armpit hair gets stuck in :(
If i find a stick i will use it for comparison. I never really trusted the claims about the newer gasses being completely harmless.

I don't have pit hair (haha) but I have always preferred the sprays. There's also the spray powders, which are especially nice and convenient to teach children (and men) about conservative usage.

One of the many reasons why planning your city for cars instead of people is stupid. (http://www.deseretnews.com/article/705363083/South-Jordan-mom-cited-for-neglect-for-allowing-child-to-walk-to-school.html?pg=all)

This is very true. Of course, many communities in America were never planned at all, but rather grew up piecemeal around farms, which sounds like the case in South Jordan. http://www.sjc.utah.gov/history.asp

I've been listening to these guys. I first caught them during the start of the Tickle Conspiracy and  started again when looking into lobotomy for the umpteenth time.

Solid comedy podcast, good subjects and it's making me laugh quite a lot.

I've not gone through them all but I can say that the Tickling, lobotomy, Tank chase and Purity ball episodes have been pretty great. I've got fairly high hopes for the others. The backstory to the tank chase guy is hilarious/tragic/absolutely insane.

Kickstarter taken to it's logical conclusion:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/324283889/potato-salad

QuoteI'm making potato salad.

Basically I'm just making potato salad. I haven't decided what kind yet.

UPDATE: WE DID IT

Stretch Goals:

$35 - I will make 4x as much Potato Salad. I know $40 isn't 4x $10, but you guys have earned it.

$75 - Pizza Party!

$100 - I will try two different Potato Salad recipes.

UPDATE #2: ALL THE POTATO THAT'S FIT TO PRINT

We made the news. Let's keep up the good work! New stretch goals coming soon!

http://www.cnet.com/news/guys-kickstarter-dream-making-potato-salad-possibly-with-dill/

UPDATE #3: WOW YOU GUYS

We're making a lot of great progress. I think it's time for us to think about getting hats made. I added a new donor level for people who want hats. For those who are interested the hats could look like this: http://www.zazzle.com/i_love_potato_salad_mesh_hat-148005376484063142

Stretch goals:

$250 - Better mayonnaise (from the natural foods section)

$300 - Call a chef to get a better recipe

$350 - Make way more potato salad and probably do a third recipe.

WE MADE THE NEWS!

http://www.abc6onyourside.com/news/features/top-stories/stories/mans-potato-salad-plea-takes-off-kickstarter-33010.shtml

NEW STRETCH GOALS:

$1000: I'll do a live stream of the potato salad making

$1200: I'll pay someone to film a thank-you video for all of my backers!

A BIG STRETCH GOAL:

We're really tearing through these stretch goals. I honestly don't know what is realistic anymore. So, I thought maybe we try to double the current number?

$3000: My kitchen is too small! I will rent out a party hall and invite the whole internet to the potato salad party (only $10 and above will be allowed in the kitchen)! The internet loves potato salad! Let's show them that potato salad loves the internet!!

Original goal - $10.

Current standing - $50K.

Days remaining - 19.

I am in awe.

Free potato salad for the whole internet (with the posibility to travel to the party hall) is not charity?
It's not a very good charity, granted. But it is still charitable.
He should up a soup-kitchen thing but with potato salad instead of soup!
Or, just donate at least 80% to a soupkitchen (and use the rest to make a stupid amount of potato salad).

Basically, he made a joke kickstarter for $10.  He now has $50k that he didn't ask for.

There are literally hundreds of worthy causes that deserve funding, but don't get it, because a lot of people find it funnier to overfund the potato salad kickstarter.  To some foundations and charities, $50k would be a godsend.  In addition, publicly announcing the charity he donates it to would bring awareness to that charity, and maybe interest a few of the thousand or so people who are watching this go down.

Sure, he has every right to keep the money for himself, but I feel it would be selfish to do so; hence, I consider that option to be a dick move.

