Apparently, a few months back I bookmarked this post from Play This Thing (indy gaming blog) about a game called Lost in the Static: link (http://playthisthing.com/lost-static)
It's a free download (Windows only as far as I can tell) and plays in less than fifteen minutes. It's basically a platformer where everything is made out of static. Very mind-bending.
I remember years ago my dad told me about this study some people did where a field of static with an area where the static has a different pattern was shown to people, who immediately recognized the "different" field as a distinct Thing. Thinking back now this realization about how our visual brain recognizes things was probably one of the things that prepared me for Discordianism, so to speak.
Just thought I'd share this with all y'all, it's a very nice self-MF and very though-provoking, imho.
I really like this stuff.
I remember when I was younger I would lay on my back and stare at the ceiling. It was one of those bumpy "cottage cheese" style ceilings standard in most apartments, and I would try to see if I could discern any images out of the random bumps.
that's actually pretty cool. (linux users: it works fine in WINE too)
very cool. it did make me nauseous after a while.

rofl, the reason I only bookmarked it at the time was I had no Windows available. Should have tried WINE. :lulz:
Thanks for posting that I never realised I was epileptic until I played this game :argh!:
That static game was a BLAST. Very interesting, very cool. Great idea for a platformer. Thanks for reccommending it.

OMG I stared for HOURS at one of those things
the next morning, when I sobered up, I realized the ceiling was totally flat and featureless. Yeah, just sheetrock. :?

Random building trivia; flat and featureless walls and ceilings are more expensive/desirable because you can cover up sloppy work with sprayed-on texture but in order to achieve featurelesness, seams must be flat and even, and the entire surface must be "skim coated" by hand with a fine plaster mixture, then sponged, then sanded when dry. It's a horrible, horrible job, and people who do it well are paid quite decently.

This is the Correct Pair of Stilts
(I would have said motorcycle, but ceiling work requires stilts)
I can't find the rope in all the static, much less the torches...
How am I supposed to beat the huge walking static guy? :?
Just pass through as he slowly walks and jumps. That part was easy.
