So a guy saw someone riding a bike with their kid and decided to try and blow his brains out.

The judge decides that the guy can't be all bad, so he suspends most of the sentence and sentences him to 4 months...
Fuck.
Sounds like a case of the Mondays!
Justice system fail.
:x
"I ATTEMPT TO SHOOT PARENTS AND THEIR CHILDREN UNPROVOKED BUT I'M REALLY A NICE GUY!"
"Okay, we'll go easy on you then."
:crankey:

It was so inane I had to laugh. I'm glad the kid is okay, though.
Mistress Freeky -
Could really care less about cyclists as long as the kiddies don't get hurt.

Um...
I don't get this:
"Diez was apparently incensed by Alan Simons carrying his 3-year-old child on a seat mounted on the back of his bike."
how else are you gonna carry your kid on your bike?
and what's up with the hostility towards people on bikes anyway?
If they are on their bikes, that means they aren't using gas, and must therefore hate AmericaTM.
Some cyclists are complete dicks and don't know how to handle a bike properly, endangering themselves and others on the road.
These same cyclists give people who do ride bikes but aren't reckless idiots a bad name.

Tour de Tucson. It is a dreaded day when, once a year, all of Tucson has to avoid driving at all costs, lest you run across the path of these bicyclists, because they SHUT DOWN every road to one lane, if there is more than one lane, on the course for the whole day. The race crosses the whole city, mind, and is 40 miles across.
once a year my city gets shut down because of a 4 mile run, but you don't see us hating on pedestrians.
additionally, numerous other public events or holidays tie down the city sometimes
but then again, since the 70s the inner heart of my city is car-free, except busses and taxis. you can still go there by car, but you'll get caught in a maze of small one-way street and pedestrians walking all over the place thinking "why do you need to be here with a car, anyway", and bikes, and no one will give you right of way, ever, cause you're most certainly someone from out of town not knowing how to get around in my city [park the car in an underground lot and use the city-buses which are cheap--esp compared to parking prices--and ubiquitous]
for instance my girl cannot go to her job by car (due to no affordable parking space) and has to bike 1.9mi, which takes about 15 minutes, as her job and our house are on opposite sides of the heart of the city so she has to cross right through.
it's good for getting the recommended minimum of 30 minutes activity though.
however, she complains there's too much bikes in the city now, driving careless and dangerously. I guess I'm more used to this, it's the perpetual flux of college students, they are always new, often careless and believe they own the world. But because it's always the same demographic flowing through the same 4-5 years, oh so predictable :) [even in the way they bike]
Obviously 2/3rds of cyclists deserve it.