I suppose it would depend on where he is in life.  To me, $50k would be a godsend to myself, my family, and my friends.  I might actually be a dick but as much as I'd love to help those less fortunate than myself, my first concern is that my mother gets the medical care she needs, my bills and rent get paid so my gf and I can survive, and my friends have something to eat each day.  Beyond that, sure, helping out people worse off than myself is a good use of whatever is left.  It can also be difficult to find a charity that doesn't take excessive cuts for themselves, however.

Isn't taking care of one's self and loved ones kind of the default for most people? I mean, if they guy makes $100k per year and uses the money to buy himself a new car, that's kind of a dick move. But what are the odds of that, realistically speaking? Poor people are funny and creative too. God knows I come up with hundreds of random joke ideas a year. If I got that $50k it would change my life, it could be changing this guy's life, we really just don't know.

The Potato Salad Guy is Zach "Danger" Brown, and he's the co-founder of Base Two, a digital creative marketing firm.

http://www.base2.io/

So I don't think he's desperate for money.

But, as I did some research on the guy, he is organizing a benefit concert, and is using local businesses in order to boost the local economy.

http://upstart.bizjournals.com/entrepreneurs/hot-shots/2014/07/09/kickstarter-potato-salad-guy-has-a-massive.html?page=2

So, current assessment: Not a dick.

Really? I liked it. It was actually pretty relaxing.

But I have to say, the trend of people thinking it's their responsibility to disconnect others from social media is starting to piss me off. There was that one video a few months ago with a guy reading a poem he wrote, and it said we're creating smart phones and dumb people. At least two of the people I saw share it are the ones at parties that keep pulling out their phones.

It's a bunch of you're-doin-it-wrong even though everyone's doing the same fucking thing.

"Colonial Teeth" has moments of pure horrormirth. The tales behind the tank robbery, Hugh Glass and the Rube are wonderful. Other episodes are equally wonderful. "Purity Balls" is great too. Many wonderful little quotes and asides, give it a try.

That was seriously annoying.

I thought the irony of having a quiet place, while still being 'online' was pretty funny.
It almost worked for me but then i got distracted and wandered off, I think i missed a bit.

I liked the music but I left as soon as it started up with the whole 'I bet you're just wondering what status updates you've missed' thing.

Are there really that many people that can't go 5 minutes (or whatever) without checking FB or Twitter?

There was that presumption, wasn't there?  I think i know a couple of folks who are like that but I don't think that's the norm.

I posted this in another thread, but these guys are worth a look.

"Colonial Teeth" has moments of pure horrormirth. The tales behind the tank robbery, Hugh Glass and the Rube are wonderful. Other episodes are equally wonderful. "Purity Balls" is great too. Many wonderful little quotes and asides, give it a try.

I'll add this to my feed, THANKS :)

This struck me as surprisingly relevant to our species:

In a series of four experiments, we examined the relationship between male dominance and female preference in Japanese quail, Coturnix japonica. Female quail that had watched an aggressive interaction between a pair of males preferred the loser of an encounter to its winner. This superficially perverse female preference for losers may be explained by the strong correlation between the success of a male in aggressive interactions with other males and the frequency with which he engages in courtship behaviours that appear potentially injurious to females. By choosing to affiliate with less dominant male quail, female quail may lose direct and indirect benefits that would accrue from pairing with dominant males. However, they also avoid the cost of interacting with potentially harmful, more aggressive males.

