Title: They Dead
Post by: Shit on June 01, 2007, 05:31:13 AM
Street Preacher: "Outside the limit of our sight, feeding off us, perched on top of us, from birth to death, are our owners! Our owners! They have us. They control us! They are our masters! Wake up! They're all about you! All around you!"
~from the movie They Live

Somebody mentioned the movie "They Live" earlier, and it got me thinking about the alien vampire wolves that govern the world fnord.  The movie is about the ebil Lords that you can only see with special glasses granted by a "trustworthy" ally.  Many are the puppets in the CoN society blind to the pure malevolence of their necromantic masters.  Many are the puppets that live to serve.  They live...kinda sorta maybe.  And their Master(s)?  They dead.  Does that mean the SNAFUd CoN is free!?!  No no no no no.  It means they are mastered by the DEAD.  Do you believe in ghosts?  Doesn't matter if you do or don't dagnabit.  They live.  Could be your neighbor down the street, with the seemingly "perfect" church going troop supporting life.  Ever notice something a little strange about perfectly fucked up apocalyptic war mongering "life"?  It's all just a Halloween mask, compared to the true horror underneath it all.  They DEAD.  So stop aqcuiescing to these vampires fnord and let them BE dead!  DEATH TO THEM!  DEATH TO ALL WHO FOLLOW THEM!  Life to those who live it.  THEY DEAD FNORD.

What the fuck's a fnord fnord?

What?

But only for the overuse of the fnord.

Other than that, it's a tolerable treatment of the original.

There were only 3 fnords in the OP.

This is what it looks like without them.

can we get a word filter that replaces the word fnord with the word JESUS?

If you don't see Jesus, he can't eat you.

I prefer cheeses.

Cheese is delicious.

The movie sounds like, well, a cliche of a metaphor. Is well done? My biggest gripe with these types of things tends to be that they feel over done and/or stale. If it's worth it, though, I will check it out.

It's awesomely bad.

If you don't know Rowdy Roddy Piper, he's a professional wrestler.  That should give you some idea.

Also, it has dialogue like, "I came here to chew bubblegum and kick ass.  And I'm all out of bubblegum."

And it has a 15-minute fight scene over whether or not Piper should put on the magic sunglasses.

Get fucked up before watching it.

but that's from Duke Nukem 3D! they got it from there?

also, today i happened to pick up a random "curse of the spawn" comic issue lying around on my flatmate's floor, which also mentioned the phrase (prepended by "like my old friend Duke used to say ..")

synchronicity's in the air

A movie basically designed for me to sit around and pretend like I'm a member of the MST3K cast? 8)

Ye gods! My heart is all a-flutter with delight!

That dialogue is officially for the win. Now I must see this movie.

"MITCHELL"

good. then at least i know i'm looking for the right kind of funny in this series :)

loved the bit where one of the robots imitated the typical funky wahwah guitar bassline :)

did you also see their feature movie "this island earth"? it was also very good, it's got a slightly higher jokes-ratio, cause i think they didn't completely improvise it.

"This Island Earth" was fantastic. I am trying to hunt down a DVD of it for myself.

Other favorites include:
"The Girl In Gold Boots"
"Time Chasers"
"Space Mutiny"
"Parts: The Clonus Horror" (watch that MST3K episode and you will never look at "The Island" the same again...)

I haven't seen "Mitchell" but I'll definitely put it on my list.

Islan earth was a Mike one.

The Joel ones are better by a factor of about 50.

Also:  "Mano, Hands of Fate"

And there was this Hercules one with "saaaaandstooorm..."

"Pod People" is my favorite.  Their treatment of that whole freakout scene when the pod guy makes all the stuff fly around in the kids room was hilarious.

i couldn't find much difference between them myself.

some of them were good, some bad.

and when they're bad you just wasted 60 minutes of your life, which is why i prefer them while stoned. i find it helps.

also, this island earth was very funny, no matter who it was

QuoteAnd there was this Hercules one with "saaaaandstooorm..."

was that with hercules? don't remember

i remember there was one with sandstorm scenes that took ages .. THE SAND THE SAND they already hinted during the first part.

well that was a fun movie :) nice concept, could use some rewriting of half the script, but the main characters were a bit like Big Gay Cowboys with Sunglasses, which was good.
