Title: Going cross-eyed
Post by: The Johnny on November 16, 2009, 12:01:32 AM

i think from so much time spent reading books, being on the internets, and spending most of my time in rooms that are 6 x 3 mts or 8 x 8 mts im actually going cross eyed a bit (anything beyond 8 meters away seems not so clear)...

What should i do, and does anyone have had this happen to them?

It may just be natural. I used to always have 20/20 vision until two years ago when my vision crapped out on me.
I think it's just genetic, rather than environmental, because when I was a kid everyone in my family but me had poor eyesight. Now that I'm a bit older genetics have caught up with me.

The best thing would be to go see an optometrist.

Nasturtiums is right--go see an optometrist and get an opthamologist referral.  They can dilate your eyes and see what-all's going down near the retina.

My son has what's commonly known as "lazy eye," and we patched him for years so his weaker eye got stronger.  It saved him from surgery.

There are simple eye exercises you can do (near, far, following the path of something up and down, with a really hard focus on the object, melding two objects together, etc) for minutes at a time each day that can strengthen your eye muscles and pull them back to where they belong, if you know the right ones.  My son now sees and ocular therapist who works on him to keep his amblyopia(sp?) under control.

i think i'm just barely cross-eyed - although looking out instead of in.  when i was about 7 or 8 i started getting terrible headaches, after all kinds of doctor visits, it occured to the doctor to ask my parents if my eyes had been checked.  turns out i was near sighted in my right eye and far sighted in my left eye.  i am now near sighted in both eyes, but my right is a lot worse than my left.

the bonus (?) is that it doesn't take very much to drink and i get double vision.

Last time i went to ophtanmologist was about 3 months ago... ive had laser eye surgery and my prescription dropped from 8 and 7 down to .8 and .5 (that was done about 4 years ago)... i had some problems with the pollution and an infection and now im fine...

I asked if my prescription was rising again, and they said it was not, just my eyes tend to be drier...

In other words, i think it has something to do with my eye-focus "status quo" being on a shorter range than "normal"

I guess i should try out "eye exersices" and going out in the open more often.

Hm, the laser surgery changes things a bit.  I'd see about some post-op therapy for sure, then.

Spend more time in bigger places without screens and books.
Take more walks in the woods.
