I don't know enough about art to really comment, but I find it funny how the more realistically a tree with an unusual shape is drawn, the more fake it seems. I know I've seen actual trees like the 4th tree drawing, but somehow the crazy fractal tree thing still feels more like a real tree. It's like the uncanny valley of sketching, or something.

On the contrary I think the crazy fractal one is a lot closer to real tree growth :D I think I made a bit of a step up back then when I stopped drawing trees based on how a tree looks and just started drawing them based on how they grow.. fractally.
They do grow fractally; I have some crazy pictures somewhere when I was obsessed with taking tree pics.
