It started as an alt-country band, but we soon realized:
1) We don't know how to write alt-country songs.
So, we went more college rock. The band's called Frost Heaves.
Long story short, we've got a gig at the Cantab in Cambridge on June 19.
It will be a better experience than anyone who's tried to sit through an Empties show, and the beer is cold, so if you're south of T.R.O.N.E. and north of the Principality of Kaosuu, stop by.
Sounds fun. I'll see how things settle out for June.
So it will be less Wilco and more REM? Or maybe Frank Black and the Catholics?

Hrmmm, maybe a good time for a Discordian Meetup... I've been wanting to hit the New England side of this great Digital Cabal anyway ;-)

More Heartbreakers/Pixies/Replacements. Tho' we do an Uncle Tupelo song, just for the hell of it.
Gotcha.
Sounds fun! I will probably forget about this between now and then (only three more months!) so reminders = win.
I'm in the same boat. Given the haze I normally live in, a future vision being limited at 2 weeks, my attendence is dependent on this thread being bumped.

This is troof
difference is, Tosk lives in a haze. Richter lives in a fine red mist.

This is fact.
Also, the extreme proximity of the Cantab to my apartment makes me uncomfortable.
But it also makes it extra likely that I will actually be there if this thread is bumped.
ALSO ALSO... Plz play an alt-country song somewhere in the mix. Even if it's awful. :D
We're going to do "Graveyard Shift" by Uncle Tupelo, and "I Will Dare" by the Replacements*. And we're kicking around the idea of doing "Transmission" by Joy Division, just for the hell of it.
Incidentally DC, one of the regular bands at the Cantab are the Sharp Lads. If you like NYC 77-type music (Heartbreakers, Dead Boys, Voidoids, Television, etc) you should check them out. And if you do, heckle the lead singer. He's a friend of mine.
*Not technically Alt-country, but it's got a bit of shuffle & twang.

I can help you with this.
I am currently working on "It's Commode-Hugging Time in the Valley".
Sounds like it needs a dobro.
BUMP, bitches.
$7, four bands, cheap beer, Friday night.
MOTHERFUCKING BUMP.
Depending on when I'm heading out of town on that Saturday I'm there. If I have to leave before 10am, I probably won't make it, but it currently looks like I'll be leaving around noonish. Should be a fun time
I'm actually heading north that weekend too, this should work out nicely!

Vinland Raids is on the Cape...unless you've decided not to go.
...You're saying you'd rather mince about on the Cape with bits of padded PVC pipe, rather than listen to the Glory that is Rock and Fucking Roll?

I'll actually be back in the goddamn city at this point.
If I am allowed to randomly punch people in the audience (that is, liek, so totally punk rawk, right?) I will most likely attend.
Only if you do it whilst dancing.

That can be arranged.
Unfortunately I'm not going to be able to make it - I found out last night we're leaving around 7 AM on Sat rather than the previously anticipated 10 AM due to change in meet-up time with others. I'll make the next show, so have a great time with this one
You suck.
Have a good time, though.
So, seeing as how the universe didn't implode, everyone sucks (except for Pope Tom).
Get this: According to Facebook, DCup decided to stay in on Friday and sew.
sew what?
But seriously, how did the show go?
It was the single most awesome music event to happen in Boston since Charles Michael Kittridge Thompson IV became Black Francis.
Well, maybe not, but it was a prety great show, nonetheless.
Are you planning another one? This way I can make arrangements in advance to not show up.
Sure thing. I'll also make an effort not to post any song demos here, to save y'all the effort of not listening.

Of course. None of us would really want to hear such a thing.
man, I wish I lived closer to all y'all...I'd be there with bells on, LMNO. :(
me too!
yeah man. I'd totally be there if it wasn't a 3+ hour drive. I have been bored stupid in yonkers. I'm running out of parks to picnic at, and that's basically the one thing keeping me sane these days. I would KILL to see a friend play a show. In fact, I would kill for a bar I could go into without getting glared at. Fuck yonkers!

FYI
My street does not require permits for parking, and I have a couch (which has a futon mattress on it, which can be pulled onto the floor to make space for multiple people to sleep) and Eve has like fifteen air mattresses and shit man, I have a LOT of floor space.
If anyone wants to make a trip to Boston, I wouldn't object to some Discordian shenanigans.
Sorry, but I have to "drink wine and sew" that night.

Oh please. Even if I had ended up going, you would not ever show up to any of our meat-ups anyways, and you know it. :p
(I was hell of depressed and spent most of the night moping. I would not have been a good audience member by any stretch and, to be honest, I would've had to catch a bus home before your set. That is what ruined everything.)
You think you can Snub and get away with it... with a Discordian?

Attention span.
Tits, trolling, talking shit... Any one of those could distract you at ANY SECOND.
Ah, but you forget...
MUSIC IS THE BASIS OF EVERYTHING IMPORTANT IN MY LIFE.
Just saying.
And what would've happened if your wife had killed me at your show?
THEN YOU'D NEVER BOOK ANOTHER ONE EVER AGAIN AND YOU WOULD BE SAD AND CRY AND THAT IS SO NOT HARDCORE AND SHIT MAN THEN YOUR LIFE WOULD BE EMPTY AND HOLLOW
:emo:
