I was mortified by HR Pufnstuf at a young age, and was also frightened by two Canadian kids shows, Read All About It and Readalong. It sounds like I was afraid of reading, but that's not the case... both shows were creepy. Read All About It was supposed to be a mystery show for kids, so it was probably intentional in that case, but Readalong was not meant to be frightening, but it was for me anyway. I think it was the puppets... whoever made those puppets was full of evil.
Which kid's shows frightened you when you were young?
Yo Gabba Gabba still frightens me
To continue on the creepy Canadian kid show theme:
Circle Square
The way Mr.Rogers talked scared me so much

Yep. When my parents didn't want to take us to church they just had us watch Circle Square and Jerry Falwell to make up for it.
The Friendly Giant was a little creepy too. Just because he seemed a little too friendly.
I suspect strongly that he was drunk.
i just googled the shows mentioned, memory lane in this thread, i remember the intro to both "read all about it" and "circle square"
but i don't remember the shows so i probably didn't watch them much, the green giant i remembered very well and could quote the words to the intro before they said them, weird because i haven't thought about that show since i was a kid :? i wonder what else is stuck in my brain from so many years ago??.
the one that scared/freaked me out as a kid was the maharishi from the "hilarious house of Frightenstein"

intro to "hilarious house of Frightenstein" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XZKybIIyvG4 with Vincent price
and the most awesome part = "the professor" back when things were not dumbed down for kids http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4wzSKEruj70
Ahhh yes, the Hilarious House of Frightenstein... it was bonechilling... I'm surprised it wasn't the Librarian who frightened you...
Also, The Secret Railroad was a little off.
Not show, movie: The Neverending Story
And why? G'mork:
Didn't scare me, but boy did that one scare the hell out of my little brother. He cried for hours after that one. Then again, he also cried during The Incredibly Journey so he may have been overly emotional.
the changes (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0072484/)
I was about 5 and I can't even remember what the fuck it was about, it just freaked the complete shit out of me.
The Incredible Hulk.
I actually loved the show until it induced an almighty nightmare.
Was it the LSD episode that did it?

No, the episode where some guy decides to 'hunt' the Hulk with a crossbow.
The dream I had following had NOTHING to do with the content of the show, but my parents always blamed the show for that nightmare.

Me too. And he came around to my home town a few years before he died... he came to UWO and did a show... he was really funny and the audience lapped him up with a spoon. You would have thought the Pope had showed up at Sunday Morning Mass.
i stumbled on this romper room, did she almost give the old Nazi salute to the flag pledge of allegiance mentioned in another thread and featured in someones Sig?

Whoa, Mr. Dressup died? When did that happen?
Fuck, 7 days after the towers collapsed. 2001 was even shittier than I'd known. I also didn't know he was an understudy to Mr. Rogers. I also, also didn't know he was born in Lewiston Maine. That's sad, I liked that guy and I watched that show a lot.
He was the person who made me want to draw... he made it look so fucking easy.
he was pretty much my favorite at the time, he also looked like he did on the show when i saw him live and the show was still airing first run episodes so it must have been a long time ago..
i can't remember anything scaring me as a child.
Wizard of Oz.
Old yeller didn't scare me but it did make me cry when the dog got shot. It's like the movie was meant to make a child cry. Fortunately I can't remember if any shows scare me or not, one that does now though is Teletubbies :x. That show is just everything that's wrong with the world.
I was never scared of any of them when I was a kid, but then I got to see all the Stephen King movies and stuff.
All the kids shows scare the shit out of me now, though.
Creepy. As. Fuck.

Seconded.
I can't turn on my tv before about 9am, I just get freaked out and have to spend the rest of the day hiding in my bed.
Boobah. Holy shit that freaked me out.
The one and only time I've ever seen it, I was in bed with food poisoning and couldn't move I was that fucked up with it and some asshole turned the TV on on that channel and left me to it.

EDIT: The music isn't the original TV shows there, but that isn't the disturbing thing anyway.

I learned how to wash my hair in the shower WITH my eyes open because of the water monster on that show...
It would turn into clear liquid and travel through pipes to drown people :scared: :scared:

Dude, Teletubbies wasn't scary, although i understand how it can ruin hallucinogenics for kids in later life.
The Chocky series around 1984-1985, based on the John Wyndham books. That scared te fucking Christ out of me........

Me and my brother used to watch that as kids in our darkened bedrooms with popcorn.
It was fun, but sadly, never felt scared.
There was this show called 'Muddy Grubs' on Australian tv. I can't remember much except this squeeky voiced face on a grey background, and she'd talk to this blue dot who would draw around her until some synth music would start playing...and then some animated jackson pollock shit and maybe some stock footage of kids on tricycles, etc. I used to see the face on my bedroom wall D:
Also Gumby.
:scared:
ok.
gumby was a little scary
in a "why is this so weird" kinda way
The X-Files
I watched it as a child, and it was a show. That counts.
Davy & Goliath
Romper Room.
The woman was permanently whacked out on qualuudes, and at the end of the show, she would look int othe camera, and pretend she was looking through the TV, and watching you.
I saw the second part of "It" as well when I was a kid, brrrr
also my brother was afraid of the cartoon "Dungeons & Dragons", so i couldnt watch that when he was around.

ZOMG this was my worst. At the end she would look into her "magic mirror" and say "I see..... " Then just name random names. She said my name one day and I was scared to death to go NEAR a mirror for weeks.
I remember a few years ago they had a whatever happened to exposure thing and annouced she really was on some freaky shit when she did the show with toddlers mind you. Eh, it was the 70's. A lot of shit was different then.

No, I was that kid feeding them to other kids.
I never grew out of that phase, which is probably why I feed rocks to children in the park nowadays.

If you mean "Romper Room" that used to show in Ulster, in about 1970, I was on that once. That woman, (I think her name was "Miss Helen") Made me cry, because she wouldn't let me play with the crane I wanted to play with, and made me play with some ghey bricks instead. (I'm over it now though).