Oh hell yeah... that and primate research that shows that females of various primate species will frequently not only take the opportunity to slip away and mate with a preferred low-aggression male while the high-aggression males are fighting over her, but that they will, when being pursued by a big aggressive male they aren't interested in, often lead him past, and flirt with, other aggressive males for the sole purpose of getting him off her back so she can go mate with a less-aggressive male. Probably unsurprisingly, the males that seem to be most preferred are the ones who spend the least time fighting and the most time grooming other primates.

there is a hypothesis amongst cat lovers that the temperament of black kitties, (being generally considered more mellow and less stressed by overcrowding) that goes a bit like this

QuoteBlack and blotched tabby colours are possibly linked to a less assertive temperament, more placid character and better tolerance of crowding than striped tabby or agouti (ticked). If true, this factor would have contributed to a more sociable cat both with humans and with other cats in a colony situation. The predominance of black/black-and-white in urban environments might therefore be linked to this greater sociability. A stressed cat breeds less successfully and passes its genes on fewer times. A stressed mother may miscarry or kill her kittens. A cat which is less stressed in a colony situation will pass its genes on more often. Soon, there will be more of the cats showing a coat colour linked to sociability and less of the cats showing a coat colour linked to unsociability. In the rural environment, a better camouflaged striped cat is likely to be a more successful hunter and will therefore breed more successfully than a less well camouflaged cat. Natoli & DeVito (2001) theorised that orange cats (stereotyped as more highly strung) are uncommon in high-density urban feral colonies compared to "easy-going" black or black-and-white cats. One suggestion is that the more easy-going cats wait their turn to mate with the females: they haven't wasted time and energy fighting and by the time it is their turn, the earlier matings have stimulated the female to ovulate ... just in time to be fertilised by her later suitors' sperm. The actual colours found in these populations would likely depend more on the founder effect.

It probably thinks all nose all the time, assuming it didn't get rid of its brain on the way.

That song doesn't have very many pathways through the song. Try this one

That's Dagoth Ur, the primary antagonist of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. He's kinda an undead god-king thing... Except he isn't, because the metaphysics of the in-game setting are kinda screwy like that. Technically, he isn't undead so much as he's anti-alive. Even that's a sloppy explanation (http://1d4chan.org/images/2/26/Chim_explained.png).
Anyway, he was the player character's bro in a past life and it's the player's job to "kill" him, whatever that even means.

What's complicated about a dead, dreaming God using the Heart of a Trickster-God responsible for the creation of reality to power up a fascimile of the principle of negation in order to overthrow three false gods, one of whom has realised the nature of reality through love, in order to break time and allow him to mantle said dead trickster god in order to defeat and break the Empire, who has a metaphysical bodyguard in the form of Talos, the God-Emperor of Mankind, who is the three-in-one Enantionmorph of Tiber Septim, Zurin Arcturus and Wulfharth.

You forgot the part where Talos himself is probably mantling said trickster god to begin with. At least, if there's anything to the Aldmeri Dominion's plot in Skyrim he is.

Yup.  That's why Dagoth Ur has to mantle him.  Hence why Dagoth Ur is keen on getting the Neverarine to Red Mountain, to replicate the Enantionmorph with the Sharmat, Hortator and Witness.  By mantling Lorkhan, he breaks the Dragon and the Serpent and, in theory, removes the upstart Talos' influence over the world.  Of course, in practice, Talos has achieved CHIM, which kinda screws up all plans of that kind.  Dagoth Ur may have succeeded, since he had achieved a kind of anti-CHIM, if you believe his mad ravings, but the Thalmor certainly wont.

That's the part that got me about Skyrim. I know their plan is to weaken Talos by depriving him of worshipers, but where in the lore is it ever implied that the gods need worship? The Thalmor are pretty quick to jump the gun on their assumptions about reality. Which actually makes a lot of sense, given that they're Nazi analogues.
Title: Re: I don't know where the random links thread is
Post by: Cain on February 19, 2015, 08:28:28 PM
It is mentioned in Gods and Worship.  Aedra, having spent their power in the creation of Mundus, do require worship to maintain influence over events in Mundus.  But Talos isn't an Aedra, probably has CHIM and may even function as a metaphysical Tower.

Which isn't to say it isn't impossible to undo him, only that the current Thalmor effort at banning Talos worship wont do it alone.  It may just be that banning Talos worship is a tactical move designed to divide the Empire, while working on other methods (Eye of Magnus, perhaps the Dragon Cult) to undo him.

