Title: Words.
Post by: NWC on May 03, 2008, 10:32:23 PM
I love them.

In fact, my name, NWC, originated from my initials, N*C, and the W was added by a stranger, who, after having heard me at a poetry reading, officially changed my middle name to Wordsmith.

So I decided to post a bit of poetry, because I like it and it is me. It's often personal, and the best of my work all is inspired by the love of my life, so yeah, there will be some love poetry.

I know! Posting personal poetry on a forum, I'm just asking to be flamed. Go ahead. In fact, I'll join in.
Actually that gives me an idea. I'll start with a poem of mine called Camping, simply because I'm sick of it and need to flame it myself. I do love this poem dearly, but I've heard it to goddamn much. It was written about the first time my raison d'etre told me she loved me.

"Camping"

one day, late may
or one night, I should say
I lay there in dim light
drenched in dismay

sensation travels through my hand
to my brain, the information
haunting me dauntingly
with certainty of cessation

human contact, a basic instinct
distinctly remembered, now penned in ink
recalling words, not yet requited
but conceived, I hope, I think

endorphin rush from lips to lips
engulfs my heart, it melts, it drips
the sweet delight envelopes the night
tickling my fingertips

in her eyes, my reflection
my mind begs softly for verbal connection
inflection in her angelic voice
teasing me pleasingly with whispers of affection

the sun arises, we both awaken
a photo in my memory taken
the words she murmured in my ear
sincere, I am not mistaken

I may or may not post more, based on response.

I love you Marina!

The best response you can expect to posting poetry here is silence.

Otherwise, mockery.

Look at the other poetry threads; you will see.

Don't let it stop you.

This is the first poem I ever wrote, and I still like it.

"Trembling"

'you like trembling?'

no, my first reaction
yet the opposite shines true as well
while showing cowardice
also shows vulnerability
sweet vulnerability

holding and being held
in heavan and in hell
that at some time this must end

can't be still
shaking against my will

her body knows my body
her heart knows my heart
as it beats against her chest

so, to answer the question,
yes, I like trembling

Ok the the first poem I ever wrote was a joke actually, it was for an emo poetry contest. I'm not sure exactly how many entries there were, I think around 100, and I won. It's probably more to the taste of you guys than my love poetry, so I'll post it. It's written from the perspective of a 13 year old girl:

"No one has it worse than me"

As I sit in my corner of darkness
I cry for all of the people
those who spit on me
because I cry in the hallways at school
becuase they spit on me.

The crimson tears set fire to the dry autum leaves
to make my unending pain cease
I am in endless agony
Like glass wedged in my heart

But it's not normal glass
it's name is jarred(my ex-boyfriend)
and it tortures my soul
I feel lost, hurt
shunned from everyone I know

No one can know my pain
as I slink down the dark alley of depression.
Will I ever return?
Will he?

I got mockery hidden behind an alt!!  It was GREAT!

Why rhyme?

I'm sorry, but it is a serious question. Contemporary poets rhyming is something I've never wrapped my head around. Like seinfeld.

Any answer would be sweet.

I like to mess with different styles. Alot of my poetry is free verse, but when I wrote "Camping" I was in a meter/rhyme phase. And out of all the poetry readings and poetry slams I've been to, that is a common favorite, so I read it most often. Personally, I'm a bit sick of it, because I've read it so much, but in the same sense I've mastered the way I speak it perfectly. I can speak it completely drunk(and I often do) and not mess up a syllable.
But generally with my love poetry some rhyming is present, if only internal or slant rhymes.

There's a poem of mine that I really like that utilizes rhyming in a much lesser sense, and I really like the effect it had. It's kind of personal, so I don't really want to post it, but I have been wanting some feedback on that one, so if you(or possibly others who are interested) would like to give it a quick skim(it's not very long) and let me know what you think, I would really appreciate it.

I'll dig through my stuff to see if I can find something that's not ultra-personal that doesn't rhyme that's actually good.

You can toss anything you want at me but when it comes to poetry I'm a very harsh judge.

I say keep up the poetry, rhyme or not it's all up to you. I write all kinds of weird shit. One day I'll have a treasure trove of battered journals to give to my offspring if I ever have any. I am so sure they will think those journals are the living end for at least a month or two... but really keep writing, keep posting and take the criticism as it comes, learn from it or not, but just don't stop.  8)

Was hesitant to post this at first, but I think you spags have proved your mettle. It doesn't have a title.

sometimes I want to hear your voice
caress my ears as it softly appears
sometimes I wish I had a choice
mostly I'm glad I don't

sometimes I want to feel your breath
warm my neck as I lay next to you
sometimes I want to feel your breasts
I am, after all, only a man

sometimes I want to see your face
my mind soars as I imbibe its contours
sometimes I crave your loving embrace
I only know what lonely is because you did hold me

sometimes I want to feel you with every sense
but I'd probably explode if I did all at once
sometimes I feel our love is too immense
but I always know that it isn't

sometimes I hate that you're so far away
though I know that it gives us strength
sometimes I lay in bed all day
thinking about you

sometimes I write pages about you
though my words could never capture
sometimes I think nothing but us is true
at those times I think I'm smart

sometimes I don't believe in god
when we kiss I know she exists
sometimes I wish my mind were not clogged
with all these words and wordless thoughts

but always, I will love you
and always, I will love you
