I also thought it meant physical storage at first. It is a good idea, but it sounds like hippie bullshit. This isn't to say it can't be useful. Say what you will about what I read, but I think stuff like this was mentioned in "Postmodern Magic". That isn't saying much, though, as most of the book is just a rehash of other people's ideas with little to no new material.

Like I said I think it can be useful, you (or we?) need to develop it so it isn't so irritating. That will get the hippie types, as well as those who dislike such shit. In some sense it is just like the law of fives stuff.

I really like the idea. It's only hippie bullshit if you explain it as such. IMO, rather than explaining it, it would be best to use it in a pamphlet or article, or something. To equate a physical object with a thought, metaphor, or idea. That way it will seem like the idea is recurring in the person's head whenever they see an object. I'm trying to think of an example, but I'm failing miserably. Oh- ok. If you're familiar with Dane Cook, he has a bit where he makes up a song to the tune of a car alarm going off, one of those annoying ones that go from ambulance wail to siren, to a series of screeches, etc. And afterwards he says something like "GREAT! Now, even if you thought that was the stupidest shit you've ever heard, next time you hear a car alarm go off, you're going to think 'Man, that Dane Cook is a silly bitch!' haha."
Kind of illustrates it, in a roundabout way.

information is nothing but the patterns in which media is ordered, pretty much irrelevant what kind of media you use for it, you can create patterns in everything.
certainly, some media are better for storing certain patterns than other media. but in principle you can store any kind of information in any physical object, it's just a matter of efficiency. for example, you'd need a shitload of sticks to store the information from a CD. but it is possible.

hmm.. this appears to put several very real and practical roadblocks to my sticks-hypothesis.
is it still practically possible to store information on some form of media, if the extraction of said information requires you to have an army of monkeys/superhuman powers/a planetary demolition fleet or similar feats of awesome power at your disposal, that would be distracting to such an extent that the information itself becomes irrelevant or at the very least so very much less interesting than before you had an army of monkeys?
Practical? No. The amount of energy/organization/trained monkey technology needed to put 750 Mb of memory into sticks would indicate a better/more effective means of media storage already in place.
Might make a decent art project, though.