Even that's a sloppy explanation (http://1d4chan.org/images/2/26/Chim_explained.png).
Anyway, he was the player character's bro in a past life and it's the player's job to "kill" him, whatever that even means.

Anti-alive in a similar manner to D&D undead?

Nope. That'd be regular undead. Dagoth-Ur is an entirely different thing altogether.
In The Elder Scrolls, when you die you go to a plane called the Dreamsleeve, where you experience whatever afterlife you believed in until you reincarnate. This is also where you go when you sleep, which is why you dream. When you're awake, you're in the material plane, or Mundus. So if you're alive, you can occupy one of two states:
Alive, Awake in Mundus(AlAwMu), or Alive, Dreaming in the Dreamsleeve(AlDrDS)

Now, undead do exist, but the way necromancy works in The Elder Scrolls is that the dead are awakened from their rest in the Dreamsleeve, bringing them back to Mundus in the service of the caster. This means the dead can occupy two possible states:
Dead, Dreaming in the Dreamsleeve(DeDrDS), or Dead, Awake in Mundus(DeAwMu)

Dagoth Ur occupies none of these states. He was killed millennia ago, quite thoroughly, but due to shenanigans involving the heart of a dead trickster god, Dagoth Ur is actually solipsistically dreaming his own presence in Mundus.
As such, he is Dead, Dreaming in Mundus(DeDrMu). This is impossible.

The Heart of Lorkhan: not even once.

Quote from: When Dead Gods Dream"But Dagoth Ur was not at the outside of the Wheel observing the 'I' from there. No, he was at the center looking out; and what would you see if you were at the very center of a wheel and looked toward the rim, something resembling an 'I' extending forever – a false symbolism for the false dreamer, from the center he would have his viewpoint and his "world of reference" for seeing his false symbolism. And what did Dagoth Ur do before his fall, he attempted to create all his servants "in his flesh, and of his flesh" and controlled their minds as one – so perhaps he was molding the world around him to suite his own 'I', making them all 'A whole World of Him'. As the Cultists said "He is All Things", or at least he strove to be."

An interesting end to Morrowind would've been convincing Dagoth Ur he was wrong about being at the centre of the Wheel, because, if I'm not mistaken, he then would've zero-summed.

Possibly a bit esoteric, but it wouldn't have been any worse than, say, convincing Saren to kill himself in Mass Effect 1.  Only with a more convoluted reasoning.

It would have been a nice planescape-style way to finish up rather than "hit win object in telegraphed sequence". Surely there's a mod for it.

Incidentally, I love that it's 2015 and there's a conversation about CHIM. Morrowind was fucking awesome.

Skywind is still being worked on.  I mean, its in Alpha, and probably will be until 2016 at earliest.   But it's still being worked on, and it looks pretty amazing.

The minute that shit is public released, I will be all over it.  There are only two things I don't like about Morrowind: the combat system, and the outdated graphics.  Skywind solves both of those problems.

What I love about Morrowind is that even though the graphics are garbage, you can still tell that what you're looking at is really cool and original. It's the difference between good graphics and good art direction.

Not calling you a douchebag, just saying, those guys are douchebags, and not much of a step up from the guys who thought it was hilarious to pick up random strange girls and try to carry them away and thought it was funny when the girls freaked out. Fun little read about (I guess) the difference between the mind and the body and how that divide relates to those trying to find 'enlightenment' and the difficulties of quantifying such things.

It was entertaining, but ultimately I felt it was pointless.

There is no mind/body divide, the idea that there is is merely an artifact of consciousness, which is an emergent property driven by the complex interactions of our nervous system.

That was well put. I don't have the understanding/vocabulary to really properly discuss such ideas but I find thinking about it fascinating.

I totally agree.

