Title: Apollo 11
Post by: Iason Ouabache on July 17, 2009, 06:06:49 AM
It's the 40th anniversary of man landing on the moon so NASA is pulling out all of the stops to celebrate. Here are a couple of cools links to enjoy:

http://wechoosethemoon.com/  "Real time" reenactment of the Apollo 11 mission.

http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2009/07/remembering_apollo_11.html  Incredible (and very large) pics from the Apollo mission. I've already saved a couple of them to use as wallpaper.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZ_mTgkGSZk  Some cleaned up footage of the moon landing that NASA just released.

http://www.badastronomy.com/bad/misc/apollohoax.html  Phil Plait's website debunking all of the Moon Landing Hoax nonsense.

I was watching a piece on the Apollo 11 mission on Rachel Maddow and apparently NASA, 3 years ago, admitted that they had lost the tapes with the original footage of the moon landing.  They had been looking for them ever since.  They recently issued a statement concluding that they still hadn't located the tapes, and further, that they had most likely been accidentally erased or taped over.

So the footage they are releasing is actually footage cobbled together from news organizations.

:lulz: You'd think something as important as that would be a national treasure and stored in the National Archives.

Here's a link to a story on NPR about this:  http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=106637066

And I guess it wasn't the entire mission, it was the moonwalk portion.

How could you just loose the most important part!?

Makes me wonder if all these conspiracyspags are right...

It's certainly going to give them some more ammo.  Which I suppose is at least good news for Phil Plaitt.

THERE NEVER WAS ANY MOONLANDING, AND THE ORIGINAL TAPES BEING LOST ARE JUST PROOF OF THAT!

Actually, we did land on the moon. Unfortunately, our cameras didn't work properly due to alien interference. So, once we got back we did all of the video in a studio and have been covering it up for decades.

* Was Neil Armstrong really the first man on the moon?

* Was a second craft going to the moon at the same time as Apollo 11?

* Is lethal radiation prevalent throughout deep space?

* What is wrong with the official account of the Apollo 13 accident?

* Was the live color TV feed from the moon not really live?

* Is it true that the lunar surface camera had no viewfinder?

* How was lighting used in the Apollo photographs if no lighting equipment was taken to the moon?

Thanks to Reagan's "clean desk" policy, we don't even have the plans for the spacecraft itself.

It doesn't matter if it happened, come to think of it, because after we reached the moon, we chickened out and restricted our space program to making sure people can watch re-runs of Leave it to Beaver in Botswana.
