PS: You rage, you lose.
Must... control... fist... of death....
you know, 2 of them I wouldnt call someone an intellectual backwater for reading....
but the rest :x
Bible - meh
Gone with the Wind - meh
Lord of the Rings - getting better
Harry Potter - meh
The Stand - probably my favourite book of King's, but not top 10 material at all
Da Vinci Code - oh where to start with this piece of plaigarised crap...
To Kill A Mockingbird - now we're talking
Angels and Demons - :x
Atlas Shrugged - Capitalist Ubermensch Crushes Socialist Lackey Running Dogs! Also large enough to commit suicide with, which some find a blessing
Catcher in the Rye - again, better
:|
:x
To Kill a Mockingbird and the Catcher in the Rye are the only redeeming parts of that list.
(ETA: i unashamedly <3 lotr and hp, but still wouldn't include them in this particular top ten.)
I loved Lord of the Rings when I was a kid.
I wonder if Campus Crusade for Cthulhu is having another book burning rally this month
To Kill a Mockingbird was the only one on there I thought actually fit.

"I'll disagree with what you say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it." - Voltaire
Destroying anyone's writings or point of view, regardless of how bent, wrong, or out of line it is, is a bad thing to do, IMHO.
Even as satire?
I am not seeing the same list at all.
The one I get starts with a Michael Jackson biography.

Unless it's really funny. Which makes it okay.
Well hey, a Malcolm Gladwell book is on the list now. I object to that less violently than that other stuff. However, "Cook Yourself Thin" is also on the current list.

Bible - only on here because of the massive amounts of christians in the world
Gone with the Wind - meh
Lord of the Rings - getting better
Harry Potter - good, but not even close to top 10 quality
The Stand - see above
- removed for stupidity -
To Kill A Mockingbird - personally hated this book, but it deserves a spot close to top 10 for its fame
- removed for stupidity -
Atlas Shrugged - honestly, loved this book, even though it was long as fuck. :| Despite my love for it, not top 10 material.
Catcher in the Rye - better, probably deserves a spot.
I edited with my opinion.
Will post my personal list when I find my keyboard and don't have to use an on screen one.

I agree.
I've thrown away a book because it was so badly written.
Throwing away a book as a way of saying you don't like it or want it taking up your space is one thing. Buring a book strikes me as a way of saying the viewpoints you don't agree with or find harmful should be destroyed, erased from the record, stricken from every obelisk, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera. I'm with Voltaire in the fact that I will disagree plenty with what people say, but I entirely support their right to say it. Maybe there are some that it should happen to.
Books are much like guns though, they are both fundamentally inert until some fool decides to pick them up and make use of them.
It's not my fault. The books were asking for it.

:mullet:
...Well, at least 2/3rds of them were.
No really, I fell down the stair and accidentally into the pile of burning books, I swear Officer!

example: say take our current target audience,
get a bunch of spags to dress up in robes and burn a bunch of copies of principia discordia
(which could just be blank pages with the yellow cover)
what do you think reactions would be?

I tend to agree.

So, censorship ≈ gun control? Interesting...

I would laugh.

does deleting an ebook count?
I just imagined a group of people in a circle frantically deleting thousands of copies of secular books and then yelling things like "TAKE THAT HAWKINGS! BLAST YOU RICHARD DAWKINS! PRAISE GOD!" while onlookers pass by.........
....
Now I really want to do that :lulz:
