Title: HORRORMIRTH CONTEST: The Voting Thread
Post by: LMNO on October 02, 2009, 05:01:14 PM
Ok, y'all, here we go.

Each person gets 10 votes.  Choose the ones you like.  Voting will stay open for 14 days.

Winners will get something, and then we'll see if we can get another pamphlet out of this.

Lets' see what we have for entries:

Triple Zero posted an old one,
http://img212.imageshack.us/img212/4993/rogerrogerbig.jpg .

Next up is TGRR's Napalm Cannister...
http://www.principiadiscordia.com/forum/index.php?topic=22064.msg749394#msg749394

And then his Canning Harry:
http://www.principiadiscordia.com/forum/index.php?topic=22064.msg749496#msg749496

Payne gave us the laughing and screaming clown-shitting sisters.
http://www.principiadiscordia.com/forum/index.php?topic=22064.msg749929#msg749929

Roger countered with Obama/Polio.
http://www.principiadiscordia.com/forum/index.php?topic=22064.msg750045#msg750045

...aaaand Obama/Spiders.
http://www.principiadiscordia.com/forum/index.php?topic=22064.msg750052#msg750052

Broken AI made a collage of some sort...
http://www.principiadiscordia.com/forum/index.php?topic=22064.msg750220#msg750220

So Roger gave us his own version of Laughing and Screaming.
http://www.principiadiscordia.com/forum/index.php?topic=22064.msg750452#msg750452

Enrico gave us our first essay, "Birthday Wishes"
http://www.principiadiscordia.com/forum/index.php?topic=22064.msg751078#msg751078

Not to be out done, Roger posted his "Monkey Sandwich" piece.
http://www.principiadiscordia.com/forum/index.php?topic=22064.msg752766#msg752766

Rong had a nice ROFLbot pic about those who wait.
http://www.principiadiscordia.com/forum/index.php?topic=22064.msg753425#msg753425

Cain posted a rant about marketing.
http://www.principiadiscordia.com/forum/index.php?topic=22260.0

Pixie told a story about a man who married 1.5 women.
http://www.principiadiscordia.com/forum/index.php?topic=22269.0

LMNO posted a piece about Horrormirth itself.
http://www.principiadiscordia.com/forum/index.php?topic=22064.msg755734#msg755734

I Kicked Kennedy upped the ante by posting his own weird porn.
http://www.principiadiscordia.com/forum/index.php?topic=22294.0

A chapter from the Chao te Ching was offered up.
http://www.principiadiscordia.com/forum/index.php?topic=22064.msg757058#msg757058

Fictionpuss... well, I think it's an entry.
http://www.principiadiscordia.com/forum/index.php?topic=22064.msg759446#msg759446

Kai wrote "Wishywashy Minds"

Bump, because apparently voting by itself doesn't send the thread to the top.

I'll sticky it for the duration of the vote, and for 48 hours afterward.

but I could only vote once, or does that count as 10?
You could select up to 10 entries, and hit the "Vote" button once. Hence 10 votes, or 6 votes, if you only selected six entries, etc.

I could modify the poll to "allow users to change their vote", if they made a mistake? I mean, it's not like people are gonna abuse it by continuously changing it back and forth (and even then, why bother)

My first and best piece was left out.

ETA:  Also, I just figured out that the best way to do well in these things is to produce the least amount of contributions, possible, so never mind.

I, too, also only voted once instead of tence. Your "Afghan" style election process confused me. Doesn't really matter though, it was a well thought out vote.

Also, how the fuck is my "confessions" in 2nd? It's not even properly horrormirth (unless I've been doing horromirth wrong all along).

Because it was funny, but also horrific because many people actually go through vast portions of their lives thinking that way?

Yes. It's almost (but not quite) like you Nadered yourself.

I can give you one of the wenches and a hat full of gold if you want, but the sword is mine.

It's precisely what I did.  I wasn't aware that there would be multiple ballots, or I would have restricted myself to one entry.  Not pissed or anything.  I'm only mildly upset, and only because the evil old man pic didn't make it in, and that was my favorite (I would have liked to see how it stacked up against my other stuff).

And I'll get my own wenches.  Those East Coast women are a frail bunch, and would not survive the High Desert Yeti mating rituals.

Hold on, you guys.  Payne might have gotten 11 votes, but TGRR got 41 total votes.

I'm going to have to speak with the judges about this.

Yes, LMNO, but the votes were on pieces, not on the authors.

Well, I will restate that I don't particularly think that the original post in Confessions is Horrormirth (though it is possible that the ensuing conversation, which ended up over like three threads may have been).

And, secret ballot or not, I used the one vote I thought I had to vote for the Napalm Canister pic, because that was perfect.

You know, you could always do what Hitler did: take advantage of momentarily high public opinion to get yourself into position as Chancellor of Horrormirth and seize total control. I could be your von Papen.

I wouldn't.  I think the best way to do this in the future is to count the person's total votes (encourages more work), but that isn't how we set it up this time.

I played by the rules, and none of my pieces gained the most votes.  By the rules, I lost, and I'm fine with that.  Really.

What I want is for these things to be FUN, and to get people involved.  That means a bunch more to me than winning any particular contest.
