I was thinking about the various reasons different people come to this board and the extremely varied topics here... obviously, most people enjoy certain types of threads and projects more than others. Why are you here?
I'm here to have fun. I like the repartee, the funny, the exchange of ideas. I like the argument. I like the bizarre things people share about their thought processes and their lives. I like that it gives me things to think about, to keep my mind sharp and quick, and diversify my thought base. I like watching ideas evolve from sensical to completely nonsensical and then back into something sensical, but completely different from where they started. I like reading about prank ideas and sharing my own prank ideas. I'm not here to create my Discordian legacy, I'm not here to change the political landscape, I'm not here for Deep Important Things, but if something I tap out on my keyboard ends up being worth saving, that's rad.
What are you guys here for?
I'm here to collaborate on creative projects
to be exposed to a wide spectrum of topics and interests
and to expose myself to strangers
most of all I like novelty, and doing something NEW, making something NEW, thinking NEW thoughts.
and I admittedly like riding this Discordian monster bareback and seeing where it's going.
I'm Trolling you...
I'm here to talk with people who have a wide range of interests and are not afraid to discuss certain issues, like some of the people I know IRL.
I'm also here to occasionally participate in collaborations. Oh, and to attention whore.
I'm going to be perfectly honest. If it weren't for certain individuals/personalities I probably would've completely dropped off the map awhile ago. My productivity/creativity here has been sparse for the last few/several months. It's not that I'm not interested in this stuff anymore. For whatever reason, I don't have the same spark I had when the BIP happened. I have little flashes here and there, and I'm hoping this magazine development will help get that going again.
I'm here to chatter like the little squirrel of discord that I am. :lulz:
As to why I started posting here after a couple years of lurking...:

 (also, :fap:)
As for the actual topic, I come here to read and see the works of intelligent, mindful persons, to laugh at clever banter, to relieve the boredom of the workday, to participate in discussions which are far more insightful than anything I could ever have with others in real life, to experience some lulz, and to whore around some of my writing talents, in that order.
This is the best bunch of misfits I've ever met, and I'm glad to be a part of it all.

Because I think it is perfectly OK to be here just to waste time at work, or whatever.
I am here to prove to myself I am not nuts! Stupid Iowans our not unique.

I am not suggesting it isn't OK. In fact it was the perception that it wasn't OK, a couple of years ago, that, in part led to the exodus of some regulars to EB&G. But for me personally, I felt a great sense of awakening and personal satisfaction when the BIP thing happened. I also had a personal investment in it as before there was a BIP sub-forum on pd.com, there was a separate message board just for the BIP which I was the admin of. So I have a personal attachment to that part of the history and so I do feel a little unsatisfied, on a personal level, when I'm in a dry spell. It doesn't have anything to do with anyone else, what they are doing or not doing.
I think on another level, I don't want to be typecast solely as "the pun guy".

I'm here to have fun. I like saying ridiculous stuff, making a lot of bad jokes, and I like it when other people do the same. It's great when people feed off one another's nonsense.
I've had my fill of internet arguing in my day, so if I say some stuff in a thread nobody agrees with and they ream me out, I'll probably respond in a line or two to verify that I saw it and just not bother any longer. Be advised pd.com - this is a strictly non-serious relationship.
Then again I just started in on irc and I like that better, so I might not be here very long.

rev, you know i love reading your puns as much as i love making them myself :) but that's not all you are to me, srsly. even though i don't participate often in those discussions, I love to hear your opinion about the social work you do, the anti-drug-addiction projects, childrens/youth projects, your opionions about what kind of factors make up a stable environment for kids / people to grow (up) in. i admire that. also the stories and pics of your kid growing up :) and your music (which i hardly ever download for which i'm sorry, i should more, but it's those myspace-y websites that make my browser and comp sluggish as fuck...) -- just sayin' :-)
as for why *I* am here:
- interesting discussions with and between
very intelligent people
- an amazing amount of creative vibe, put to work in the type of zany projects I love doing so much
- watching other people troll (i followed the whole TCC debacle like a soap series, it was beautiful)
- fun, jokes, silly and hilarious humor
- helping, providing and facilitating your projects with my computer/programming/http skills (there are now quite a few more computer-knowledgeable spags on this forum, but some time ago i kinda felt i was the only one)
- WOMPing and GIMPing of silly imagery
- interesting links to interesting articles
- discussing Discordia, I learned a lot about morality and ethics from you guys, both from rants/essays but also from drama-cycles.
- dumb people getting pwnd (in moderation)
- getting to know people from another culture (American, in this case)
- keeping up with recent global events (I hardly ever read or watch the news, I get most my info via osmosis)
some of this i could also get at other fora, but not in as high quality, and definitely not all of it.
I consider Discordianism my religion, and I think it's great that my religion allows me to randomly discover new holy books. Initially I was drawn here after reading BIP. Some of y'all's posts fall under that category too.
There seems to be a pretty intelligent crowd here, talking about some informative stuff, some useful stuff, some thought-provoking stuff and some silly stuff. Hells, somewhere in the Recipes subforum someone's probably talking about stuffing stuff.
In addition to be amused, I can also throw things out here and get interesting commentary on them from some varied perspectives.
It's been fairly worthwhile so far.

