QuoteThe Student asked the Wise Man,
"How can I be Free?"
To which the Wise Man replied,
"Simply recognise,
that your mind is your own,
your world is your own,
and you can do with it what you wish."
So the Student rushed off into his world
and proceeded to do away with all
he felt threatened by.
He tore the helpless flocks of clouds
from the patchwork sky
so he could bask forever
in the glorious rays of hand-sewn sunshine.
He threw all his troubles away,
he mercilessly disposed of the the moral guidance of his peers,
he polluted the rivers of aquired knowledge with petroleum,
he cackled manically as he set ablaze
all that had once defined him.
He had found "freedom" by destroying everything that created him.
"So, what are you now?", asked the Wise Man.
"I'm... uh... fnord.", replied the Student, drooling.
He had destroyed himself.
discuss.
I'll be back later to explain what I think/thought of when I wrote it

i thought id expressed that by putting
your world is your own
@cram, it probably was somewhat inspired by the parable of the gong (at least, i wanted to write something in a similar style), though both warn against blindly following/misinterpreting a teachers words, that wasn't really the point I was trying to make. Or at least, its not what I believe to be the point after I'd had some time to think about what I'd written.

EDIT: I will probs use this piece as part of my BIP "revamp" (though it really is getting less and less like a revamp and more like a new piece of work with every page I do), so any suggestions for a title?
Not a criticism, really. More an identification of where the Student failed.
The microcosm is the macrocosm.
well. The main point I was trying to get across here, was possibly a caution to the jailbreak metaphor, or at least the style of jailbreak, a train of thought sparked by the jailbreak thread.
Basically I was trying to caution against a complete destruction of the bars and walls of your BIP, 'cause there are generally lots of aspects of themselves that people like, even if they may cause you to make some assumptions in certain situations. Its sorta writeen as a cautionary tale, that if you knock down the walls the roof will fall on your head.

Yes, it's better that way.
