We're going to win the group and you're going to get stuck playing Germany in the elimination round.
:lulz:
It truly is the most wonderful time of year....the time I get to remind England fans that their team is never, ever going to win the World Cup again.
I remember how good it felt in '66, fuck you all kiddies . . .

I'd mention how solid the Aussie team looks this year, but if the US wins their group and Australia takes 2nd in theirs (no way they're beating Germany), we'll end up facing each other in the first elimination match.
Hey RCH, is there a good online site which gives a US view of soccer esp the World Cup . .
ESPN.com has a pretty good World Cup page, aside form the fact that the guy they paid to prognosticate the outcome of group play picked Slovenia to finish ahead of the US in our group. He's not an American, though, so he must be excused for his genetic unwillingness to accept the fact that the US has a pretty good team.

Yeah, they are consistently underrated as a team, but unless Germany has a really off night, I cant see that match turning out as anything but a a defeat.
Oh well. At least I hold no illusions about Australian victory, unlike England supporters and their team.

. . . yeah, its like every four years the whole country gets afflicted by the same ridiculous delusion. Its sad but it kind of make me laugh . . . a lot. There's nothing quite as bust-a-gut-laughable as the triumph of hope over expectation.

i certainly wont argue against that
my entire yearly salary couldn't get me to South Africa to watch a WC game.
Unless I stowed away in a cargo container and slept in a bush in some Jo'burg shantytown.
:(
RCH,
envious
you should get yourself into the government nuclear cleanup bizness
even during recessions they dont want to cut their nuclear waste removal payments
That'd be the second thing I'd cut in a recession. After the military's pay.
Cain,
suicidal government at work.

one of my best friends did that for years out at Hanford.
he's had to have several "benign" tumors removed and has been told not to have any more children as the odds of them being horribly deformed are somewhere around 50%.
It's too bad, because he had offered to get me hired on several times (he started at around 50K a year and was making closer to 80K when he quit) and I was seriously starting to think about it when all that went down. And right now, if someone offered me 50K a year or more to clean up nuclear waste I'd be on it like stink on shit.
