which books about the kabbalah did you read?
I am through
the power of the kabbalah by Yehuda Berg
this is rather a normal religion book
and started whith
the high kabbalah by Bran O. Hodapp
I just started but it is ... well crazy
which books do you recommand me?
I'm afraid I am unable to provide any meaningful response to this inquiry. Instead, I will offer this advice:
Get dental insurance.
- Observation # 13
i'd recomend whatever books madonna and britney spears have read.
i'm actually reading a book right now called the Essential Kabbalah
it's fucking weird, i think, how similar a lot of aspects
of kabbalism are to Zen and Tao...
here, let me get my book and quote some...
"The Name Of Nothingness"
the depthof primordial being is called Boundless. Because
of it's concealment from all creatures above and below, it is
also called Nothingness. if one asks, 'What is It?" the answer is
"Nothing," meaning: no one can understand anything
about it. It is negated of every conception. no one can knowanything about it- exccept the belief that it exists.
it's existencecannot be grasped by anyone other than it. therefore,
its name is "I am Becoming."
or
"Being and Nothingness"
...Being is in Nothingness in the mode of Nothingness, and
Nothingness is in Being in the Mode of Being. Nothingness is
Being, and Being is Nothingness.
"The Morror of Thought"
Thought is like a mirror. One looking at it sees his own image
inside and thinks that there are two images, but the two images
are really one.
[and one of my favouritepassages from kabbalah...think literal]
"Beyond Knowing"
The inner, subtle essences can be contemplated only by
sucking, not by knowing... (Read my sig)
if that's not Zen like, what is?
here's my favourite passage though
"Creative Arousal"
the world could be created only by virtue of the action of the
righteous, the arousal of those below. so God contemplated
the good deeds of the righteous- yet to be created- and this
act of thinking was enough to actualize the thought. god drew forth
light from within himself and delighted himself with holy people,
like those who would eventually be. This joy engendered undulation,
greater delight. in the bliss of contemplating the righteous, of
imagining holy people, in this fluctuation, the power to create was born.
ahem, rough translation:
god spunked us into exsitence, using the coming martyrs and saints and
other holy men as "arousal" material. we are god's spunk!
Quote from: horabi'd recomend whatever books madonna and britney spears have read.
i'd recomend that madonna and britney spears show up at my house naked.
I'll try this Essential Kabbalah. thanks Saint*Bastard
I also found a lot of things similar to taoism, zen, Rudolf Steiner (he, believing this book, actually consulted the kabbalah for his science)
but what I find weirdest about all, it is all linked with the bible
I just read a book called "Bee Season", which starts off as a somewhat boring little novel about a young girl in a spelling bee and turns into a brilliant story about the Kabbalah. Fascinating. It made me go looking for the works of Abulafia, who wrote some amazing books in the 12th century or thereabouts. But I can't find any of his stuff in English.
Oky doke,
Now bear in mind the quabbala is actually a red herring, in that its fun elaborate correspondences are about as much occult use as learning pure logic (mmm hang on a minute..) but here are some required reading if ya dig.
Dion Fortune - The mystical quabbala
Don Milo Duquette - the chicken kabbala
William G Gray- Qabalistic concepts (ooh look practical things)
Ol Uncle al Crowley - 777
Israel Regardie - "The midle Pillar" and "Garden of Pomegranites" you might also check the complete golden dawn if solar centric mason-love floats ya boat.
Anyhoos have fun, if gematria an that be considered thus.
Kaballah?
Ooh...bad memories from my early occult days.
i also recall something about a book called "the Dark Kabbala" from avon
i think it was...possibly the Black Kabbala...iono
you might find it at http://loompanics.com , where i originally saw it.
(the same place i bought my copy of the principia)
The dark kabbala... that'd be them ther qlippoths...
and their what now?
Gotta watch out for them ther qlippoths...
PS: Qlippoths are failed creations of God, Malaul.
Intellectual black holes, so to speak.
like lillith, or that thing God created from one of adam's vertibrae (i think
it was his vertibrae...correct me if i'm mistaken) before lillith...she
was supposedly massively deformed and ugly (hey, even God makes
mistakes...wait a second!!! :?: )
Ack! Ack!

i read "the royal road" by hoeller which is a kabballic interpretation of the major arcana of the tarot.. bella and other card readers may enjoy this one.
i also read the essential kabballah, and another called 'a caballah primer'..
caballah primer was cool.. it talked a lot about mathemathics. about the golden triangle, as well as a lot of things that would belong in the "linguistics" forum.

Yeah, I really might enjoy that book, thanks for the head's up.
I'm gonna order it.
if i recall correctly it was put out by the gnostic society in LA with the consultation of the golden dawn and the oto. they discuss the symbology in the images in the card, as well as how it fits in with the tree of life.. each card represents a transition (path) between 2 sepiroth (sp)..
that made sense to me.. each sepiroth (keter, binah, chokmah, etc) is like a static thing.. a way station.. but people don't live with both their feet on the ground. people live in motion, and that's the transition from one place to another.. the wheel.. the rota.
and since the kaballah is (i think) a description of life that makes sense.. and i think that's why the traditionals say that one should study the torah for 40 years and already become established in life before studying the kaballah.. cause one has to travel from malkuth, chose a path (right/left/middle/mixture) and then they will be able to easier understand the trinity of keter, binah and chokmah..
but i dunno.... i am but an egg
kim
You may be an egg, but what you just said made sense.
The tarot is set up in much the same way, with the cards representing the Fool's journey through life. It's all about transition and motion. The Major Arcana represent spiritual and material benchmarks, while the Minor Arcana represent the people and everyday activities in our lives. So I can see how the two systems would mesh well. Thanks again for telling me about this book.
no problem, glad that you're into it..
hey where is a good place to get a crowlean deck?
i'd like to learn to read the book, but for some reason i'm not interested in learning on a ryder-waite deck.. is this just snobbish? i dunno.. i just go with my instincts sometimes even if they don't make sense.

No, it's not snobbish to prefer one deck to another.
It's actually important to find a deck that you're drawn to and learn on that one.
Right now I'm using a still obscure deck called the Phantasmagoric Theatre Tarot.
Here's a link to US Games, the people who print most, if not all of the tarot decks in the US: http://www.usgamesinc.com/
why thank you
One day I will buy myself this deck:

Have any of you visited the kabbalah website of late?
I found it to be full of trickery, replacing the word "believing" with the word "knowing" and then a flash card trick which made me log off immediately.
But my mind is open to the notion behind it, I just get cranky when they use smoke and mirrors to recruit people...
Which kabbalah website is that? Provide a link please.
Or a patty if you don't have any links.
