OK, I can't see the pretty diagrams, but again, I bring up that novel by Charles Stross. Although possibly unrealistic, it sounds like a decent idea, I can't describe it, but the book is available for free, so I will go find those parts of it.
For those that can't see the images, mine looked like this:
