Title: FAO: Anyone from WNY or who knows what "Beef on Weck" is
Post by: navkat on October 29, 2008, 09:53:06 AM
I live in Alabama now.
I used to get Beef on Weck at the Bar-Bill Tavern in East Aurora, NY.
I can NOT live much longer without this stuff...but fucked if I know how to make it, what cuts of meat were used, what spices and how and how LONG to cook that shit.

Anyone have the foggiest?

It's simple roast beef, cut 1/2" thick.  That's not the problem.

There's horseradish smeared on it.  That's not a problem, either.

Your main hurdle?  The Weck.  Or by it's proper name, Kummelweck.  It's damn near impossible to find a kaiser roll with rock salt and caraway seeds anywhere outside of a 50 mile radius of Buffalo.

Your best bet is to offer sexual favors to a board member who lives in the area and can mail you bags of Weck, and hope for the best.

That's an interesting mental picture.

For some reason, I referenced that cartoon of a guy mailing a bobcat through ebay.

Someday, you'll have to relate the story about how you know that fact.
