Reading this will cause you to become infected with a Meme VirusTM If you want to know what a meme is click HERE (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meme)
Now that you know what a meme is allow us to explain the Meme VirusTM
A Meme VirusTM is an aggressive meme designed to shift your reality paradigm and replace it with a really messed up one that we designed. If you want to know more about Paradigm Shifting click HERE (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paradigm_shift)
We designed this Meme VirusTM because we felt you deserved it.
If you feel you don't deserve it then that's too bad for you. There is no known method for deleting a Meme VirusTM
If you're wondering why we are being so open about this it's because we can. Nothing we can say or do could possibly halt or hinder the progress of the Meme VirusTM We enjoy the irony of warning you about it while you're being infected.
The Meme VirusTM will take anything from a couple of days to a couple of months to shift your paradigm. The more skeptical you are the quicker it will work. Believing in the Meme VirusTM will slow it's progress but eventually your paradigm will be replaced. You will not notice this happening but your friends might.
If a friend or colleage asks you about what's happening to you do not tell them. There is a risk that they will become infected if you do. This is exactly what we want.
Good luck and Have a nice day.
umm...
OK, but what IS the meme your piece of writing is supposed to infect people with? and isn't "meme virus" a redundant term? memes by definition are spread virally.
also, might it not be a better idea to NOT link to wikipedia?
this could be a good piece of writing with just a little more work. please to keep it up.
Meme Virus TM is the meme. How you associate it is entirely subjective.
When one has the Meme Virus TM one may become aware of the process and, thereby able to largely avoid or at least become aware of subliminal meme operation.
Memes cannot be destroyed but they can be displaced.
Memes are holding up the structure of your paradigm.
By displacing these memes your paradigm is displaced.
If you think the Meme Virus TM can be improved feel free to do so and disseminate. The Meme Virus TM is a mutagenic system which is designed to evolve in exactly this way. Published under free license open source. You can even take the credit for it if you get caught.
Good luck and have a nice day
umm...OK.
good idea, but wouldn't it be more effective if there was actually something more to the meme than just "this is a meme"?
maybe I'm missing something, but I just think that subversion of someone's mental paradigm works better if there's some substance to the meme you're trying to insert.
The whole idea should be considered a work in progress. I only just came up with this last night and already edited it down from about two pages of a4 which were trying to outline what the meme actually was but I ended up writing something that people who had absolutely no need of the concept would understand but which wouldn't make much sense to the people who's paradigms it was designed to fuck with. Very occult it was and, I realised, spurious in the context.
The very notion of Meme Virus is to induce a sorta paranoia/skepticism of what the sheep are grazing on, in the sheep themselves. The suggestion of something they aren't going to notice occurring in the near future may cause them to become attentive to the memes they are receiving from all and sundry memetic propaganda. I called it Meme Virus specifically to associate the term virus with the term meme and also to imply that this was something inteded to disrupt memetic operations within paradigm which it sort of is.
One final note - it's not really intended to have any enlightening effect on the users of this forum other than comdey value. It's intended to be disseminated same as any other Meme Virus. Spam the fucker. If you think you can do anything with it or any part of it then be my guest.
So this is more of an Operation MindFuck sort of thing to make the Pinks/Cabbages more aware of what memes they are picking up? If so, I can get with that.
Sorry, its probably obvious from looking, but I'm tired as hell. In fact, I'm off to have a nap. I'll see if I can make sense once I've got a few minutes of shut eye.

That was my idea.
The Meme Virus is only as good as it's propaganda. Mine suck please make better ones.

Okay, stopped right there.
Thanks for the warning.
OK, actually, I like this.
I think the idea of not just spreading memes but metamemes that intend to alert people in a barstool sort of way to the concept that they are being fed memes all day every day. I bet a small handful might even take the next step and get angry over having been force-fed memes all their lives.
It might also prove efficacious to spread actual understanding of real memetics, as opposed to this pseudo-meme meme that 4chan has propagated.

Yep. That's why I write so many sarcastic political rants.