Also, the whole premise of the story (in regard to the factorizations) seems somewhat derivative of "The Subjugation of a Ghost (http://deoxy.org/koan/65)"*, except that this story has a ludicrous but funny ending (and an arguably weaker test), whereas Subjugation of A Ghost has a locical but serious one

WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK CHINA???

QuoteAt the The Next Magazine's request, Ms Liu personally escorted the reporter to a location where a fetus was being prepared. The reporter observed a woman chopping up a male fetus and making soup from the placenta. During the process, the woman even tried to comfort everyone by saying, "Don't be afraid, this is just the flesh of a higher animal."

The boy's remains were cremated in the mountains in accordance with the customs of the region.

In fact, in China, reports about meals made from infant flesh have surfaced from time to time. A video is on the Internet for people to view. In the introduction, the Chinese claim that eating a human fetus is an art form.

I disagree with the idea that it's "too shocking to believe"; The myth's appeal comes from the fact that by the standards of traditional chinese medicine (and the article implies that it is eaten for some dubious medicinal value) it isn't really too far out there, given that the core of tcm seems to be the idea that the more disgusting or obscene something is the greater medicinal value it has when eaten.

Spurious Correlations was a project I put together as a fun way to look at correlations and to think about data. Empirical research is interesting, and I love to wonder about how variables work together. The charts on this site aren't meant to imply causation nor are they meant to create a distrust for research or even correlative data. Rather, I hope this project fosters interest in statistics and numerical research.

I am so glad I don't have to date anymore because this sums it up perfectly: http://www.theonion.com/article/woman-feels-shes-finally-ready-start-receiving-uns-52143

QuoteSAN DIEGO—Explaining that she had needed a few months to herself to "get back to the right emotional place," local woman Laura Berman told reporters Monday she finally felt ready to start receiving completely unsolicited and extremely vulgar messages again. "It was really important to have some time to regroup, but now I think I'm ready to put myself out there again," said Berman, who stated that, after careful consideration, she has decided to open herself back up to a relentless barrage of sexually explicit and unwelcome emails and texts from strangers. "Call me old-fashioned, but I'm glad I waited until I was mentally prepared to start [opening crude and offensive messages from men who I've only spoken to briefly, if at all, that make me feel incredibly uncomfortable, and then after I've politely asked them to stop, being bombarded with obscene insults and sometimes violent threats that make me terrified to even look at my phone]. I think it's time." At press time, Berman reportedly expressed surprise at how easy it was to get back in the swing of things after opening three consecutive messages containing photos of various unknown men's genitals.

-There are no import statements allowed. All code has to be home-grown and Amerian made.
-Instead of "True" and "False," we have "fact" and "lie"
-Only the most popular English words, Drumpf's favorite words, and current politician names can be used as variable names.
-Error messages are mostly quotes directly taken from Drumpf himself.
-All programs must end with "America is great."
-Our language will automatically correct Forbes' $4.5B to $10B
-In it's raw form, TrumpScript is not compatible with Windows, because Drumpf isn't the type of guy to believe in PC
-The language is completely case insensitive

Tangential story time:
So my sister, the one that lived in Tucson for a bit, had this weird allergic reaction to something. Her knees swelled up, she couldn't walk, she was tired all the time, and eventually had to use a wheelchair.  Tested for everything, had a couple rheumatoid arthritis markers, but not enough, also not Lupus.  Decided to go to an allergy specialist.  Did testing found she was allergic to corn.  Big issue, town was in the middle of a cornfield.  Seemed plausible.  However they gave her things like desiccated thyroid of something, ok I get she's tired, boxes of random supplements, and then colloidal silver.  I asked how this was supposed to help, she said something about boosting the immune system.  I said if they think it's an allergy, that's the opposite of what you need happening, and silver does jack shit.

So, she takes this junk for several months, graduates and then moves to Tucson.  All issues faded away.  Tucson apparently cured her.

Sounds like she was seeing a naturopath. They are really pretty much entirely shit for anything but creating their bread and butter, which is chronically ill people.

I might have gone right on thinking that the Charging Bull is a symbol of patriarchy via capitalism if he hadn't so thoughtfully and articulately deconstructed its symbolism by informing us that "the bull had integrity". Which obviously, Fearless Girl not only lacks in herself, but also detracts from Charging Bull, robbing that former symbol of raw unbridled masculine dominance of its own integrity and emasculating it by virtue of her very existence diametric to it, just as women do to the male artists themselves simply by existing.

Damn, he's quite the artist, eh? At first glance I thought it was a giant pug shit, rather than the pug itself. Second and third glance later It's still what I'm seeing. So the bull I always thought was rough as fuck. Proportions off by a fucking mile and legs that bear no resemblance to the animal they're attached to. The little girl on the other hand is pretty fucking tasty. Impressionist for sure but dripping attitude and conveying the emotion clear as a bell, compared to a bull which basically says nothing beyond "I'm mean and if I was a real bull I wouldn't be able to walk cos I don't have any shoulder muscles." Bull might have had "integrity" but it certainly wasn't anatomical.

Agreed, the girl is the best piece of work in the trifecta. She exudes defiance like an unmowable dandelion.

Really, despite its anatomical flaws (looks like Toro the bull from old Looney Tunes!) I quite like the sense of movement, or impending aggression, the bull captures.

The dog, on the other hand, is shite from a shite artist.

I was just poking around being curious about Michigan, and found this fascinating tidbit of American history:
QuoteThe Mormon kingdom on Beaver Island

Although Beaver Island is known mostly today for its beaches, forests, recreational harbor, and seclusion, at one time it was the site of a unique Mormon[1] kingdom.

The island's association with Mormonism began with the death of Joseph Smith, founder of the Latter Day Saint movement. Most Latter Day Saints considered Brigham Young to be Smith's successor, but many others followed James J. Strang. Strang founded the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Strangite), claiming it to be the sole legitimate continuation of the church restored by Joseph Smith. His organization still exists today (though not on Beaver Island), numbering up to 300 adherents.[2] His group initially settled in Voree, Wisconsin, setting up a community there which remains to this day.

Seeking a buffer from persecution, Strang moved his followers to Beaver Island in 1848. The Strangites flourished under Strang's leadership and became a political power in the region. They founded the town of St. James (named after Strang), and built a road called "King's Highway" into the island's interior that remains one of its main thoroughfares. The Strangites cleared land, built cabins, farms, and other improvements, and sought to establish themselves as a permanent presence on Beaver Island.

I recommend reading on, it gets weirder.

It's interesting the way he was caught, but I hear it's a lot more graphic than is needed to tell the story.
So I'm most likely not going to watch, because fuck watching this dickweed kill.

NSFW - AI-generated pornograpy

http://themachinegaze.com/

QuoteAs algorithmic processing becomes more sophisticated and complex, and as more of it is refined and improved upon by the machines themselves, so we lose our ability to fully understand how inputs become outputs and how the 'black box' is 'thinking' - and where might that lead.

What do the machines see when they look at porn? What are we teaching them? What are they learning? And what does it teach us about what we have taught ourselves?

The Machine Gaze is an exhibition which explores the above questions through cutting edge technology, producing a body of work immediately recognisable and yet utterly alien, which provides a timely critique of what we're teaching our machines, and how this might play out.

Utilising a number of machine learning techniques, including Generative Adversarial Networks, neural style transfer and Google 'deep dream', this collection presents machine re-interpretations of our hidden desires.

Featuring computer-generated artworks based on a corpus of pornography spanning printed magazines from the 1980s to user-generated clips uploaded to PornHub, Shardcore has created reframed Philip K Dick's question - except rather than Electric Sheep, these 'androids' dreams are much fleshier in nature.

This is definitely a bad paper (evo psych (ugh) written by an alt-right choad)
but that being said,
that's a kickass title:

Gods Is Associated with High Mutational Load
