Title: Rev Roger, Year of the Rat #10: I'm Talking to YOU, Bubba.
Post by: The Good Reverend Roger on June 17, 2008, 05:37:28 AM
Let Me make one thing perfectly clear.

When I talk about people who are too apathetic to give a shit about who runs the country, when I talk about people who can't be bothered to vote, or who are too cynical, too afraid to look insufficiently jaded to bother...I'm talking about you.

And you should know better, shouldn't you?  You are supposed to be the people that still give a damn enough to at least make the effort.  Did you vote in 2004?  Did you vote in this primary?  Are you a biped?  Do you have thumbs for chrissakes?  SHOW ME YOUR FUCKING THUMBS!

If you can't even be bothered to take the 2 hours every 4 years, then you may as well crawl back in the sty with the rest of the piggies, right?

Or were you waiting on someone else to come along and fix things while you pretended to be a radical because you post on a "radical" board?  Well, I have news for you, little piggies...the reason nobody is changing things is that everyone else is doing the same damn thing.  Waiting.

Well, let me tell you something:  The road to hell has an express lane, and it's jammed nut-to-butt with people like that.  Well, we'll CALL them people, even though they don't LOOK like real people or DRESS like real people or have the same FACIAL EXPRESSIONS as real people.

And they believe everything the television tells them.  They believe that terrorists are lurking under their beds, waiting to kill them and make their children GAY.  They believe that the erosions of liberty and abuses of power will only be applied to swarthy foreigners.  They believe in the immaculate conception of (republican) presidents.

And when you point out the obvious, undeniable flaws in the our current idiot boy emperor, they agree, but then they start whimpering about their taxes (because wars don't cost money), and the fact that "there's just something about" the other guy that "they don't trust"...Because, of course, it's safer to allow yourself to be sodomized for sure, each and every day, for years, by a boar-pig than to take a chance with a guy who might sodomize you.

They are, of course, fools...and when the day finally comes that they meet their maker, they will be herded to the left side and sent down the chute with welts all over them and puncture wounds all over their necks and they'll smash into the bottom of the pit where lawyers will hound them and cops will beat them and everyone worries and nobody laughs and it's never lunchtime and Friday is just another day and there's only Miller Lite to drink and there's no parking!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Or Kill Me.

It never, ever, ever takes me that long to vote. It's figuring out what and who to vote FOR that takes up all the time, but usually filling in the little circles and putting the ballot in the envelope and then in the other envelope and finding a stamp only takes like, half an hour at most.

And if I don't think I know enough about an issue to vote on it, I don't.

Ah, here's the cynicism I was talking about.

No, I was totally fucking joking.  If you blissfully ignore the process that decides who runs the nation you live in, everything will be just fine, and you can show all your friends how jaded you are.

If I had friends, I'm sure they'd be impressed by my jade sunglasses.

It just seems to me that whether I blissfully ignore processes or vote in them isn't going to make a difference, at least on the national level.  Campaigning might, as it gets numbers of people to do something, but me voting by myself ... Suppose I'd lived and voted in Guam's primary: the margin might have been 6 or 8 votes instead of 7 - but Hillary still would have won that primary, and Obama is still going to win the nomination.  The state I live in is not nearly so evenly split - it's just pissing in an ocean of voters.

True dat.

I find that for the most part, by the time the ballot comes I've got a pretty good idea of what's going on just from keeping my eyes and ears open and reading the occasional news article, but not always. Also, as some sort of retarded liberal Republican, I often find that I see and agree with BOTH sides of a ballot measure, and when that happens I can't really vote either way.

There is a cover in the PDF file that is designed to be printed in black and white OR color if you can manage it. It's not absolutely necessary, but it does help entice the reader to open the pamphlet by having a cover. (It's supposed to be folded, see)
If you're really hard up for cash and want to get the most for your money, print page 1 on both sides of a single sheet and cut it in half.

It's not our war, it's your war. Allow me to explain - some years ago America annexed the uk in some under the radar takeover bid. Basically, when it comes to foreign policy, we do whatever the king of amerikuh tells us. When the US world domination programme decides it wants iraq, who was the one guy in the fucking world who supported it? That's right - the talking head who 'runs' britain, who had to step off a plane, with a somewhat embarrassed look on his face, mumbling some incoherent garbage about WMD's and proof and shit then walking away before the rest of the universe pelted him with eggs.