Okay, several days later, I'd like to revise this answer. The last bit is still true, but I came here and stuck around because I really like the group dynamic and the way this board is run.
I'm here because I couldn't allow you all to be subjected to any more Gay Caribbean Disco forum skins.
And we thank thee, o benevolent dictator.
Damn, you made me think Nigel.... NOT FAIR in the AM :lulz:
Well, my son and I were lurking on MW and spent most of our time reading what was written in the Discordian sub forum there. THEN those idiot facist pig bastards over at MW decided to ban everyone with a brain so we sort of "followed" them to MA, then to EB&G and then here....
I stayed because while there are laughs to be had here, there is also a base group of highly intelligent (though at times a bit eccentric) and exceptionally talented people who's work and ideas I have come to respect a lot. I also got involved in some things and was able to get my kids involved in some of the poster and sticker gasms. We still do cookie gasms too.
One of the things I appreciate of most members here is there is, for the most part, an underlying "live and let it go" factor that is in play here. I know I have made people here mad, and some have done the same for me, BUT.... it stayed in the thread it was pertaining to and I've never felt there were grudges being held against me on a personal level. There are a few (and you know who you are :D) who worry the shit to the bone marrow, but most let shit go. It's the internet afterall....
Also, I'm really old now and this place has become a habit..... :argh!:
EDITED TO ADD...... Ignore the above post, I am here because of Roger's mind rays and that is the only reason I am here..... That is all.....
I am here for laughs, and maybe to exchange ideas with other...post-occultists
:lulz: "post-occult" ... I've never heard that one before.
I'm here from inertia mostly. I got involved here 4 years ago and I guess I have stuck around because people make me feel welcome here. Yeah, it doesn't make much sense if you are new, but alot of these old members are some of the oldest friends I have, on or offline. Secondarily I'm here for the lulz and to learn, and also to teach (to anyone who can stand to listen).
Its probably the whole gang mentality more than anything. Being part of this community gives me family, friends, motivation, and purpose.

It's good to have a circle of friends to fall back on, some kind of constant amidst the disorder ( ) of life.
btw, thanks for not automatically blocking me again on IRC :lulz:
Well yeah. I think many people disregard the people THEY know online as not being friends equal to the ones they know outside the internet, but I see it quite opposite. Its comforting to know that if you are in deep shit somewhere far from home, someone cool is not far away, and that no matter where you go, a friend is not too distant.

I'm a total spag for replying with a RAW quote, but nevertheless:
Celine reared back as if I had waved offal under his nose. "Objectivists?" he pronounced the word as if I had accused him of being a child-molester. "We're anarchists and outlaws, goddam it. Didn't you understand that much? We've got nothing to do with right-wing, left-wing or any other half-assed political category. If you work within the system, you come to one of the either/or choices that were implicit in the system from the beginning. You're talking like a medieval serf, asking the first agnostic whether he worships God or the Devil. We're outside the system's categories. You'll never get the hang of our game if you keep thinking in flat-earth imagery of right and left, good and evil, up and down. If you need a group label for us, we're political non-Euclideans. But even that's not true. Sink me, nobody of this tub agrees with anybody else about anything, except maybe what the fellow with the horns told the old man in the clouds: Non serviam." Robert Anton Wilson and Robert Shea, Illuminatus!
In your defense, it is a pretty cool quote.
