Title: BEST DAY EVAR!!!
Post by: Sir Squid Diddimus on September 06, 2007, 07:32:51 AM
No. It wasn't.

I had to sign a paper acknowledging the dress code and the fact that I can no longer wear flip flops to work. I know boohoo. But they have a neeet platform and make me taller, and more waterproof in our flooded parking lot.

I got rear ended (again) in the rain on the way to work, so while waiting for the highway patrol... my feet got soaked.

I was an hour late, that I don't get paid for, and we had an incredible amount of work due to scheduling error. All the while I had swamp foot.

Didn't get home till 11:30pm to find that my son totally half assed and botched his math homework so now I get to sit there with him at 7:30 in the morning to make him do it over and do it right.

Glad it's over.
Tomorrow should be better....

right?

That's all. I'm done now. Sorry.

Not unless it was an original condition of employment.

Too late now.

Yep.  Once hired, they cannot force additional terms on you for continued employment.

Comes from non-compete contracts in the 70s and 80s.

YAY! MORE PAGAN DREK!  THE SILLY BINT IS RIPPING OFF THE BEATLES NOW!

"Flower Child"

She was a child of air, a child of water,
Peace in her heart, Natures daughter;
Copper hair and kaleidoscope eyes,
Tripping through the poppies, her head in the sky.
She wore jasmine and love beads and bell-bottom jeans.
She loved Hendrix, Joplin, Tull and Cream...

She was a child of a lost generation,
She marched for peace in a troubled nation.
The Vietnam War was her one passion;
She protested that so-called police action.

Many of her friends went to war and died,
She felt powerless, hopeless and could only cry
For all the young men who went to war
To a far away jungle on a distant shore.

She's older now, but, still the same;
It's still the same war with a different name.
She still believes in love and peace
And prays for the soldiers in the Middle East.

Her life is quiet and slower now,
But, she still remembers how
She tripped through the poppies, her head in the sky
How she looked at the world with kaleidoscope eyes...

lol

i don't even think i ever signed my hiring/employment contract for my last job (nov-feb last year)

i bitched about it a littlebit, told them they should remove certain bits about non-disclosure and indeed one of those non-compete clauses (that i wasn't allowed to work in a similar branche for like a year or so if i'd quit that job--yeah right) which weren't legal ANYWAY even if i did sign it, they can't do that if they hire you on a 0-hour contract blablabla
ah and of course that i wanted my hourly wage IN the contract. because i was the ONLY one working at that place, who even *tried* to negotiate a bit about their wage, because i looked up what i should be earning, but because they were a relatively new startup company, i think i ended up earning slightly more than the local manager lol

i really hate negotiating about that stuff, but really, if you don't they WILL fucking screw you over.

so i got the contract back, two copies, both already signed by the local manager just waiting for my sig (this is of course the important bit), i said i'd look it over at home and give it back when i would have signed it. .. and that's about when i guess they forgot about it.

and then .. then there was the taxes thing :-D because they had written down my netto hourly wage in the contract, i *could have* (but didn't) made a sslight error in my tax-work-form, putting me in the 50% taxes scale, forcing them to pay about double my wage, which would then go half to taxes, yielding me the same wage, screwing them over big time, and allowing me to collect "surplus taxes" (or something) near the end of the year .. (if you get paid a fixed bruto salary, as is the normal case, this little trick will screw over nobody but yourself)
but i didn't do this because i had no grudge with them, the reason i left was my own head (burnout), they made an honest stoopid mistake in their contracts. also they were very nice because for some reason they sent me a big fat summer holiday bonus a few months after i quit working there ..

What's worse is Hendrix is in the same line with Tull.  I think shooting her may be too kind.

Hendrix may have been a prodigious bedder of women, but I think even he would've had 2nd thoughts on sleeping with the author of this....ahem...poetry.

How does that fit into "Employment at-will" ?

The whole, company reserves the right to fire you with or without reason at any time, and you reserve the right to quit with or without reason at any time, thing.

Yes, legally they can't force to to new terms, but they can fire you and not give a reason...

so in theory, they CAN force you to new terms if you want to keep that income rolling in.

I plan on it...                             somehow.

I feel ripped off every time I look at a paycheck.
Just sucks how the cost of living has gone up so much just this year yet the pay rate seems to either stay the same (if you keep the same job) or drop if you change jobs.
The only people I see here making decent money are corrupt politicians and lawyers.

Not everyone works in a state with "Right to Work" (Employment At-Will) statutes.  In some states, you have to sign an agreement for employment outlining how badly you can get fucked by your employers and all the limitations on your right to do something about it.  Basically, two different ways of achieving the same goal.

Until you sue their fat asses for wrongful dismissal.

TGRR,
Knows that tort law doesn't give a fuck about "at will".

that is the correct motorcycle.

if they
1) can't force new terms
2) fire you cause you didnt accept new terms

they violated no.1, right?

and if they are going to fire you completely without any reason, it won't be very useful as a threat to make you accept the new terms. and even then, i guess it'll be obvious to connect the dots, if the employee that suddenly got fired, also /happened/ to be the only one that stood up for his/her rights.
