Hey everyone,
I dont usually make a thread for saying hello when I find a new forum, but for once I feel like I might really be spending some time here. I found out about Discordianism by googling for the book "The Dice man". I guess it took a couple of links from there, but Im really glad the interwebs brought me here.
Im a 21 year old boy (more of a child actually) from the Europa lands (non english speaking country so excuse some of the ensueing grammar rape) on a joyful journey to a life that is worth living. Unsure of whether or not to bore you with personal details I decide to . . . not yet decided . . . wait . . . nah, lets not.
I really love the concept of Discordia, so far I have read most of the Principia, began on the BIP and been browsing the forum a fair amount of time. I must say Im impressed. I really look forward to getting to know all the capillaries of this mess ( sorry).
Im kinda running out of things to say here, which is rare, but I think its good to lay low on all my wicked ideas for the moment and until I know more about the norms and forms of this place.
Maybe we can still get a little discussion out of this, I guess it would be the wrong forum then but oh well, ... Im new here:
To what extent would you describe the character of "The Joker" in Batman: The Dark Knight as of Discordian nature of thought?
(Please resist the temptation of judging me an idiot for asking this question)
Have a good day everyone.
Greetings!
By the way, I wouldn't hold back anything because we all are not normal.
If you have any questions about the BIP/PD, there are many topics and discussions already in threads spouted randomly about the site, mostly in this main topic.
Most of us will be glad to share our opinions or answer any specific questions you might have.
Welcome, have fun, and check out our Discordian Gamerspags thread in Apple Talk!

I really liked The Dice Man as a novel, it probably had a greater effect on me than the PD or Illuminatus! did.
I've never been able to translate anything from the book to here successfully though, except for a weeklong mindfuck where I tried to be someone completely different than my usual self with the result that I became utterly miserable and didn't achieve ANY of the goals that I set out for at the start of the week.
Welcome, spagling.
Welcome, uh... GTA.r? Congratulations on having one of the hardest-to-abbreviate names I've seen.

We talked about that a little while ago (so I don't think you're an idiot  ). My thought is that the Joker represents the most terrifying and dangerous thing a Discordian could ever be. He uses disorder to his advantage, knowing that it frightens people and makes them do stupid things, and he does it for his own amusement.
Of course, he doesn't create disorder and havoc for the purpose of "enlightening" people, which sets him apart from a fair amount of Discordianism. My understanding is that Discordianism tries to get people to understand that order is not always better than disorder, while the Joker just enjoys scaring the shit out of people for yuks.

I dunno if I agree with that assessment, but I have not seen the movie, so will refrain from greater comment.
I think I'm disagreeing with your ideas about Discordianism anyway...

Sorry, forgot to e-prime.
Actually, e-prime isn't enough for making statements about Discordianism. It's pretty much a given that if someone makes a statement about it, someone else will have a justifiable argument against that statement.
butterflies in the stomach? i suggest you read either old comics of batman or maybe the newest issue of mad which has a decent run down of the movie in cartoon form. I think he fits the mold of just because you cant doesnt mean you should, like how batman is forced to break rules to catch him. Comics always have had a progressive type of message to them didnt they.

people have alignments. most lawyers would probally be lawful evil
discordians tend to be neutral of both chaotic and lawful? or not
D&D Alignments-based metaphysics = :cramstipated:

Tervetuloa and hello.
thanks for the welcoming responses!
This morning I was sad and didnt feel well while wandering around in the streets, then I thought of Discordia and had a smile on my face for the next 2 hours. No point here, just saying.

Anywho, welcome, GreenTeal Alpha.roses. No one seems to have mentioned it yet, so I'll tell you: make yourself at home. There's a pool on the Roof. Enjoy.
GTAR is a pretty good abbreviation I think.

I have not come to Discordia and decided its right for me, I have had my very own self built up on thoughts, feelings and experiences and then found people who are quite like me. They have given the sum of things a name and created what we now call Discordia.
The fact that these people (you) are out there is what made me feel good today, not what I have felt and known all along.
And also:
METAL ! ! ! fuck yes!

Uhh, this is supposed to be a picture of Criss Oliva, but something bad happened.
Well okay, at least you got me to confess to my metal addiction. Metal and irony, good stuff.
Anyway, btw my response to the "do I like Discordja or the way it makes me feel" sounds kinda arrogant, didnt mean to put it like that.

You have a self? Damn. I've been making do with just a clump of sticky flotsam adrift on the oceans of primordial chaos. Where can I find a self?

its cold outside isnt it :lulz:
Yes. Yes it is.
Incidentally, it's only as cold as the heat transfer from your body - I suggest reducing your surface area, starting with the head (#1 waster of heat in the body.) Don't stop until your head is to fucking small.
is it just me or are the icons in your sig dropping like flies
I don't see anyone's sig images anymore, I blocked almost all of them. Not the Santa Cupcake, though. Santa Cupcake lives FOREVER.
We can block individual sigs?
GOOD LORD!

Yeah, you have to do it one at a time, and if they replace it with a different image then you have to do it all over again.
Also, the drawback is that if someone posts an image that's hosted wherever they host their sig, say in their Photobucket account, I won't see that either, so I am probably missing out on a few lulz. On the other hand, large sig images really annoy me, so I am happier and less cranky this way, and less likely to hate the people with big annoying sig images. Everybody wins!
You can just turn them all off, you know.

I have to turn them off when I'm at work because there's something weird in ECH's sig that their server doesn't like.
I have them all off because I don't like seeing the same shit over and over again. Also, some people used to have gigantic goddamned sigs (*cough*EVT*cough*) that made for a hell of a lot of scrolling.

You're missing out, Badge, because I'm pretty sure that Nigel's sig encompasses the final and definitive meaning of life. You're losin' out on some great mystical experiences here.

True, but I like some people's sigs . . . just not all of them.
I just saw "Pi" from 1998 because it was on a German Discordian website as recommended viewing material. Weirdest movie ever.
I know everyone sweats up Pi big time, but I just had a really hard time caring about it.

naw, theres far weirder movies,
heres where to start:
naked lunch
eraserhead.
Pi is actually the least interesting Darren Aronofsky film, Requiem for a Dream is an beautifully shot and acted film and has an awesome score by Clint mansell.
And then theres "The Fountain", don't read up on it at all, its a film thats worth watching and the less people say about it the better.
I'm torn Between it and Who's afraid of Virginia Woolf for my favorite film of all time.
I just had a Look at Darren's IMDB and it looks like he is making a new Robocop film, that will be... interesting to see.
yeah, Pi was utter crap.
Requiem for a Dream was one of the most powerful and disturbing movies I've ever seen, though it may have had as much to do with where my life was going when I saw it as it did with the film itself.
I agree that Requiem is a better film, but I don't know about Pi being utter crap...

Its very nicely shot, minimal on the plot, good atmosphere, fairly good cast but still feels like a lot is missing for some reason, maybe because of the sense of panic that instilled in the second half might leave it feeling a bit rushed.
It seems to me, now, like a really good student film.
I'm psyched about Aronofsky's The Wrestler. Apparently Mickey Rourke gives an incredible performance in it.
But nothing compares to my desire to see Slumdog Millionaire. Danny Boyle is awesome.
