Title: Real life data haven?
Post by: Cain on July 23, 2008, 07:36:46 AM
http://www.havenco.com

From "The Pirate's Dilemma"

The micronation [of Sealand] made international headlines in 2000 when a company called HavenCo struck a deal with the "royal family" to build a heavily armed offshore data sanctuary to house "sensitive" information anonymously, outside the reaches of governments, lawyers, ex-wives, and other prying eyes. Gambling sites, file-sharing networks—really, anyone trying to escape state surveillance or the tax man—were welcome.  The only data HavenCo won't house is anything to do with child porn, spamming, or terrorism.

That's actually a pretty good use for Sealand.  Not much else you can do with it right now.  Why don't we have our own micronation yet?

I love that they group spammers in with child pornographers and terrorists.

a couple of years ago i read some statistics, about 50% of all email traffic is spam, and 90% of all spam is sent by no more than 150 different people.

i don't think it's gotten much better in the mean time.

now child pornographers are in a whole different galaxy of "wrong", but i could definitely picture those 150 ppl that are responsible for 45% of all email being junk being up there with terrorrrists.

No way in hell is 50% of email spam, that number is way too low *goes to find real numbers*

Edit: found this so far http://www.marketwatch.com/news/story/eighty-percent-email-being-sent/story.aspx?guid=%7BF2F677FE-171A-4BFC-A678-C6A623052E19%7D&dist=hppr