Wouldn't matter which stooge I had voted for in the last election, the scenario would have been the same. I'm not allowed to vote in the US elections (the ones that actually affect me) so what's the fucking point.

I already won a war against your country, back in the - "we will treat any use 64bit encryption as an act of war" period of the early 90's.

A bunch of us started adding a 64bit encrypted text file in the game cracks we were distributing which declared war on america, with a closing date for US retaliation. So, technically, your government lost and we own your landmass now.

Still doesn't make me want to vote.

Rog, I understand the premise of voting. And I realize that I may be waiting a long fucking time for the system to implode. Or explode. But I'm sure as hell not in it to be cool.

It's not cool that the system is rigged. It's not cool that the people I would like to see in office, don't want to be there, or aren't fucking photogenic enough to get the monkey's votes. It's sure as hell not cool that a lot of people are more worried about what gender or race the candidate is, than what that canididate stands for.

I just don't see another option yet. Voting for the available candidates seems to just get more and more of the same. Not voting doesn't get me anywhere...it just allows me to say "I didn't vote for them". It's my way of not supporting the system. Maybe it doesn't do jack. But maybe this year, I'll go in and write "none of the above" on the ballot. Probably won't do much, but hey, I voted, right?

It's not our war, it's your war. Allow me to explain - some years ago America annexed the uk in some under the radar takeover bid.

I see.  So those dead British soldiers aren't really dead.

Gotcha.

So if I vote it'll bring them back to life?

Or are you saying if I'd voted for someone else they wouldn't have died?

US foreign policy created iraq, for shits, giggles or massive profit. How is my voting or not voting for which dickhead says 'yes' to america, going to save the world?

I'm done arguing about it, actually.  If you have no interest in who leads you and how, I will save my breath for the people who do.

Of course, voting is not the be all and end all of the political process.

I frequently email my MP, and have created anonymous false identities to email others, to essentially harass them continually.  If politicians just go by how people vote, then of course they will keep on doing the same shit until they're eventually voted out.  Many however become rather panicky when confronted with a number of emails from voters who are upset about a particular vote and often go to great lengths to enter a dialogue with you.  I suspect this is because most people never bother, and so when they get more than a few complaints on any given vote, they start to worry about public opinion.

Plus arguing with politicians (or, rather, their offices) are fun.

Sure.  There's nothing wrong with having fun with the system (or even monkey-wrenching it beyond repair).

Beats apathy.

My senator (one of them, the other refuses to accept emails at all) gave me a lovely form letter when I bitched about the patriot act to him, which commited to nothing while promising everything.  I gave up since then though, and just accepted that Hatch will always and forever vote the opposite of what I want.

Orrin Hatch is the second funniest man in the legislative branch.

I forward his office all of my spam.

Senator James Inhofe (R-OK).  He's a laugh a fucking minute.

Remember when he was "outraged at the outrage" over the Abu Graib thing?

58 million monkeys voted for the last American Idol.

How about political contestant game shows? No more endless campaign circus.

It would run for X weeks and would be open to all applicants. Now to pick the judges. I would prefer three people who would rather kill each other than be in the same room. This will require some thought.

The initial interview will be a 500 word essay on Why I want to be King. This will be judged on content, style and the ability to speak intelligently in public. The judges would be responsible for trimming the list down to 50. After this the people would have to call in their votes for who stays.

One week the topic could be "How I Would Invade........ . One week could be on simple math. One week could be on speech writing.

Well, you get the idea.

:mittens: to the OP.  Apathy is what these fuckers count on, by the way.  They tally up just how many have been lost to it, and they count it as their gain.  The more anti-democracy (because in essence, that's what you become when you don't participate) you become, the better off this Machine(tm) will be.

They never have a "none of the above" option on the ballot. Cuz that's my vote.

Because the lesser of two evils is still evil, and I don't want any more fucking evils.

-waiting for the whole damn system to implode.

Depends on what state you are in, many states have a write in option and you can write in "none of the above" or "Mickey Mouse" or whatever.
