Okay, just made this up today.
Start out by sauteeing minced onion and garlic in olive oil (you'll need a good sized pot.
add in a spoonful of cumin.
cut up some chicken breast and sautee that with the above and a little bit of Nam Pla. NOT TOO MUCH. Don't worry about the smell, it'll go away.
Add in 2 spoonfuls of tomato paste, can of whole peeled tomatoes, can of corn, can of chillies and tomatoes, cubed carrot and green pepper. Fill up with water (you'll want a bit more for what comes next).
Add in a cup of dry lentils.
Stir that all together with a pinch of sage, thyme, basil, oregano and a bay leaf. Also, cayenne pepper and coriander. Also also, salt and pepper (freshly ground of course) to taste.
Let it all sit and simmer for 45 min to an hour. Add more water for preferred thiness/thickness. Eat.
This soup has honestly awesome flavor. Was an experiment. Got the idea from all the lentil soups I've been making recently, and a chilli I make in the cold season. Sorta combined the two.
It sounds delicious!

Yes. Just as good the next day too.
Just got home and realized that I couldn't make Tahdeeg, since my potatoes had been left too long....
So I made this up quick instead!
1 can chilli beans
1 1/2 cups brown rice
3 large dollups plain yogurt
chilli powder
cayenne pepper
cumin
ground chilli peppers
pinch of tumeric
Salt/Pepper
Cook the rice in twice the amount water till tenderish
cook the beans in a pot till warm then add the yogurt. Mix well.
add the rice when tender.
Add the spices to taste.
The rice turns out al dente and the whole dish is spicy and slightly sour from the yogurt. I like it. The spicier the better.
Next time I'll sautee some onions in the pot before dumping the beans in.
Update: even better a couple day's later. The spiciness is still there, but the sour is a more subtle.
Add some ground beef to that and it sounds like a really good chili.

Dude, I can make chilli 50 times better than that.
It's just not a summer food.
