Background:
A buddy of mine were sitting outside of a little caesers, where we were discussing the world as a whole and it's wrongdoings, generally solving all the worlds problems, when the comment was uttered:
We can't do anything. We will all be taken over anyways, and turned into slaves at one point or another.
I'd rather just sit and watch, there's less trouble if you don't get involved.
I stood on a table outside and spouted something like this:
Can you feel it?
The slow degradation of your mind?
Of course you do. You notice everything around you.
You notice how stagnant the earth is around you.
You notice the mind numbing rot on the television
You see the discrimination against the fags and the niggers and the spics.
Then why do you roll over and allow this to happen?
You, genius, all knowing, independant
Vehemently against these horrible wrongings
Yet watch as it all happens around you
Allowing yourself to stand idly by
You don't notice the degradation of your mind.
You don't see the rot of the world, the discrimination.
You are a dry sponge, absorbing everything the media tells you, what your friends and family tell you.
The wetness makes you feel important, it makes you feel like an individual.
WELL YOU ARE NOT.
What will you do now, cabbage, now that someone has spoken against YOU?
Will you wait for a solution to magically float by?
Will you wait for someone to tell you it's okay, and they were in the wrong?
Maybe it will just float past, and you can ignore it, like you have everything else.
DECIDE FOR YOURSELF. FIND A SOLUTION. TAKE A STAND.
Whatever you decide, you will have taken your first step.
Whether you continue walking is also up to you.
Who knows? You might be happier as a mindless shell.
This is the cleaned up version, and by the end there was a small crowd, a few cheers and a few names.
TDM - Still angry, and one friend less.
Nicely done.
We need more like this, galvanizing intelligent folks to action and engagement with life, and not just rotting in apathy.

This, especially.
Pity you're one friend less after that, but you were a good friend to him to dole out the harshness when he hit that level. Hope he seperates cranium and rectum. (protip: if he doesn't, he may not be worth having around.)
heh well done.

It's a classic problem, the Tragedy of the Commons.
Quoth East Coast Hassle, from the Black Iron Prison pamphlet:
QuoteYou cannot effect a large scale change, and if you make a serious attempt you WILL be neutralized. Instead, each and every one of you should make a conscious effort to effect a small reprogramming of the MACHINE(tm) in a manner that affects you and your immediate surroundings. keep the mutation small, and give it a chance to become effectively contagious. If we all effect a change on our own paradigm, there WILL be an eventual overlap, at which point the large scale change which you have hoped to effect all along will be impossible to stop.
The only question that remains is...
Will you talk?
Or will you ACT?
ACT?

ACT?
No dumbas, the answer is TALK but despair ye not, there's a bonus point if you can guess what you're going to talk
about.

Niiiice. Three cheers for a blow well struck against nihilism.

I use this method all the time to score activist tail.

Very nice! I wish I had that innate ability to spout smart things like that.
