Anyone got any organizations that could use an extra member?

What's the battle plan?
we pick a day. And on that day, we send him TONS of mail
I'm a little bit uneasy pranking a senator
and what's this guy done again? Is he a servant of grayface? I gotta admit to not being too familliar with him
also - he gets mail all the time. alllll the time. I think our target might react better if he's not used to getting letters from strangers.
I think Chick might be a better target. Because we might get him to make a comic about Discordia.

He's practically an avatar of Greyface.
Though I agree Chick might be a better target.

He IS Grayface. How can anyone have not heard of this asshole? He's basically the Senator Sessions of the Democratic Party.

What about making our own Chick comic, signing and dating the little blurb "I _____, promise to discard the new fad of Discordianism and Love Jesus" at the end, and send it in with a letter thanking Chick for saving little Johnny's life and how he's stopped masturbating all the time now. Or something.
You know, kinda like the one I came up with. But not completely shite.
He probably gets a lot of hate/prank-mail. That might be harder to ignore?

ALRIGHTY THEN - HARRY REID!
:ronpaul:
so I'm thinking this might be the best way to carry out Jake day in the age of the internet:
we create a webpage that contains all the info, and then hide it for a week starting the day before the jake.
the page tells people to forward this page to all their Discordian or other miscellaneous prankster friends.
How long do you think we should give it?
we have to strike a balance between
-so long from now that people forget about it, and
-so short that there's no time to communicate it
Three weeks?

I'm perfectly fine with being a pussy.
:sigh:
I'm in for some grunt work. I have rented server (LAMP) I could lend to the cause. Not terribly fast (max 5megabit), but it's real metal so it's fairly stable.
also, postful.com
53c for a postcard
a buck for a letter
and it gets mailed from california. You can mail images, pdfs, whatever. Virtually untraceable.
So, we generate Buzz and then unveil the hidden website, get people twittering about how cool it is that you can send a LOLcat to a senator for a $.75 donation (and a note about an issue, or whatever). We'll need a few people to man the paypal acct and run the orders correctly. Wow, to be an intern in that office.
After a few weeks, we can post buzz and change the person on the front page.
You realize that we'll have to hit Weird Al at some point.
naturally I have no idea who this guy is either, but given that his political career got him to be a politician he probably deserves whatever he gets.
if this is going to be a discordian wide thing, we might possibly use an URL like www.principiadiscordia.com/august23jake (let's use the 23rd, it's 4 days short of 3 weeks, but it coincides with the Day of Discord planning on POEE--even though the Edinburgh meetup is the 22nd cause sunday is a shit day to get crazy in a city, a sunday is a perfectly fine day to write letters though)
cause our domain is well known and catchy?
we could also use principiadiscordia.org (owned by Faust afaik) or disc0rd.com (owned by vex)
on the other hand we could also simply register august23jake.blogspot.com which has the advantage that it's not directly traceable here and, perhaps more important, doesnt require any software to set up, just register the account at blogspot.com and put some shit there.

also - feedback?

- we need a few bullet points about why Reid is a great target. Stuff that will get people all worked up about him.
To avoid his staff googling "Harry Reid" and finding the page, you could obfuscate the name, or provide it upon an image. Also, what about doing using a tinyurl for the anonym.to link?
I'm not too concerned with the results when you google "Harry Reid". (over 3 million hits) Besides, I'll take down the page during the time when they'll be likely to search (day-of-discord until about a week afterwards)
the anonym.to/ prefix on the link already kills the chance of sniffing back via a referral log

I was referring to googling his url, and finding the page in google cache. But as you said, the number of hits for him, combined with the unlikely event that his staff notice a spike on that url (if a noticeable spike even occurred),
and then try to google for a source probably make that risk inconsequential as it's an unlikely sequence of events.
We need to seriously mustache him at every possible opportunity.

Hmm... in IRC last night we were talking about hooker dispersion in cities. Maybe I should write a letter asking that the upcoming census put more effort into providing comprehensive data about US hookers. Total number in major cities, average hooker-per-square-mile information, etc.

Hey, so if I'm going to do some regular old snail-mail, should I send it out a day or two earlier?
I think the idea of JakeDay is that it will all be snailmail, and that we send it on the 23rd.
But I may be mistaken.
maybe the wiki should be edited for clarity.
I'm cool with that. I'm probably just going to send something absolutely ridiculous, unless someone's got another good idea...

W00T this is going pretty well, 189 clicks, and at least 15 mentions (though I'm sure I saw some more come by from complete strangers in my feed)
I also asked DangerousMeme (interesting-link-posting, hip-with-discordianism guy with 20,000 followers) to mention the URL, which he has scheduled to do at the 23rd itself. He wants to use the line "Senator Harry Reid is an Agent of Greyface" which is
slightly out of line with the exposure/non-exposure "rules" mentioned on the BIP Wiki page, but I suppose just doing it at the 23rd makes up for that, and reaching an audience of 20,000 weirdos might give it that last-minute boost right?
BUT in order for this prank to go through most properly, we should have some standard letters on the wiki right? So that people that want to participate but lack inspiration still can make a minimal effort and join. Maybe some Word .DOC files would be good with a few pointers on how to make some quick personalisations (getting a load of identical messages, while funny, is less awesome than getting quirky weird stuff).

Themed/random letter generator in php, outputting .doc templates? I played about with random generators a while back, here's a old one (c)1987 which tries to do national-enquirer style headlines:
Quote
$ ./spew 20
Space Alien, stoned on Angel Dust, Mutilates Forty-Eight Polish Dentists.
Dentist Sees Face Of Batman In a Tangerine.
Student Sees Face Of Yogi Bear In a Watermelon.
"I Chopped My Accountant To Death With a Meat Cleaver" -- Unemployed Chemist.
"I Am The Reincarnation of Queen Victoria", Reveals Madonna.
"Burt Reynolds is the Father Of My Child", Claims Devoted Bee.
Maggie Trudeau Gives birth to Ten Daughters.
-- Joan Rivers Reveals All.
"I spoke to Marilyn Monroe through a Banana" Claims Leopard.
Johnny Carson and Cher Seen Together in Dr. Who's Tardis. "Is It Love?".
Eating Apples Can Give You AIDS, Say American Psychiatrists.
Eating Oranges Can Give You Herpes, Insist Japanese Psychiatrists.
Liz Taylor Tells Of Night Of Terror With Richard Nixon. "He Threatened Me With a Meat Cleaver".
"Does The Tooth Fairy Exist?" Spanish Doctors Offer New Evidence.
"I Am The Reincarnation of George Washington", Insists Ronald Reagan.
"I Am The Reincarnation of Abraham Lincoln", Claims John Davidson.
"Extra-Terrestrials From Mars Gave Me Flu" Insists Princess Diana.
Student's Bizarre Claim: "Soviet AI Experts Planted Mind Control Device In My Head".
Computer Scientists Discover Madonna Was Married to Moses in Previous Life.
"Frank Sinatra Is Addicted to Angel Dust".
-- Exclusive Pictures Inside.
"Elvis Died From Eating Plums", Reveals Jane Fonda.
-- Mexican Physicians Offer Undeniable Proof.
It was quite easy to modify as I recall, and you can make it less weird easily by modifying the categories, although the random generator code seems a bit off here.

True. Is this desirable or undesirable?
I'm probably not creative enough to come up with more than one letter, anyway.
