Title: Disco Calendar 3176/2010
Post by: the other anonymous on April 06, 2009, 12:08:55 AM
I'm claiming next year's calendar.

There shall be two of them:

1. Seasonal Wall Calendar

The kind you're used to. Letter and A4 variants.

Will need five big and beautiful images of Eris pin-ups, or whatever.

2. Page-a-Day Inspirational Calendar

The kind you're not used to. Each day on a separate page with either an image or a quote or possibly both.

So, I'm gonna need help: 365 pithy or insightful (or, goddess help us, zany) quotes and/or 365 pics, each of which must be at most two-degrees of separation from Discordia.

Deadline is October 31st, or, if I feel like it, today.

-toa,
killing time before time kills me

I'm working out calendar stuff in Google Calender. Hopefully I can render out multiple pdfs in different formats (daily, weekly, monthly pages). I'll keep this thread updated, will focus on 3175/2009 but since Google Calendar is nifty like that I can render out any future year as well.

Well, most accounts confirm he was a mean drunk.

However, as a painter, I think his work is magnificent.  The MFA Boston has one of his paintings, and every time I go, I wind up staring at it for half an hour.

Oh wait, I just cottoned on that this is the page-a-day calendar and not the wall calendar. It's glorious, but I NEED a wall calendar with the holydays and whatnot in it, and I need to be able to spend actual money on it from Lulu or some other print service.

Anyone doing this? I would but I don't know how.

I really think someone should do a "Girls of Discordia" wall calendar with a bunch of chicks dressed as their interpretation of Eris.

I'll see what I can do. I'm a bit reluctant to include non-canonical holydays, since most of them seem to be 1) drug-related (20 Bcy), 2) based on the Gregorian Calendar (Pi Day in March, not Confusion), 3) excuses to harass people (Jake Day), 4) replacements for other religion's holydays, or 5) uninspired attempts at "zaniness".

-toa,
all triangle's eve?

It is important because of completely frivolous reasons, which are that I met this genius artist/freak who is obsessed with circles, and who was disappointed that there is no Discordian holyday, not even one of the non-canonical ones, on his birthday on the calendar that someone here did last year. I don't remember who did that one or I would ask them if they would do it again for 2010. Anyway, his birthday is December 23.

Also, because Circlemas is a holyday that it would actually be easy, family-friendly, and fun to celebrate, and even already has carols and whatnot. See this thread: http://www.principiadiscordia.com/forum/index.php?topic=21853.0

The people who do the Discordian pop-up calendar for Mac say they will add it next time they do an update.

I am in love and he is breaking my heart, and I want to leave a mark on his life that he won't ever forget. It is such a small thing, to help me leave such a mark.

I love the idea of All Triangle's Eve, and it ties in very nicely to something I've heard going around, which is that if triangles could talk, God would be a triangle. I don't really know what that means, but apparently quite a few people do because I keep hearing it.

1) add Day of Discord (may 23rd)! Lots of discordians celebrate it. In fact, I think it may be the only discordian holiday I can think of which people actually celebrate. It's only two years old, so we've gotta get the word out about it!

2) gregorian dates on the calendar would be ultra useful. When I've gotta write a dentist appointment on the calendar, it's a bitch to look up the date conversion.

one thing which may make it more useful would be to make it easier to line up the gregorian with the discordian. easiest way I can think of without further cluttering up the boxes would be to throw a color splash on saturday/sunday so you can quickly tell which days are the weekends.

well we celebrated it in Edinburgh on august 23rd the past couple of years, but also because it's a few days after Syn's birthday.

but then I think Payne was considering moving it to May cause for some reason August was a bad time  (even though with the festival weeks and all it's pretty cool to be there).