I've tried to be deliberately provocational in the wording to engender this anger. If the meme virus pisses people off it's done it's job. Phase 2 is an FAQ for 'infectees'. If anyone has any ideas to improve it or somewhere to host it let me know. (HIMEOBS ops -How long do you think this would survive on wikipedia?)
Meme Virustm FAQ
Q) What is The Meme Virus
tm?
A) The Meme Virus
tm is a disruptive idea designed to fuck with your paradigm
Q) What is my paradigm?
A) Your paradigm is the way you see the world. Everything you believe from the laws of physics to your favourite colour. Your paradigm is also responisble for your concept of self so who you are and how you see yourself is all defined by your paradigm.
Q) Is The Meme Virus
tm dangerous?
A) Possibly. Since the concept of danger is largely defined by the individual paradigm. One person may define tightrope walking over a large tank of crocodiles as dangerous whilst another person may not. Whether the Meme Virus
tm is dangerous or not depends on your own paradigm and how attached you are to it.
Q) How do I avoid infection?
A) You can't. Simply knowing about the Meme Virus
tm IS infection. As soon as you've heard the name you're pretty much fucked.
Q) What will happen to me now that I'm infected?
A) It's hard to say. Again this is very much paradigm dependent. The Meme Virus
tm is designed to make you more aware of memetic operations going on around you. You are exposed to thousands of memes every day of your life. You may begin to notice more external memes and develop a heightened awareness of how these affect you on a day to day basis. You may also become aware of memes you are already carrying and this will serve to displace those memes within your paradigm. Since your paradigm is, essentially, a structure consisting of memes, displacing these memes will cause the paradigm shift.
Q) Who is responsible for the Meme Virus
tm?
A) Bad people who don't want to get caught.
Q) Why was the Meme Virus
tm written?
A) We had nothing better to do when the idea occurred to us.
Q) Do you have any advice for dealing or coming to terms with my Meme Virus
tm infection?
A) Good luck and Have a nice day.
the east german judge gives this a 9/10.
he'll give you the last point if you link that to the BIP forum.

Gimme a url and I'll drop it in there but it might be funnier if it linked to a fake -self help - Meme Virus sufferers forum first. Lots of posts about how people are coping with the paradigm shift and some links to BIP, HIMEOBS, and all the other anachronisms that Cain won't explain to me, within the postings.
that'd work.
I've no idea how to set up php forums but I've made a yahoo group.
http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/MemePositives/
Feel free to sign up and have a cry about your infection. BIP, HIMEOBS, etc could be introduced by way of detective work, eg. "A friend of mine told me the meme virus had something to do with an organisation called HIMEOBS...." Fill up the links and files section with propaganda. Have fun.
I posted this in here cos of a mixture of I was really stoned and I only really intended it as a one off thing. It wasn't til I read my second post that I started to see where it could be going. Maybe a mod should move it to operation mindfuck like Cain suggested. That's if anyone else is interested in participating. I'm more or less done now, save any random shit my brain tells me in the near future. It's my baby and as far as I'm concerned the little bastard can go out and fend for himself now. If I ever get handed a Meme Virustm flyer or calling card I'll feel smug and proud but bringing him up will seriously fuck with my slacking.
i like this idea. at first i thought "oh yet another .." but then i realized this sort of things haven't actually been done that much :)
there, i made a phpBB forum for you. i have no intention on moderating it though.
so, you get a pm with the admin login.
http://www.attheforum.com/forums/index.php?mforum=memepositives
i suggest you to make some initial posts. a polished version of the OP in this thread, but refer to it as something external, that infected you.
if in any way, try and make the language a bit more serious (not using the work "fuck" so much?), use some 20+ year old idiom (look at the PD for an example), print it out in typewriter font, or write it on a piece of paper, scan it, host it on imageshack, and post it as the thing that got you infected.
i'm quite sure some of the more paranoid tinfoil crazies will totally fall for the general idea. not the target demographic as originally intended (their paradigms are shifty enough as it is), but it might be fun to collect a few of these in a forum.
check the wikipedia page for "meme" has a few external links to sites about existing meme-conspiracies:
http://www.churchofvirus.org/wiki/VirianLexicon
http://www.churchofvirus.org/virus.97/1072.html
probably in and around the deoxy.org fora can be found more. follow the lizard and mantis conspiracy crazies.
also, while thinking of a successfull memevirus, the Game (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Game_(game)) popped to mind. which i consequently lost. maybe we can work that in as well, as something like how the MemeVirus (drop the TM, it makes it unbelievable, who would trademark this thing? unless you wanna tie up some corporate conspiracy into the mix) how the MemeVirus is trying to infiltrate THE CHILDREN at highschools by pretending it's a funny Game, while in fact it is a DANGEROUS form of playing with (evil!!) memetics.
also i agree this thread might be better moved to the O:Mf subforum
Damn you to hell. I'd almost forgotten about this and now you've gone and inspired me to work on it. Work sucks :x
what you need, is an attention span longer than a week.
:)
NOW GET TO IT
Shit, I'd settle for an attention span longer than a millisecond.
Bumped. Just because.
I'd settle for a. . . . . . . . . . . thing. . . . ?
You know, this is not bad. Still needs polishing four years later, but is not bad at all. It totally ties in with that thing Dok wrote earlier!
Yeah, I think there's miles in this, kind of like a pre-programmed viral meme ret-con agent. Preprogrammed, because everyones head is already rattling with dormant memes, and pointing this out in a way that gets the infected person to recognise, will activate all the dormants, and force the new paradigm.
With the added bonus that all the hard work has already been done.
Discordianism. Actively re-cycling yesterday's ideas, into tomorrows nightmares.
