QuoteIt turns out that surfing the Internet is actually good for you! A new study released by UCLA indicates that cognitive functions improve, even for seniors, after a little as a single week of surfing the Internet, giving credence to the old adage, "Use it or lose it."
Amanda Gardner writes on Health Day News:
"You can teach an old brain new technology tricks," said Dr. Gary Small, a psychiatry professor at the Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior at the University of California, Los Angeles, and the author of iBrain. With people who had little Internet experience, "we found that after just a week of practice, there was a much greater extent of activity particularly in the areas of the brain that make decisions, the thinking brain -- which makes sense because, when you're searching online, you're making a lot of decisions," he said. "It's interactive."

I just found some complementary research - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/8339647.stm (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/8339647.stm)
QuoteIn a bad mood? Don't worry - according to research, it's good for you.
An Australian psychology expert who has been studying emotions has found being grumpy makes us think more clearly. In contrast to those annoying happy types, miserable people are better at decision-making and less gullible, his experiments showed.
While cheerfulness fosters creativity, gloominess breeds attentiveness and careful thinking, Professor Joe Forgas told Australian Science Magazine.

I wondering if he's confusing cause and effect. I think it's more likely to be the other way around.

When you think about it, those guys have been responsible for probably the majority of circle jerks post-1994.
If I ever met one of those guys, I would look them in the eye and say,
"Several. Exabytes... Of free fetish pornography. Think about it."
FELIX! HEEEEEY!
Hey Burns. I could watch your avatar for hours.
Well, a full minute actually, but it felt like a long time.
I suggest that, as an annoying meme, that the term 'surfing', in the context of the intarwebs, be replaced with 'smurfing' the intarwebs.
It should be introduced gradually by slipping it in to conversation only when it would normally be used, and with enough subtlety that the person you are talking to would not ask if there was a surreptitious 'm' slipped in there unless you use it several times in a row, or over the course several conversations that it could be used in. Even after it becomes obvious that they are listening for it, and are calling you on it, it should be denied....
